I have to disagree about most Zuko fans being girls. I would think he'd just be kind of annoying to guys. But I do think it's an interesting phenomenon that the anti-hero usually ends up stealing any show. Look at Pirates of the Carribean. I think originally Jack Sparrow was clearly an anti-hero and Will Turner was a classic hero. But who ended up being the romantic focus for so many ladies? Smelly, bizarre Jack. Are straight ahead heroes boring? I don't know. I hope not. I think people identify with anti-heroes more that with classic heroes because everyone is imperfect. So it's reasuring to have heroes with those same imperfections, whether it's being smelly and bizarre, or angry and self-destructive. Classic heroes seem to be above us mere mortals, so they don't usually get that kind of reaction. As for Jack getting the ladies, I don't know why that is. Realistically, Will should be more of the babe magnet. Probably just the movie people making the decision to play up the more popular character. But then I still haven't seen the latest PotC movie, so I probably don't know what I'm talking about...

^Nah, Will and what's-her-name get married in the last movie...Jack's a pirate, pirates don't have any mistresses but the sea.
Anyway, I think the progression is what makes Zuk's character so interesting for me. I really want to see where all of this rage and pain is going, and hopefully it leads to a good place.
I'm also strongly for the idea that Zuko catches Aang and takes him to Ozai...and I can't choose whether I like him getting rejected still or getting everything he wants and then rejecting it himself would be better.

This reminds me of Naruto. Far more people seem to like Gaara, Itachi, or Sasuke more than Naruto. I relate the most with Sokka, but I'm a lot like Zuko and Aang too. I'm risky, hilarious, and a tough guy like Sokka. I'm also aggressive and a loner like Zuko. Aang is also kind and honorable, like me, but a bit foolish and lacks some wisdom, even for the avatar. Even I'm more wise than him, I';m sure, and I'm sure not as foolish as Aang.

It's different for me. I love Zuko, but I hate Sasuke with a passion. He has to be the most boring character I've ever had the displeasure to come across.

I'm not sure where you get this, and I guess to each his own.
Zuko is no doubt popular, but I don't think that he "steals" the show. Emo boys like that generally get more attention (Sasuke and Naruto for example). I think Aang as the protagonist is perfect, but Zuko is his complement. You wouldn't be able to have the show without one or the other.
I like Aang better! Even though I might resemble Zuko more at times. At heart, I'm probably Aang.

It's all a thing of likeness. Some loves the heros, while others (me incluided) loves the anti-hero-"I-care-for-myself--and-only-myself" ones. It goes without saying that Zuko steals the show, but not always. He has his charm, Aang too (and lately, I've been finding myself saying that Aang is charming and cute), and anyways, the serie's about Aang's way of the Avatar, not Zuko's way of capturing the Avatar and restoring his honor. Zuko works for me ^_^ The 3rd guy is Heero Yuy of Gundam Wing fame. BTW, nice sig, kosuke. Sasuke isn't my cup of tea, but Zuko and Heero side by side is just too cool. Thanks! I kinda sort of like Sasuke -not my fave compared to Itachi or Kakashi-, but it was a good pick for my troubled guy list. Glad you liked it

Well, .......
All depends of what kind of hero and antihero there are in the show: it can be a possitive hero (as Aang) or a negative hero (a bad guy that do things that a hero do), and a badguy-antihero (that is bad an cruel, all) and an heroic antihero (as Zuko).

If the guy is completely bad, then he really isn't an anti-hero, he's a traditional villain.

There's no such thing as a 'bad-guy anti-hero.' Anti-heroes are those who do good works but are also kind of anti-social. Don't like the world they're saving. Heroes are straight up good guys.
Bad guys are just bad guys. If they do some good works they become anti-heroes.

And we end up recurring to The script professor: who explain that to us. He said that in a show can have more of a hero aside from the main one…. And the hero can be positive and negative ........ Im still thinking if Zuko is a heroic-atiheroe or a negative hero XD…. The antihero who is bad-bad, is not gray personage; single black; pure hatred and badness. It is the classic antihero, the villain, the bad one.

From my long ago literature courses, I recall the professor saying anti-heroes are protagnists who are flawed and motivated by selfish desires. They may do some good, but it isn't their intention.
I think Zuko has a duel role. In Aang's story, he is a villain. Obviously, he's been trying to capture Aang and he's been a terror to the Gaang. He stands in Aang's path to saving the world.
But in Zuko own story, he is an anti-hero. He's not trying to do good, but he occasionally does it once in a while. And his greatest enemy is his own personality flaws.

Anti-heroe is basically the guy that is against the heroe, that want that the hero never completes its goal.

Anti-heroe is basically the guy that is against the heroe, that want that the hero never completes its goal. Errr...no that's the villain. Anti-heros are heroes, they're just not stereotypically heroic about it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-hero

An anti-hero is a character cast as a hero despite the fact that they possess no heroic qualities...which really doesn't describe Zuko all that well. He's not cast as the hero and he possess heroic qualities...his sense of honour, his loyalty (even if it is misplaced), his sticking up for others...
