Kensesu drove the cart along the road to the caravan's next village. HE ahd made a small turn when an exhausted looking woman with a baby in her arms hobbled up.
"Excuse me, sir?" she panted from the roadside
"Hm? Oh, what is it-peasant?" replied Kensesu, with a hint of disdain on the last word "My village was attacked by a foreign army!" she cried
"It's but an uprising, poor fool."
"No, sir, it was the Fire Nation."
"It will be done soon, like the wars of old."
"But it is much more serious! There were armies there!"
"You are worthless." finished Kensesu, with a whip of the horse-mules.
Kensesu had barely moved five miles before he saw thearmiesof which the girl dpoke. They were huge, encompassing the hills as well as they small valley where the road passed through. Kensesu whipped around the mule-horses in fear, causing them to move at top speed. They barrledaround the turn, nearly causing a crash, and KEnsesu stopped near an inn to spread the word.

In a few days, Iko had been aboard a ship, headed to the claimed territories of the Earth Kingdom. She traveled on a luxorious fire Nation ship, still metal and dingy, but decorated inwards with colorful ornaments of Fire Nation making. Red lining filled the edges of the room, while pillows, futons, and other furniture covered the rest. Iko had felt no point in leaving her room, other than to eat or rid herself of wastes. She remained in their for the most part of the trip, and relaxed unto the warm and soft cloth.
Occasionally, while she dined, she felt hungry eyes upon herself, and did nothing to stop them. She felt these eyes belonged to some people of use, to be able to travel along a rich ship.
Meditating on the sheets, Iko patiently breathed, slowly she was practicing her firebending, hoping to attain a masterful way to firebend She had not been born a prodigy, but her skills outmatched many of her age, through concentrated practice and deep ambition she escalated her levels beyond the mediocre. She felt that anger and frustration would only lead to self-destruction, she needed a balance of nature: adaptability, endurance, ambition, and freedom.
And so I shall learn, from the fallen prey. Thought Iko maliciously; she had one of the natures, if not more, ambition, the driving force to her actions.
A sudden knock disrupted her time of peace. A flitter of anger passed through her eyes, and then a slow breath of calm. She opened the door with a deceptive smile, and answered, "Yes?"
It was one of those who gawked at her during luncheon. A pathetic worm in her eyes, he amounted nothing to her, but she was interested at his boldness to speak with her.
"Hi-hi...I'm-m Kozu, it's n-n-nice t-to meet you." She said, shaking slowly. She smiled, and her lips pursed, and she started to move closer to him. He backed away, and slowly went near the rails of the ship. She kept advancing, seeing the red blush on his face, as their faces were nearly four inches apart. Her eyes narrowed, with that dark smile, and she put both hands on his shoulders, and was about to send a blast of fire at him, knocking him into the ocean when her parents walked by notifying her that the ship would be dockinging soon. She turned around, sitll smiling darkly, and walked off.
Kozu was stunned to see what had happened, yet he felt a slight warmth where she touched him on the shoulders. He looked down to see dark singes on his clothing, and charred satin.

The night air was still. Not a creature was stirring, not even a cat-mouse. Riko had left the mansion almost an hour ago with only a satchel of food, some money and clothing but it was still hard doing all this. She had been a bodyguard for a short while to one of the Royal Family’s little ones and it was amazing how she survived that. Oh Agni that was one bad experience! The little royal always had someone trying to assassinate him, be it jealous commoners or their relative a dozen times removed.
She had risked her life then to protect the nation’s pride and joy and it was honorable. This time however was different. She knew this was an honorable thing to do. She was still helping her country as her family always had but somehow it seemed…wrong. Come morning everyone in the whole nation would be talking about the newly started war. “Ah, here we are.” Murmured Riko quietly into the night air
Slowly but surely she spotted the captain of the ship idly walking up and down the gang plank. Riko smirked to herself, “Might as well have a bit of fun.” As she slinked in the darkness, the glint of a butterfly knife concealed in her sleeve the captain was oblivious to her presence.
