Yeah, and that would lead to her betraying and leaving Ozai's Angels! YES! Then Zuko would feel badly for her and put a hand on her shoulder... ...and then, there would be a double defection and a glorious prison breakout. And we would all eat cupcakes. ^___^

All right. We have the Zutarians and the Kataangs. I'm not gonna let them have all the fun, so I'm joining in to create another war room: Maiko. ;D Why? Its simple. I think Mai's crush for Zuko is extremely adorable, and there's gonna be something going on between them. I know Maiko shippers are few and far between, but all the other shippers are welcome. Just don't start another bashing. I find this ship very likely to occur, it makes since like Kataang. After seeing "Zuko Alone", I am sure I want to ally myself. This appears to be the oldest known ship, 8 years.

At some point in time, I will cease posting every random Mai/Zuko related thought in my head to this thread...but that time is not now! My brother and I were discussing Azula's possible reasons for bringing Mai along to hunt Zuko even though she knows that Mai likes him and as I thought about it a bit of a speculative theory formed itself in my mind. Because Azula is a lot of things, but she's not stupid. She's a strategist, treating everything as a war game. So it occured to me that an explanation for her bringing Mai along could be that Zuko likes Mai and Azula knows this and she plans to use Mai as a bit of insurance, one might say. And the thing that made me upgrade this in my mind from wild speculation to an actual theory is when I started considering the possible foreshadowing/hinting in the flashback. Azula puts Mai in danger in a very cavalier manner because she wants Zuko to react and seems to be very confident that this is a sure way to manipulate him ("I told you it would work!"). So it the question then becomes, is it possible that history will repeat itself? That is BRILLANT foreshadowing-spotting! That does make sense. You have to really wonder about Azula with the flaming apple; was she doing it because she thought it was funny and was being a kid, or because she knew Zuko would try and save Mai? I also wonder too; Azula wouldn't really let Mai get burnt by flames...( I think ^^; So she must have known what Zuko would do, as well as Ty who would, normally, probably help Mai. Yeahs. @_@ X) That makes sense...and the creators wouldn't put another person crushing on Zuko just for kicks...it has to mean something *please be something mutual, please be something mutual! xD* I'm wondering if there will be a situation where Mai needs help, and Zuko tries to come to the rescue? *Mais much older now though, and mature, so she can probably assist in the 'rescue'* I know it's cliche, but I could see Mai being trapped in a cell and Zuko finding her and helping her. I mean...I'm not the only person dreaming up a dreamy scene of: *Zuko outstreches his hand, sunlight melting from behind, creating attractive shadows on his face* *He stares down at Mai from the emu-horse* : "Come with me." *Mai is blushing feverishly, and takes his outstreched hand...* *Mwa!* Oui, oui. *Don't kill me!* ^^;; Although...mm... Zuko would be a bit more demanding for her to come if there are people chasing them. It'd be excellent to find Mai Zukos companion throughout the rest of his travels...focus on some romance with him...with honor...and...yeahs. X) *Takes the plotbunny in above paragraph* Well, yeah. Gotterdammerung, awesom observation. I can truly believe the creators were hinting at the scenario you posted above. Edit: And am I the only one who thinks Zuko will not join Aang and the gang? I...sort of see Zuko and Aang as two characters who must travel seperate journeys with seperate companions to recieve the benifit of themselves and their power. I'm not saying I like Zuko alone, but I would prefer him to travel his own journeys with others, so that he still realizes he is an urgent case. Well, not urgent, just...
If he joined Aang, wouldn't it end up being more about Aang and his problems than Zukos? It doesn't seem like Sokka, Katara, Momo, Appa, Toph, and Aangs problems can evenly balance with Zukos. It sort of feels like he would be lost in the shuffle. I like focusing on his problems when he appears, and Aangs when he appears. It evens out, and breaks up the problems.

^ Yes, I agree that Zuko should not join with Aang and co. They are sort of a 'comic relief' group; compared to Zuko's darkness, their problems seem trivial.
For Gotterdammerung, excellent observation. *karma*

Whoa...the more I think about this, the more I agree with you entirely. I used to think it would have been the best thing for Zuko to join up with the Gaang because he'd finally have real friends and such, but honestly, now that there's Mai and Ty, who's to say he can't start a little circle of buds with them instead, once they walk out on Her Royal Freakness? Good one, here's a Karma uppage your way!

