^ Not to mention, Azula didn't seem to care too much that Ursa disappeared. I'm guessing their relationship really wasn't that great. As for Azula and boys, we've seen her The Beach. She had a hard time getting them to like her, I think they thought she was beautiful/pretty (Chan's words as well as Ty Lee, I believe) however their fear of her got in the way. However Azula said she was used to being worshipped because she was the Fire Lord's daughter--so it depends what the situation is--do the guys know her or not?
Also, Kaibasgirl brought up something interesting--Azula seemed unsure of herself. It was said several times by her friends, and herself that she was perfect. Insecurity maybe?
And yes I really do think Ursa kinda hurt her, because if you look at Azula's face when she's talking about Ursa in The Beach her expression changes a lot but you see a look of pain before they show Ty Lee and Mai along with Zuko looking at her; and then she changes the tone in her voice, saying, "She was right of course. But it still hurt."
I think she changed the tone in her voice because she doesn't like being pitied, and that's what her friends were doing. If you want me to post the screencaps, tell me and I will.

Don't worry, I noticed it too.
I think just as Zuko has unresolved Daddy issues, Azula has some unresolved Mommy issues. Of course, Azula isn't Zuko, she isn't going to run around angsting about it--she already said as much.
The simple fact is, I think, she never really got over losing Ursa. She had a shaky relationship with her mom from the get-go, but she probably wondered if she'd be able to prove herself as she got older. Than Ursa vanished, and Azula kind of lost that light in the darkness, so to speak.
Ursa affected both of her children deeply.

^ I agree. I defiantly think she was hurt by her mom. I mean, shes so used to be perfect, but then her own mother thinks she's a mother. she's gonna think something is wrong with her that her mother would think that.

you know, it may just be me, but I don't think the creators would put this much psycology in a children's show.

But Avatar's not normal, if you've noticed. There are a lot of things that we didn't expect of Avatar like saying things like, "kill," instead of "destroy." Or the fact that our 12 year old hero was struck by lightning; or that our villain burned his son's face; or having bloodbending. And other things.

Besides, we have enogh psycology mumbo jumbo going around with everybody else, Azula doesn't need to join the Angst gang. And besides, I've seen alot worse in a childrens show. If you watch Naruto, especially in the original Japenese dub, they include things like: Death, Mass Murder Revenge Peeping a character's nickname is "Perverted Hermit" Partial nudity Pornography using the words, S***, B****rd, P***, DumbA** and excesive amounts of blood, gore, and violence.

I hope we were able to help you Daydream. ^_^ Definately! I have to thank you all lots, because there is now way I could have come up with half as many thoughts as you guys have. I mean, I did plan on an Ursa-Azula-Zuko confrontation scene at the end, but nothing quite to this extent. Thank you!

Matrik: Naruto isn't for kids. Naruto is also Anime, and if you've watched a lot of anime what goes on in Naruto is pretty normal anime. In addition Cartoon Network's Toonami is very different from Nick. Also we aren't saying Azula is in the Angst fest gang, because being hurt doesn't automatically you join that group right? I believe she can handle her emotions well--therefore lightning and firebending well, unlike Zuko who has, "emotional turmoil." Daydream: I'm glad! I can't wait for the confrontation! I like the idea of Zuko-Ursa-Azula confronting in the canon.

^ true. Everyone gets hurts... if they didn't, they're not human. It's a normal human emotion, but unlike Zuko, she doesn't let it take over

And that in itself presents an obstacle for Azula, in a way. She's so used to keeping her emotions (Trying to figure out how to word this without making it sound like I'm referring to Mai).... to herself, I guess. She isn't used to letting it "take over", for lack of better term, the way Zuko sometimes does. It's both a plus and a minus.
(A plus because she isn't the angst-fest Zuko is, a minus because she never really reaches an emotional conclusion)

^ exactly. She's very war tactical and showing emotion would be considered a weakness. Although, from the beach, we could see that she *is* cabable of showing emotion, though it is rare. And that certain things, such as her mother, can do that to her. Maybe Sokka can do something *shrugs*

I feel that Azula's defenses to keep her emotions in check may be her downfall. But hopefully we will see more emotions from her because we did see a sketch of her looking really really angry/disgusted in 2007 Comic Con. (If anyone can find that screencaps, can you please post it? i can't see screencaps in ASN for some reason.)