“Hello captain.” Said Riko as she pressed the blunt end of the knife to the captain’s throat, it never hurt anyone to be too careful now was it?
“Who are you?” said the captain frantically
“This should explain things soon enough.” Replied Riko
As she handed the scroll to him, carefully retreating to stand in front of him as he read. A frown of concentration and a bead of sweat rolled down his temple. Tucking the scroll into his belt he bowed to her.
“This fleet is at your command. I am Captain Chen at your service. Where are we headed madam?”
“Pleased to meet you Captain Chen, my mission is my business you however are to help me achieve my mission and nothing more. I trust you now have adequate information on the upcoming war?”
“Yes.” “Good. We are to proceed to the Northern Water Tribe at this very moment. Negotiations must be made and haste is vital on this mission I trust you and your crew will stay loyal?”
As she said this, a burst of flame was lit in front of the Captain’s face. However he did not waver but his eyes told her he wouldn’t try anything lest losing his rank, or worse.
“I swear by the spirits that I and my crew shall not complicate your mission in any way, nor will we ever think of betraying the Fire Nation.”
“Alright then, set a course for the Northern Water Tribe.”
“Yes madam.”

Suzume ran her hand through her tousled hair and shut the gate to Kimochi's stall, having just returned from a very...refreshing...flight. She felt a little more comforted now, maybe just from having some time to think about her troubles. "See you later, buddy." she murmured to Kimochi.
Walking leisurely along cobblestone paths, Suzume chirped a little tune. She stared into the azure sky, and the wandering clouds that lolled about in the never-ending ocean of blue. Still whistling, Suzume wondered; " How can the whole world be so beautiful and yet so ugly? How can the Fire Nation be plotting the deaths and torture of so many people, but the sky still shine blue? "
Wanting to get these thoughts out of her mind, at least until the festival was over, Suzume wandered, like the clouds, into an ocean now of orange and yellow. Cloth tents billowed and fluttered in the constant breeze. The crowds pulsed like the lifeblood of the earth itself. Small Nomads laughed and chattered, and older Masters strode with dignity. Suzume noticed, however, that they all looked happy. Even the most refined and up-tight Sentient Master would crack a slight smile at the sight of dancing puppets and whipping banners. This festival was a good thing; the Nomads could forget their worries here- the Airbenders could have one more moment of carefree liberty and happiness, as was their nature, before embarking on a maybe year-long effort against the Fire Nation.
One in particular caught Suzume's eye; a tall, average-weight Nomad, with sienna colored eyebrows; he was garbed in traditional Air Nomad robes, and wore a string of vermilion wooden beads around his neck. The thing that had drawn Suzume's eye was a small Airbender, maybe eight or nine in years. He was tugging and pulling on the older monks robes, pointing and gesturing to the bright colors and enthralling movements on the festival site, his eyes sparkling. The Master chastised the young boy, but with a kind face. "...Chiko! You know better! Although, this is a magnificent setup. I myself had doubts on whether the Eastern Temple would be prepared to- Chiko!"
The little Nomad had broken away from his caretaker and had started running straight toward Suzume. He laughed and pointed at the tent to his side, not bothering to look directly in front, where- WHUMPH!!!
The little Chiko, as Suzume had heard him called, had been running headlong toward a cart filled with jelly pies and pasties. However, unbeknownst to Chiko, the monk who was pushing the cart started moving toward the food stalls. The Nomad with the cart got momentum going with the cart, and by the time he had seen the little boy, it was too late....
Suzume charged in front of the cart and snatched Chiko away from harm. By the time she had turned to face the cart, it was upon her. She tried to jump out of the way, but was too slow. In the middle of her sidelong flail, the cart collided with the back of her head and connected viciously with her back. For a moment, Suzume was suspended in the air, her clothing flapping from the force of the blow. Her head snapped back, and Suzume heard a crack. Colors and sounds were lost from her knowledge, ending maybe forever. Time stopped. Her surroundings blurred...