xD Arigato The Weasleyboys! :3 I try hard to think it through before deciding. I just see the gang steadily morphing Zuko to put Aangs problems before his own, and in the process that could result in Zuko- although having friends, losing part of his journey somehow.
Aangs the Avatar. Zuko's a banished prince. They both need a good chunk of time to balance themselves out, their responsiblities, and what comes there after. Not only that, if Zuko does inherit the throne *oh boy, I'm probably the only one who wants Zuko and Azula to rule together too...xD*, if he inherits the throne he will need to put his nation first, along with his own troubles...
I wouldn't ask Aang to conform to fit Zukos problems/schedule either, necessarily. Being the Avatar; mastering all elements, learning to keep balance within himself, trying to stop the Fire Nation from gaining to much power- and the comet?
Both Aang and Zuko, to me, what not have equal attention of their needs if they traveled together, because combining both their problems together...That's not the trouble with me so much as they would mature differently if they traveled together. It would seem so easy after all the struggle, and I don't know if Zuko can truly juggle his independence while being so focused on several people, and a love interest who will, supposedly, blind him of all else, except her...@_@
I dunno. I just think they could get more of maturity, feel more like themselves if Zuko does not join Aang and gang.
>.>....
xD* Exhalts the weasleyboys. (Welcome to the boards!)* X)
Edit: Have we decided postitions? I would like to be something high-official. I really love this pairing! xD Please do not deprive me of lurve...*shrivels* I could be negotiator or Avatar or weaver or sorceress of whatever...I'd enjoy any of it. xD *So long as its clear I mean I like it when I mean I like it! X)*

^ Well, here are some examples of titles you can get, considering I have chieftainess and Kadaj has General...bewarned though... some are a bit cracked, XD: Ambassador of the Maiko Tribe Maiko Tribe Warrior Warchief of the Maiko Tribe (More leaders, more fun!) Witchdoctor of the Maiko Tribe... The Maiko Tribe Avatar Tea lady of the Maiko Tribe... ... yeah, I'm not creative... if you can come up with better, then go ahead... ... if we get more members, then we can progress from tribe to Kingdom...

*karmas!*
YES OMG. Breathing, I have been thinking this for the longest time. It's just pretty much assumed in this fandom that Zuko will join up with Aang and the gang, but I've never really liked the idea at all. I do much prefer the idea of him traveling his own path and assembling his own group. Now, I fully expect a truce between him and Aang in the end, before the final battle, but I think that Zuko is just still so far from being aligned with Aang's mission right now that it's sort of ridiculous.
They're still at crosspurposes, not as directly as they were when he was actively chasing Aang (Though we still can't be ENTIRELY certain he's given up on capturing him. I think he has but we don't have confirmation.), but still pretty separate and distinct goals. I think Zuko standing up and declaring himself the way that he did in Zuko Alone drives home this fact. He doesn't want to defeat the Fire Nation, if we judge by the fact that he calls himself heir to the throne and still cites his father's name without hesitation, he doesn't want to overthrow his father. He wants his birthright to be his, not his sister's. He's resolved himself not to be passed over in the way that Iroh was. Now, how he goes about trying to achieve this since even capturing Aang will likely do no good at this point remains to be seen. But I think he's still a long ways away from the outright rebellion/treason that joining up with Aang and actively working to overthrow Ozai would be. Zuko's nothing if not a loyalist.
Also, I love your scenario for Mai/Zuko, but I have a noted White Knight kink so it's to be expected.
I do however think chances of Mai joining Zuko in his travels before he reunites with Iroh are low. I'd love it a lot, but whenever I consider it I keep thinking that Nick probably wouldn't want to have coed teenagers traveling by themselves unattended so to speak. I mean, a teenage brother and sister with a pair of twelve-year-olds is one thing. But I just cannot imagine them going ahead and having 17 year old Zuko traveling alone with 16 or 17 year old Mai, who has a noted romantic interest in him, on a Y7 rated show on Nick. And I honestly can't decide if adding Ty Lee would make it better or worse. Probably worse since it would seem like Zuko was traveling with a harem, heh.
I haven't decided mine yet either! I really want one too because I started off deeply intrigued with this pairing from moment one and now it is so totally my OTP on this show to the exclusion of all other ships, so I really feel like I should have a position!
ETA: Hmmm. Maybe I can be Ambassador...I am a pacifist by nature! But that doesn't sound quite...fervent enough?

FINALLY!!!! I've been waiting for people to object to the idea that Zuko will join the Aang gang. I've been opposed to the idea from the beginning. Zuko needs to grow up and follow his own path... one that doesn't involve tagging along with someone. Zuko is a person who needs to be a leader in order to stand on his own two feet. Just because the guy isn't evil doesn't mean that people should assume that he'll automatically join the Aang gang. It's way too predictable and way too overused. I don't really have much else to add. Everyone said everything already.

Don't cry, I'm sure they've just thought of these things before you had the chance. We can tell it's not that you couldn't think of them, you sure are smart enough. They just beat us to it ^ Don't worry Kadaj, it makes sense. ^.^ I love playing all those war-type games (not to mention watching movies of that type) so I know what you're talking about. And you pretty much belong here, I'm sure everyone likes you. Haha, thanks ^^!
