Now I know everyones up in arms about Nick delaying the next Avatar event for the 15th, but this week a very special movie is going to grace the nick airwaves...
Ferris Buellers day off, a movie I consider to be the greatest movie ever made.
Of course I know how you youngins are, you are into movies with high tech special effects and new age stars.
But Ferris Buellers day off is a real culturally significant film, as it was really the first true teenage film (in fact it was one of the first films to recieve a PG- 13 rating)
Sure there were other films for teens but most of them were toned down to get a PG rating (in fact PG 13 was introduced in about 1984)
Before FBDO teen films were very limited, and a teenage market practically did not exist.
But FBDO paved the way for other teenage films that are very important to the teenage market, without FBDO films like What's eating Gilbert Grape and Dont tell mom the babysitters dead would not be around.
The philosophy of the film is very good even for todays audience, Ferris is pretty much a hero for people who are tired of the hum drum of highschool.
But what makes Ferris himself so appealing to me is that he has a very good philosophy about life:
Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.
You can never go too far
Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in The Beatles, I just believe in me."
Of course th movie is a bit dated by now with its lingo (its very easy to tell its an 80's film) but I love this movie to pieces because of its free sprited philosophy