Yelling, Suzume was pitched, flying, into a nearby tent. Her body was flung like a doll into a world of yellow and orange. Suzume saw only crimson before her eyes. The cloth ripped and wood collapsed, falling about Suzume and the tent's inhabitant's in a roiling mass.
Suzume lay still for a moment, a black expanse now before her closed eyes. One second. One decision. One movement. So fast. She had just been thinking about using some of her pocket-money to buy a jelly roll, and then the little boy had broken loose. And the cart. A massive, looming cart, heavy with sweets. Heavy, heavy wood, trundling toward her. It had been upon her before she could think.
And that's when the pain hit. Ripping, jarring pain. It tore through her spine and shoulders, her neck and head. Roaring, splitting pain. Fiery, sharp, severing pain that permeated her very thoughts. Her head, her head. It was ringing with anger.
She heard a muffled voice and the crying of a small child...Chiko? The cloth moved around her; and hands, searching for a human form. Searching for her.
She heard a woman's voice now; whether it was in her head or in the realm of reality, she could not tell. Ten-thousand suns burst through her conscious mind, and then...all was dark.

Tang hobbled down the hill with Chiko now at his heels. This was Chiko's first time at festivle, the other times the monks were too worried that Chiko would have one of his fits to particapate, but Yomi and Tang agreed that Chiko should experianced at least one.
The little bender's eyes little up with with merriment as he past the tents tugging at Tang's robes. Chiko was like a salve, a rare and potent balm that can cure anything. Tang's worry melted away as Chiko laughed in glee. The astrologer sighed, wondering where his psedo-parent, Yomi was Probably with Nami doing what Akash knows what Thought Tang absently, not watching Chiko as he pelt-melt ran, straight to a heavy sweet cart along with a young Air-nun. Tang frozen in horror as he knew that it was to late. MY CHILD
Chiko ran down the hill to the main temple unaware of the cart and Suzume. Like a flash of inspiration! Tang watched frozen at Suzume shooved Chiko out of the way only to be run over. Nun Yasu and Tang ran over calling for both pupils. Tang scrambled to get Chiko who was on the ground crying with a small bump, Tang got to him as fast as he could and saw Yasu uncovered an unconcious nun "Vayu's Mercy, Suzume!" Tang walked over and pick the girl up. "Sister, I'll take her to the Infirmery and Chiko as well, it's my fault Sister." Yasu looked uneasy at the young master, but he wasted no time taking Suzume and Chiko to the Infermery.

“What do you want from me?!” Repeated Shinasha, fighting the urge to light up her fists. -“The temper of a firebender.” Replied the man calmly as he unhooded himself and hung his cloak on a hook next to the door. He revealed a bald head and the face of a man in his fifties. He wore a neatly trimmed goatee, but the most prominent feature was the blue-grey arrow tattoo on his head. “Y-you are an airbender…?” Stammered Shinasha, rather astonished to see one in such an outfit. -“I am, although I do not look it. My name is Tetsu.” “What… Why did you follow me here?” Shinasha felt rather uncomfortable, even though the man could not possibly know about her lying about going to the eastern temple. Or did he? -“I followed you longer than that tree where we first met, although you did not notice it.” Shinasha looked him in the eye, not sure what to say to that. -“I was in the same ship as you, although you did not see me.” “The same ship…? But how… Why were you in the fire nation?” -“For the same reason you claim to be. I was traveling. I had run an errand to the western air temple, and then went to visit a good friend of mine in the Fire nation. The war forced me to go back home, as you claimed it did to you, and I heard you come on board as I settled myself in the cabin next to yours.” Shinasha stared at the man, completely lost for words. Not once had she noticed there were any other passengers on board. He smiled at her. -“Worry not, little girl. Or should I call you Miss Norinoko? I will not tell anyone about your identity. In fact, I wish to travel with you to Chameleon Bay. I think I know why you came to the earth kingdom, and perhaps we can be of mutual benefit to eachother?” “How can I possibly help you?” -“Well, if you would let me ride along with you on that ostrich horse you have, it would shorten my journey a great deal.” “And what will you do for me then?” -“I am sure we can work something out by the time we arrive at Chameleon Bay. You should know I DO have an invitation