Well attonbitus, I'll have to disagree with you on this. While I agree that corporal punishment should make a comeback for certain circumstances, this isn't one of them. If you allowed the teachers that type of power, you would more than likely end up having some that enjoy it a bit too much, also, small children could become scarred for the rest of their lives simply because then they would learn to cower and cringe before any authority figure, which is a very bad thing in my opinion. Noone would ever have any individuality what so ever if they were all to scared to show the slightest bit of uniqueness. As for older children, such as teens, they would rebel against that type of behavior more than anything, thus making them more prone to violent outbursts. As for what you said about small children being unruly, that fault lies in the parenting of said child. I have two boys, ages 9 & 11, and they have always been very well behaved. Don't get me wrong, they're not complete angels, but isn't that simply part of being a child after all?

I don't think I cud be a teacher I think I'd end up in prison....

^The issue here is not so much about teaching kids discipline but moreso tolerance towards different races and beliefs and whether or not kids today are getting positive messages at home.

I agree with you Countess Rachel, that's one of my main points. Parents today seem to be a lot more spineless than when I was growing up. As for myself, I've raised my kids from day 1 to be respectful and tolerant of others no matter what race/religion/sex someone else might be. The thing I don't quite understand is that why is it so hard for a lot of people to simply be respectful of others. It's these same people who would whine and cry if they felt like they were being discriminated against, so why then can't they understand what they are doing and simply do unto others as they'd have done to themselves? That has always boggled my mind! I mean c'mon people, we are all of the same species, so what if we have different colored skin or speak differently or believe different things, that individuality is what makes life interesting! (at least that's the way I feel) I think most parents today need to wake up to what they are turning their kids into!

It really depends for me. I go to a school where a good population of students are Christian or were raised that way. I was raised Christian, but over the past year I've doubted it and I'm now more or less agnostic(look it up, it's not the same as atheism) And I know if they tried to teach about respecting other's religions at least one kid would raise their hand and make some biased response. Though it would be nice to have a class to debate religion(I love debating religion with someone trying to shove information down my throat)
On the subject of sex ed, I'm an 8th grader, and we just finished our health unit on sex, I support that they teach it, but, most kids know about sex by the time they are in 8th grade enless they are very sheltered. But still, information on STDs, AIDS, contraception, and teen pregnancy should be taught since some parents may not even know that much on the subject.
