I was Just wondering if Aang gave up on Katara for good because the Guru at the eastern air temple told him that he had to let go of her to master the avatar state. and when Azula shot him With lighting Katara picked him up and put him on Appa and when he woke up He smiled at her. Do any of you think the same thing?

This is a highly discussed topic...why don't you try the Kat/Aang thread?
As I have said many times before, I do not think the Guru meant Aang had to give up Katara completely. I think he meant that both Aang and Katara need to understand that know one can get in the way of the responsibility that I has to the world.

Nope I think he's far from it, I think that Aang's love for Katara will last and he will never give up on her, especially since she saved his life.

Exactly! I think the fact that she saved his life will only make him love her more.

Nu-uh. Aang could never give up on Katara in a sense. Love as strong as his can't be discarded so easily. However, setting aside his feelings for her in order to fullfill his destiny is the only way I can see Aang "giving up" on Katara. He has duties to the world, and like many others have said before me:
Katara < The World You can't keep both and expect both at the same time. He has to belong to everybody, not just to one person.
As for Aang waking up and seeing Katara, you can kind of take it like this: He gave up his attachment to Katara (if you believe he fully mastered the AS by then), and when he gets zapped then revived later on, he wakes up and sees Katara only to fall in love with her all over again. That is because Love is a form of energy and it swirls all around us. It never stops, it only keeps coming back.

You can't just give up on love nor can you love forever, but there's always a special bond. Understand that there's so many definitions of love, if one can even hope to define 'love'. And really, Aang's the friggin' Avatar. He has to focus on saving the world first. Also, any relationship with anyone could sabatoge him, although I don't think he knows that yet....or does he? But what if one doesn't want to venture into the Kataang thread? I'm not an intense crazy insane shipper of any ship but still..... Never mind. ~Shirozora

I think it really showed symblizem when Katara was holding Aang like that, only in the frist eppisode Katara didn't really know who she was dealing with. They had just met, but in the season fannale she knew him perfecly and he knew her perfecly and over that time spand he had grown to love her. First eppisode Season fannale I think that that will only make his love stronger for her.

I'm not sure if this is that relevent at all, but if you notice, when Aang first meets Toph (not Blind Bandit) He looks up to her too. I always thought that was weird... but any way, I'm thinking Katara only likes Aang as like a brother or son, but thats not to say he doesn't love her like not a sister or mom, or what not.

Azula struck Aang down before he could complete that spirit thing. Aang has probably learned to never give her up.

First eppisode Season fannale I think that that will only make his love stronger for her. Wow... when you put those two images next too eachother I get the creepiest feeling of foreshadowing. Look at the first image. Katara is pure and innocent, framed in white and looking lovely. It is an idealized first impression image which Aang awoke too. Now look at the second awakening. The scy is dark, her hair's a mess, she's all crazy-eyed and fatigued. Somehow I don't think things are going to be as pure and playful this time around.

The images do resemble one another... but I can not agree that Katara is crazy eyes looking in it. If anything, she does look exhausted and above all, relieved.
Remember, this is the first time she is using the special oasis water and this was indeed a life and death matter. I am sure 'Will this work?" must have ran through her mind as she tried to save her friends life.

^I was commenting on symbolic imagery, not what was going through her head.

Symbolism and crazy coincidences run WILD in ATLA, like in Season 2. Episode 202 has the cave and the whole 'zOMG Kataang'. Episode.....the last one of season 2 has the cave and the whole 'zOMG Zutara'. (until Zuko went stupid and Azula went awesome and Iroh went amazing and Katara went PWNing and Aang...kicked off) Then there's the whole Katara's mom, Lu-Ten, and Ursa deal I realized when I found out exactly how old the core characters were when those crazy life-changing events took place..... Those pics give me the CREEPS. ~Shirozora