to the Chrysantheum festival. Perhaps I can take you to see some of the outside festivities?” “But outsiders never get into a temple.” Replied Shinasha, this time even more surprised. -“That is true. But not all the festivities take place within the temple complex. A few of the activities have been organized on the plains around and below the temple, and those are open to the public. Very few people ever come there besides the air nomads, but they are not shunned like they are from the air temples.” Shinasha really didn’t know what to do. She would never have dreamed that she could take part in an Air nomad festival, and when she began this journey, she had never dared to hope surprises as these would cross her path. “Pardon my asking…” She started rather carefully, “But don’t air benders usually have a… skybison?” Tetsu bowed his head, and smiled melancholically. -“Indeed, most do. But sadly my companion passed away a few years ago – I may yet tell you the story of it. I have been forced to travel on foot since. But come, that’s a sad tale for sad times. What say you? Will you let me travel with you?” “Y-yeah, sure. You know these lands better than I do.” -“Good, we shall leave in an hour then.” Shinasha finished her meal, and went out to take care of the ostrich horse.
Sunset. The mountain peaks cut through the blood-red sun like jagged teeth. The sky was darkening, and a fog concealed the line between the sky and the mountainpeaks in the west. Shinasha looked at them, and thought of home. “Remembering your family?” The calm voice of Tetsu awoke her from her memories. -“Yeah. Wondering how they are.” “I’m sure they are fine. They should be worrying about you too.” -“They probably are.” Tetsu put some more wood on the fire and looked at Shinasha. -“Why did you run away, if I may be so bold?” “Because…” She hesitated, but decided to tell the truth. “Because my dad wanted me to marry someone.” -“Marriage is a wonderful thing.” Replied Tetsu. Shinasha sighed. “It is, but I din’t want to marry someone I don’t know.” -“I see.” “Do you think I did the wrong thing?” -“That is not for me to decide, young lady. All I can say is that it was not the wisest thing to do, with circumstances as they are, but sometimes the worst actions seem wisest at the time.” Shinasha sighed again, and looked east. “When will we reach Chamelon bay?” -“A few more days, I think. We’ve already passed Gin-Sun, and that’s about two-thirds of the way past the mountains.” Shinasha thought of her parents again, and tried to picture her mom getting ready for bed. She thought of her own bedroom, and smiled when she thought about how she had reacted when she had to sleep under the stars for the first time. It was the night after she had met Tetsu. It had been cold, but luckily Tetsu had given her a blanket. She had lied awake the whole night, hearing strange sounds everywhere. The next night she had protested loudly, and kept going until she found a farm where they could sleep. But during the following week Tetsu had steered clear of any inhabited lands – Shinasha was unsure if he did it on purpose. But she had got used to the sounds and movements around her during the dark hours, and now she didn’t protest much. She unwrapped her blankets and rolled herself into them. She put a dark cloak – she recently bought that in a village- under her head as a pillow, and watched the stars. “Good night, Tetsu.” -“Good night, Ming Yun Huo.” Shinasha smiled. He had called her that ever since they met. She didn’t know what it meant, but she liked it. She would ask him someday. But for now, she fell into a peaceful sleep…

(I am incredibly sorry for not posting here! >< Forgive me! ><)

The day of her father and uncle's departure approached all too quickly. The night before their leave, her household held a feast, full of food (of course), geishas, and dancers. It was really like any other festivity that they had held, except this time, more nobles were invited.
Aoi spent most of the night eating her full and conversing with the other girls her age until she was taken aside by her aunt, Etsuko. She was the wife of Aoi's other uncle, Yuki, and a young but wild beauty. Rumors stuck to her like flies to honey. She let her ebony hair ripple down her back, and she bathed after every meal. Her background was mostly unknown; the only bit of her past that most people were aware of was the fact that she came from a poor family, but of course, the gossipers weren't satisfied. A handful of tales swirled around her; one day she was a bastard child; the next, she was a wanted assasin who was after her husband's gold and life. All the same, Aoi liked her.
