I don't believe in destiny, you guys, so I can't agree with you there. I think that life sets out paths and opportunities for a person, and they have the choice to take a certain path and go from there. Each action is a step in the road of life and if they choose the right path and take the correct steps, then they'll live a good life and end up with a great and rich life, with much prosperity and happiness. Okay, I'm done. *gets off soapbox* Anyway, I can still say that it's pretty crafty that it so happened all those major events somewhat related to one another as Trust listed took place at relatively the same time. Now I get, what you intended to say *is ashamed he didn't get it the first time*. I guess I could have written "what the creators seem to be up to" instead of "destiny", but on the other hand destiny is shorter and sounds more powerfull. xD Anyway, Zuko and Katara have oddly similar pasts (year list example) manufactured for them and are opposites in many aspects in the same time. They themselves even quoted most of them: Zuko calling himself a prince, yet Katara a peasent Katara: If Fire is the opposite of Water... and our beloved "You rise with the moon..." as an example. Thus fitting the concept of balance of yin and yang: Opposites, which also have similarities in them and working great in the overall storytelling of Avatar. It would be a logical couple as Zutara already has a long history without the characters even knowing (past) and spiritual reasoning to happen (sign of hope anyone?).^^

I'm not sure if I believe in destiny myself however I use it a lot in terms of books, shows, etc. because since the characters aren't deciding their own fates and the writers are.. it just seems to fit. Add in some forshadowing.. and it's a logical conclusion. -shrug- (-because after all .. the writer decides the fate)

I believe in destiny, but I think how you act in between that time shapes who you become. Say, for instance, in this incident he could join the group, get to understand Katara, things like that. In a different way Zutara still could have in a sense happen, only had he been a prince she would have been a slave or something. *Shrugs*

Building up fates and characters with seemingly no connection yet many things in common, although pretty diverse at the first side is a pretty good way of story telling. It gives a short encounter a big story background, making scenes appear "epic". In my opinion, which is pretty biased as a Zutarian of course, what the creators were doing with these two characters: Being attached to Aang, thus becoming enemies and then in the turn of events coming closer and revealing their background (past, POVs and things like that) and then possibly join forces and discover common goals eventualy (I admit this is pretty much season 3 speculation I'm doing here) fits pretty well, what Aunt Wu described as "great romance".

The destiny is not accepted, is chosen. XD
Therefore one does not have to seat to hope that this it happens. There are something personal legend; that it is what one decides what to do of its life since is young. And when one wishes something with all its forces, the universe conspires so that you obtain your assignment. And it is giving slight tracks to you that are opportunities to take; and if you do not take advantage of them in time, these let appear and you will not have obtained that destiny that you had chosen for you.
