Name:[/u] Ritz Kisa
Age:[/u] 20 at the time of the events of ATLA.
Gender:[/u] Male
Nation:[/u] Earth
Bender?:[/u] No.
Appearance:[/u] Starting with hair color. Because Ritz spends most of his time outdoors and often in the sun, his hair has been lightened to a fairly light brown. It falls all the way down his back to his waist and is often tied back in a ponytail. His skin is deeply tanned, again from spending so much time outdoors. His eyes are a very pale green and tend to seem distant and dreaming even when he is talking to someone.
Ritz is 5’10 and very slightly on the skinny side. He runs long distances daily both and so his body is fairly strong. His dress includes a dark green mildly torn long-sleeve shirt which he wears most everywhere. He has not really tight and yet not quite baggy black pants which he will often roll up to the knees in hot weather. These are also slightly roughed up.
At his right hip is a sheathed dagger of a special make which he calls a Sword breaker. His left arm is equipped with a bracer with short blunt spiked used not for attacking but to prevent blades from sliding along the bracer to his arm or hand. Across his back he has strapped a thin round iron shield with no markings save those from combat along with a broken spear which is now only a third as long as it should be.
Personality:[/u] Some would call Ritz a dreamer, not in the sense that he has lofty dreams, but just in the sense that he daydreams a lot. He not very emotional, but in a very aloof and drifty way. He is often found staring blankly at the sky as if trying to discern some kind of great secret that it holds. He is generally a good person, often helping people in towns with small tasks just because he can.
Ritz has an abnormal fascination with running. He loves to run, runs often, and runs very large distances. He can seemingly run endlessly, and he rarely becomes tired as a result of this. His lungs, heart, and body in general are very fit from all of this. Not necessarily very strong, but very fit.
He hates sleeping indoors. It’s not really a phobia, it’s just a personal preference. He prefers to lay his back against a tree and stare up at the stars as they drift in the heavens. He may even have a little bit of cloud envy. This often breaks into his daily life. He tends to drift out of conversations, especially with more than one person, and find himself staring at the sky or off into the distance.
History:[/u] Since he was about thirteen Ritz has been wandering. Before that he lived with an earth kingdom family in a small northern farming village. They adopted him when he was found by other villagers in the forest. Ritz has no memory of his life before he was found that day at the age of eight. He has only the second half of his father’s diary and his father’s Sword Breaker dagger.
In the farming village he spent most of his time helping his new family, consisting of two parents and their six children, with farm duties. Ritz was never lazy, but he would often be caught stopped in the middle of a task staring blankly at the sky. He set two goals for himself at a young age: fight the fire nation and find the rest of his father’s diary, if not his father. At ten he began to practice with the Sword breaker, learning how to effectively employ its unique notched blade. At thirteen he left his new home for the army, but he was not cut out for it. His tendency to daydream in the middle of tasks eventually got him kicked out. Instead of returning home, however, he set out to journey the earth kingdom in search of his original family and the diary. Still possessing the inborn hate of the fire nation, he raided fire nation camps when he came across them. He rarely got into fights. Instead he snuck in to steal food and money from them. The few fights he did pick were usually with small groups of fire nation soldiers and only if he could gather other local mercenaries.
For six years Ritz made a living doing odd tasks in villages he came across, raiding fire nation camps, and traveling the earth kingdom in search of anyone who might know of his family. At twenty, Ritz has become a master at using the Sword Breaker. Though it is ineffective against spears, arches, and really any other type of weapon, almost no kind of sword can long avoid the devastating notches in his dagger.
Nowadays Ritz is basically wandering. He fights when need be and he purchases only what he needs with the money he steals from the fire nation and gets from villagers in exchange for odd tasks. He sleeps under trees or in fields. He spends a great deal of time asking after his father and the missing first half of the diary his father apparently left him. He’s read it through several times and can find no hint about where his father is now or for that matter what his own life was like before he lost his memory.