Maybe it was because of pity. Since she was from a commoner family, she was treated grudgingly by most other nobles, including Aoi's father. Nonetheless, the thirteen-year-old liked her.
Her aunt smiled, showing two rows of white teeth. "Aoi!" she squeeled with delight, entwining her arms around the young girl before she could do anything. Aoi returned the embrace almost immediately before Etsuko continued, "You look so grown up!"
Aoi beamed, slightly embarrassed. "Thanks," she said. "So how are you?" she added.
"Good!" Etsuko replied. "So what do you think of the war?" Her aunt was still smiling. Aoi shrugged, forcing a smile.
"Eh...not sure," she replied. "I don't know much about it..." The young woman laughed, a musical sound almost.
"Oh, neither do I!" she said. "But I wish I could join." She rubbed her stomach, beaming. "I just found out that I'm with child." Aoi's face lit up.
"Really?! Congratulations!" She hugged her aunt again, giggling. "So, in nine months exactly?" she asked, guessing by Etsuko's flat stomach. Etsuko nodded, grinning.
"Yep," she replied, before adding in a laugh, "But anyways. You should join!" she said. "I know you're young and a girl, but your uncle could easily make an exception for you." Aoi was about to conter by pointing out that fact that she had no firebending abilities, but, before she could say anything, Etsuko interrupted. "I don't want to hear anything about firebending and all that nonsense. You're a good archer and better than you'll admit." Her aunt took a sip of her sake, grinning as she brought the cup to her lips.
Aoi grinned. "No, I'm not that good," she said. Liar, liar. "But I couldn't possibly join," she added. "I wouldn't do that good of a job," she said. Etsuko shook her head.
"Tsk, tsk, Aoi, you're making excuses!" she accused playfully, winking. "Now I'm going to talk to your father and brother about it!" ---
Sorry it's so short! ><

Suzume gasped lungfuls of air shuddered harshly. Her eyes flickered, fluttering like a trapped sparrow's breast, and then opened. She stared into darkness, and smelled a slightly moist odor, along with the flowery scent of some sort of poultice. She felt her body laying under a starched linen sheet. It was almost peaceful... Darkness..the darkness was familiar...
And then she remembered;
The festival.
The war.
Chiko.
The Cart.
Where was she?
These thoughts and more crashed and roared suddenly into her head, much as a conniving tsunami catches its victims unprepared. Chaotic waves of thought, memory, colors, sounds and sights washed over Suzume's consciousness like a vicious gale, tearing and screeching. She was trapped. Cloistered inside her fabric prison. Suzume panicked. She lifted her heavily bandaged hands and cried out. She tore and scrabbled and scratched at her face. Cloth strips fell away in strings. She ripped away her bed covers. She tried to lift her legs, but her right side felt too heavy, somehow.
Her face twisted into an expression of fright. She cried out, not knowing where she was.
A nun in a white wimple pulled back the orange curtain that led to Suzume's room, having heard Suzume's yell. She gasped and put her hand over her mouth. Suzume moaned helplessly. The nun rushed over to Suzume's bedside and hushed the girl. "My child.." she whispered. "We...we did not expect you to awaken so soon."
She brushed back Suzume's hair and smiled. "Hush, now...I must fetch Yasu right away." She turned quickly, her long robes whirling, and almost ran out the doorway.
Suzume's sharp movements had pulled her frozen muscles into action again. Suzume closed her eyes, and willed the shooting pain away. She breathed deeply. Trying to draw her mind's eye away from her hurting body, Suzume tried to remember and think about in detail the thoughts that had ravaged her mind. "Chiko...was Chiko well? The tall monk had been there...and then the voices...What about the war? How long had she been asleep? What about Kimochi? Where was she?.." but Suzume's mind could not compose complex thoughts. She babbled internally, listing phrases and pieces of memory vaguely. Pain coursed through her senses.
