See I was okay with Zutara. I didn't particularly like it, but I was okay with it and didn't loathe it or think the show would be ruined if it happened. I think what made it NOT okay for me is what makes it okay for some and that was the season finale. In CoD, Zuko and Katara have that talk. They learn something about each other. Katara begins to see him as something other than her enemy and the face of her pain. She tells him about the loss of her mother and they learn they have something in common, the Fire Nation took away someone they care about. She lets down her guard, reveals her vulnerability, and allows herself to open up to someone she originally thought was just nothing more than bad. However, in the scenes to follow Zuko completely betrays that. He is not the one to shoot lightning at Aang, but he does nothing to help Katara. He fights her. He fights Aang and is instrumental in helping his sister nearly take Aang's life. He becomes IMO what Katara had originally considered him to be: The face of the enemy and a representative of the nation that has caused her pain and taken much from her. She had already lost her mother to the fire nation and in the season finale she nearly loses Aang (which no matter how you see their relationship, she does love and care for Aang immensely) and could have lost her own life to Azula and Zuko. IMO, that is unforgivable. The knowledge gained in that scene in the crystal cave between Zuko and Katara was special and allowed them to come together on the same level. But to have him hurt her again in a way she has already been hurt is tragic because they could have at least been friends or kept that understanding. Now I am not sure they even have that. Aang and Katara also share that profound sense of loss and IMO is one thing that does unite them. And after the season finale, I think Katara will be less trusting, I think she will treasure Aang more, and I think Zuko's betrayal of her confidence will have a lasting impact. Taang I just never got into. Aang's always this wimp that Toph needs to toughen up and I think that's wrong. Aang is plenty tough and has stood up for himself without her. Also Toph is some macho thing. Sensitivity in her has been brought out by Katara and Iroh. Sokka is just fun to ship with everyone so there is not one ship for him that I like over another. Maiko is okay because I happen to like Mai and I'm interested in seeing what would happen with her and Zuko just because there have been those few instances where a crush at least on her part was mentioned. That and I am a "resolve" kind of girl. I like to see things resolved. I like closure...LOL. Again, pardon my essays but I'm home recovering from surgery, so I have nothing to do except hang here, watch TV, and work on comic-con stuff.

I'm 18 years old and of course i ship Kataang. I like Kataang......for mostly all the reasons other people stated I also hate it when people say Kataang's too cliche and obvious. Zutara wouldn't be any less cliche and as for obvious, that means it's going to happen, so WTF are u argueing about? IMO, all arguments against Kataang (besides the AS argument) are pretty weak. I also ship Maiko and Tokka/Sukka, and i have a soft spot for Taang. The only ship i really hate is Zutara

I've made an interesting observation of Kataang and Zutara shippers and how they label the opposing ship. If you like the ship, it's classic. If you don't like it, it's cliche.
Katanng gets my attention because Aang is the "Nice Guy." A group under which I fall into. Their relationship is already very strong, and can become as strong as they want. They trust each other, compromise, forgive each other's weaknesses, and they're the other's most die-hard supporter.
It's possibly because I am an aforementioned nice guy, but the arguments against Kataang do kind of offend me. I'd go into more detail, but I don't want to end up writing an Essay on something that's way off the subject.

Melis, you are right. The Aang's love and Katara's growing potential feelings for him is cute. Makes me smile.

Not to mention that Nice Guys Finish Last nowadays. It's fun to root for the Nice-Dorky Guy for a change. It's sooo adorable that I just can't find myself shipping another OTP for a long time to come. It makes me smile too. Whenever Aang thinks/mentions Katara or whenever he has a moment with her I always have this smile on my face. I hope we get some more like that in S3. Oh, and I forgot to mention what other ships I like: Mai/Zuko, Jin/Zuko, Sokka/Suki, Zuko/Ty Lee, etcetc.

Perfect, among other things, is relative to the person. Nothing's perfect but in my eyes, this ship approaches that. Or it could be that I just dislike the two main opposite sex protagonsts hooking up. It could be my...bigotry? Perhaps, but if that's the case at least you admit to it. I will say this, of my viewpoint on the matter. I like it because it represents a situation which is all too uncommon in real life. It has always seemed to me that too many girls and women like the guys who aren't like Aang - the ones who are the antithesis of Aang, if you will. Guys like Zuko. That makes it rather hard for all those nice guys out there (a group which I fancy I might qualify as part of). So, with that in mind, take a look at the situation. In Zutara, it seems like there's often that "bad boy" appeal/attraction where Zuko is concerned - the need to take someone who is "less than perfect" and mold him - to "heal" him as it were. Unfortunately, in real life this usually works out badly, from what I can tell of the experiences of many women I know. Zutara might be sexy. It might be "hot" or passionate or whatever appealing word used to describe the pairing. But with natures like the two that the characters have, it would never be unconditional. If Zuko and Katara were together, then Zuko would, to some degree, always want to 'possess' her - even if it would not be the best thing for her. Aang would never do that - he would die for her without demanding anything in return. If the lack of selfishness in a relationship is boring, then so be it. In Kataang, the appeal is of one for acceptance and a more unconditional offering of love/affection/what have you. Also, it would be some vindication for the many nice guys out there who get passed up for that "Zuko" figure - some smoldering, angry, angsty figure who for some reason has far more sex appeal than your average friendly geek. Truthfully, I see enough "Zutara" in real life - it has no appeal in fantasy. I much prefer the thought that someone like Aang could have happiness - that his struggles and hopes (and ultimately his losses and sacrifices) will not be in vain. It is the fantasy that there is something within a person that cannot be so easily explained away as purely the physical attraction of one individual to another - but is a manifestation of the pure and unconditional emotion one has for another human being. Love is a word that is tossed around so easily now that I think in many ways it has lost the depth of its meaning. Through Kataang it has regained one such definition in my mind. "There's a word for that kind of devotion... it's called 'love'." Thanks. I used to discuss these things a lot more often, but I fear I'm out of practice now. Ok, from what I see is that there is a great many guys who ship this ship like yourself who feel that they have been wrong by guys they see as the Zukos of the world. Can you tell me how exactly you feel you are like Aang, like trait wise. I also must tell you that not all girls go for Zuko. A great amount prefer Sokka. This is just a matter of curiosity for me.

Aang is a kind, fun loving, polite, very social, and considerate of others. He's also a bit of a spazz, he can say things that draw the "WTF?" looks from people, he can have trouble keeping on task if he's not careful, and he's very worried about what others think of him.
Other than his out-going social attitude, that describes me perfectly.

I don't see myself as Aang and i definitely don't see myself as Zuko, I just ship Kataang because i like it, plain and simple

Which I don't understand. In a world full of strife, divorce, people cheating on each other, our fascination with trainwreck relationships and watching people hurt each other and fall apart, a relationship built on love, trust, friendship, respect should be refreshing and beautiful.

Ah Yes, Katara and Aang are like poetry in motion. Zuko and Katara are like a train wreck.
I guess it all has to do with why reality TV shows are so popular. People aren't watching them to see who wins, they watch them to see people lose.

What's wrong with being a hopeless romantic? ...not that I am one, mind you... but I mean, really, is it so bad? I confess that I am one and proud of it. *Slight off-topic* Naru/Saku (naruto) just amplies my hopeless romanticness, but that can be discussed in the Naruto Board, dont want it discussed here.