She opened her eyes again, only to gaze into the warm chestnut eyes of her friend and mentor, Monk Yasu. "Y-Yasu..." Suzume croaked. The Master held a finger to her lips and pressed a soaking rag to Suzume's lips. "Drink."
Suzume only succeeded in wetting her lips. Yasu squeezed the cloth, and several drops slid down Suzume's parched throat. Suzume coughed, and smelled the stench of her own breath. "Here." Yasu said softly, and placed a yellow, feathery flower inside Suzume's mouth. "Fennel. It will freshen your breath, and help your fever to go down."
Suzume nodded and chewed on the blossoms. Yasu placed the cold towel on Suzume's forehead and pulled a chair next to the pallet. She took Suzume's hand and looked at her concernedly. "Suzume.." she said clearly. "We were not expecting you to wake up from your sleep for a few days...I hadn't been prepared to tell you this yet...
Wh- what?" Suzume asked weakly.
"When you were knocked unconscious by that cart...you landed in a way that..was very awkward. Although you won't remember, you've had a fever for the last couple of days. Suzume smiled faintly. "Here I am." she murmured.
Yasu tried in vain to return the smile. "Suzume..." Suzume looked into Yasu's eyes. "There was a problem when you landed after being hit by that dreadful cart...you see, you landed with your leg bent under you.."
Suzume waited while the nun breathed in slightly, and looked at Suzume tearily.
"Your leg was snapped along the femur. We've tried everything, and we've bound it..But it's likely that there will be some permanent effects."
Suzume opened and closed her mouth, speechless. "What about..my graduation? How will I fight?"
"How long have I been asleep?" Suzume mumbled. "About three days." Yasu replied, trying hard to smile. "But you'll recover before the new year...That's something to be happy about!"
"The celebration of the new year won't be very fun.." Suzume said.
"You'll be healed, though! Besides, why wouldn't you have fun?" Yasu asked.
Suzume wiped her eyes and rubbed her face vigorously. She took a deep breath and laughed half-heartedly.
"I think I've been put off of sweets for life."

Being at sea was rather boring. As much as this mission needed seriousness Riko couldn’t help thinking it probably wouldn’t be worth it in the end. She knew her thoughts were forbidden but it just kept popping up like a burst of flame. She never had friends in other nations before but from what she read they seemed like good people. “Nah, they’d never accept a Firebender as a friend.”
“Madam?”
“Yes, Captain Chen?”
“We’re in Water Tribe Territory.”
“Excellent. By the way, how long have we been at sea?”
“Roughly a month madam.”
“Thank you. You’re dismissed.”
Captain Chen walked off with a sigh. He sensed a battle would soon be brewing its ugly head, but thought nothing more. Meanwhile, as the air around the fleet of metal ships became colder Riko stared off into the sea once more. Ice bergs were everywhere, as well as penguin. Everything just seemed too peaceful, that was a bad sign and her concerns were confirmed when suddenly the water rose and lifted the ship 3 feet off the water.
“What the!?” cried Riko as she grabbed a hold of the railings
“We’re under attack! They’ve got us surrounded!” replied the helmsman
The guards were in position, rushing towards Riko as she frantically assessed the situation.
“Stay back! I can handle this! Tell the crew to hold their fire!”
The guards on board halted at her orders but decided to take cover at either side of Riko as her butterfly knives dangerously glinted as Riko prepared to draw it forth. The other guard scampered off to inform the crew while a dozen or so Waterbenders came on deck.
“What is the meaning of this?” said Riko with a glare fixed on her face
“I could ask you the very same thing Firebender.” Replied a man in his 30’s, most likely a Waterbender and the man in charge
“Very well, there are negotiations to be made by order of the Fire Lord.”
With a smirk Riko handed the man a scroll emblazoned with the symbol of the Fire Nation. Taking it into his gloved hand and breaking the seal he read with interest. After a minute or two he lowered the scroll and gave a smirk as well.
“Alright then, I am sorry for our sudden…intrusion but I must ask you young one.”
“Go ahead.”
“Who is in charge of this fleet? I must take him with me for the negotiations and I am sorry to say that he will be coming alone.”
“What?”
“It is stated quite clearly that the one in charge will be the only one to speak to the chief and so this fleet will be sailing back to Fire Nation shores.”
“I see. Take me to the chief then.”
“Haha, you mean to tell me. That you are in charge of this fleet?”
The guards at Riko’s sides raised their hands ready for combat just as Captain Chen walked forward.
“Sir, she is in charge of this fleet I assure you.”
“Well, I’m glad we got this settled but I must ask you to order your fleet to leave these waters.”
“Captain Chen, please command this fleet back to the Fire Nation.”
That said. Riko was handed her satchel and was taken on board one of the Water Tribe boats. It took mere minutes and for the first time in her life Riko stepped onto Water Tribe shores. The bustling village commotion was stilled as the inhabitants turned to greet their warriors but it would not be like that for long. One villager spotted Riko who clearly stood out from the crowd as she was the only one clad in blazing red and dark black.
“Fire Nation!”
At this cry of recognition the rest of the villagers stared in obvious hatred and some with bewildered expressions. Riko then decided it would be best if she just stared ahead of her to wherever she was being led but at the corner of her eye she spotted the training camp. Many warriors were minding their own business, sharpening their weapons, and practicing their Waterbending. Riko decided the best place to start this surveillance mission would be at the training camp as soon as the talk with the chief was over.

“Tetsu?” -“Yes” “What are they like? The Air temples, I mean?” Tetsu looked at the view below them and smiled. He leaped off the ostrich horse and stood still. Before them was one of the most beautiful views Shinasha had ever seen. Rolling hills subsided into a broad lane of acres and fields, bathing in the sunlight. In the distance below were the contours of a small city, and beyond that were the glistening waters of Chameleon Bay. A steady breeze made the tall grass wave in a fashion much like the sea, and at the shore the green ocean of grass turned almost flawlessly into the blue-green waters of the bay. “They are the most magnificent structures you have ever seen.” Tetsu replied to Shinasha’s question. “They incorporate the beauty of these lands with the peace of the air itself, the strength of the earth, the diversity of the water, and the heart of fire. No words to describe them would do justice, for they are all true yet all fail to meet the real thing. I hope you may see one of the temples in your life, if even from a distance.” Tetsu gazed into the distance, a dreamy expression on his face. The old man inhaled deeply and closing his eyes, as if he was trying to taste the air and remember it. Shinasha smiled. She’d never met a person who could speak so passionately. Over the past few weeks she had talked a lot with the monk. Even though she had been cautious about her words, Tetsu had always spoken openly about anything Shinasha asked, and in a strange way Shinasha had come to like the man and appreciate his often outlandish ways. Tetsu started walking down-hill, towards the village. Shinasha followed on her ostrich horse, which didn’t seem to mind the fact that it had been carrying two riders for weeks now. Soon they found themselves among the houses of the city, and Tetsu headed straight for the harbour. “How long does it take to get across the water to the temple?” -“Well, that depends.” Shinasha was slightly surprised. “On what?” -“How long the messenger hawk needs, and then how long it takes to send someone.” “What do you mean?” -“I mean that we won’t be sailing. Airnomads have no ships, and very few earth kingdom ships sail to the eastern air temple. I will have to send a messenger hawk to the temple, and wait for someone to come and pick us up.” -“Oh…” “Don’t worry, it is usually no longer than a week’s wait. Now where was that… Ah.” Tetsu suddenly turned left, into a narrow alley. He then reached another street, and went into a shop. Not a minute later he returned with a messenger hawk with a note attached to its leg. He threw the hawk up into the air, and it flew off to the south-east. Shinasha stood in silence for a while. “Now what?” -“Now, we find a place to stay for a while.”
Two days later a messenger hawk came to the eastern air-temple, among a few others. It carried a simple request of picking up two people – one of which was a firebender – up from Tan-Kon…

Aoi slept until noon before a servant scurried into her room and woke her, telling her that she was summoned to the welcoming room.
As soon as the maid left, the thirteen-year-old dressed and brushed her hair quickly before hurrying to the welcoming room, where she found her father, her uncle Tatsuo, her uncle Yuki, her aunt Etsuko, and Ichiro, a small mountain of supplies behind them. She performed a clumsy curtsy before asking,
"Do you leave now?" Her uncle, Yuki, nodded, and her father cleared his throat.
“Aoi,” he began. “We would like you to join in the war. We’ve sent a message to an army official, but it’s likely he won’t receive it for a few weeks.” She remained silent, head lowered and face shrouded by the shadow of her ebony hair.
“What made you want this?” she questioned. Etsuko smiled.
“I convinced them of it,” she answered. “You are young and female; Aoi, but the army can make an exception for our family.”
“What about our estate?” she inquired. “Who will take care of it?” Etsuko’s grin spread across her face even more as her uncle Yuki answered,
“My wife, Etsuko will.” Ah…so that’s what she’s after… she mused ominously.
Aoi cleared her throat, looking up at her family. “When do I leave?”
“Tomorrow,” her uncle Tatsuo answered. “You will bring this letter with you and show it to the man signing you up, who will point you in the right direction from there.” She nodded.
From there, they bid their farewells. Eventually, the women ended up crying; even Ichiro sniffled and wiped a way a few tears from his face, but they said good-bye nonetheless and the three men, her father, her uncle Tatsuo, and her uncle Yuki, left.
Aoi avoided Ichiro and Etsuko for the most part that day. She wandered around aimlessly, passing the time by reading and practicing with her broad swords and bow. Eventually, evening came, but instead of going inside when the air grew cold, she invited Ichiro to the pond.
When they got there, he grinned, knowing her thoughts. He rolled up his pant legs immediately and slid his feet into the liquid, and she followed his example.
They swished their legs around for awhile, talking and laughing as they watched the day wane.
Rays of sunlight gently graced the vibrant sky as the sun dipped lower into horizon, sinking below the earth. Fingers of crimson, orange and lavender were stretching across the heavens, eventually becoming darker further towards the east, as little puffs of clouds lined with peach gradually began to drift away. Ribbons of silky air caressed her skin, toying with her ebony hair, which she had released from its confinements of a bun. Ichiro’s laughter filled the air, and she felt content as she laughed with him.
Eventually, silence rang throughout her ears as they hushed, taking in the view before them. The sun had set, and darkness had come upon the earth.
“Hey, look!” Aoi exclaimed. She had spotted, to her delight, a firefly. It floated around aimlessly, and she stood up as it began to drift away. Ichiro grinned.
“Let’s try to catch some fireflies!” he suggested. So they did. The two children darted around the pond, catching lightning bugs with cupped hands until it was late at night, and they were forced to go inside.
Aoi didn’t sleep at all. She read haikus and played with her hair, but not once did she drift off into slumber.
She couldn’t.
On her dresser sat the scroll she was supposed to give to the man to sign her up. Walking up to it, she opened it delicately and read it.
Miss Aoi is to be part of the Blue Dragon Archer Division and no other. She is to be under special circumstances and not to socialize herself with the men. She is to have her own tent, and the servants travelling with her must be permitted to pass and aid her for personal necessities. Higurashi Tatsuo
Folding the scroll, she set it down. Great...
She snuffed out her candle and laid down, not drifting off to sleep anytime soon.

((I know what I'm doing, and it will go somewhere. Tang might be guilty; but that's your choice, anyway. If the need really arises, I'll edit the section and re-do it.))

Kasei looked around rather boredly, the youth was rather tired and the training they were doing at the moment was boring. They were sadly now stuck on a ship, and had been for a couple of days.
Kasei officially deicded he wasn't a ship person, that was why of course he was Fire Nation he thought to himself. He didn't really get sick, but he hated being trapped on a metal area with nnot so much to do.
