Name: Shao Tang, nickednamed 'Kindle'
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Nation: Fire Nation
Bender: Yes. His skills are better than average but still nothing to gasp at.
Appearance: He wears plain black light amour, throughout all the year. Down his left side hangs a bottle of sake (a highly alcoholic beverage) mostly used to add power to his firebending, and sometimes to warm him up. He has seemingly black eyes; this affect is achieved by the fact that he only has an enlarged pupil, and the effect has been known to frighten people. His black hair was worn in a cropped military style until he was trapped in the territories not taken by the Fire Nation (See history) so he let it grow so his fire nation upbringing wouldn't be so conspicuous. While quite fit, there are signs that he used to be plump.
Shao's face is often contorted in a superior sneer ever since he had to leave the Fire nation, and the expression only changes when he meets someone who is A: an fellow countryman B: someone he likes or C: someone he wants to confidence trick.
History: Shao was born into a noble family called the Tangs, who where seemingly fanatically loyal to the cause of the war. Shao was born nearly 19 years before the Avatar became unfrozen. For unspecified reasons, he was handed over from his parents to his Uncle and Aunt whose skill at bringing up children left Shao with a sharp, quick and stubborn mind, a talent for firebending and martial arts and a belief of the Fire nation’s superiority over other nations.
Shao was trained from an early age, like in most noble families from the Fire nation. His teacher was one of the best money could buy, and under his skilled teaching Shao became better at firebending and martial arts and had his belief of the fire nations su and right to rule reinforced. His Uncle and Aunt were careful to keep him from straying to the city streets and seeing faults in the Fire nations own system. Slowly, it became Shao's ambition to join the army and 'liberate' the rest of the world from their own countries tyrannical rule and place them under the rule of the fire nation.
Near his 19th birthday, Shao went to the earth continent with his parents, Uncle and Aunt to join the Fire army there to help fight against the newly retrieved Avatar. His parents went off to the market to 'see the sights' and, minutes later, the recruiting barracks exploded from a joint firebending attack. Shao survived by being in the recruiting office next door, protected by the thick walls. His parents managed to escape.
In a quick briefing later, an officer explained to Shao that his parents were on the list of suspects to being agents for the enemy, and that that was the reason why he was reared by his Uncle and Aunt. He was also told that to join the army, he had to hunt down and kill his parents.
Unknown to Shao, this was a ploy by the officer to stop Shao joining the army (as his firebending skills still weren't advanced enough) without offending the Tangs.
So Shao set of after his parents (while undercover), with no knowledge of their position but that they had gone near the coast edge. His honor and ambition rested on killing them.
To rely on money, Shao took a small amount of gold from the Tang fortunes, relying on conning his way for the rest.
Personality: Shao's personality traits are balanced: he is kind, intelligent and charming, but also superior, arrogant and stubborn. He believes that people who don't belong to the Fire Nation are crude, gullible and dumb, and that this is not the people's fault, but their governments, and that that is why the Fire Nation need to occupy the nations, and help these people rise to their rightful place.
For every generous donation to a beggar, an impromptu lesson on their nation’s decadence is delivered. For every charming remark, a superior thought comes unbidden into his mind. For all his intelligence, he is too stubborn to accept that his nation can be wrong.
Shao is also very hypocritical; if the Fire nation tries to invade another country, it is for their own good: if another nation tries the same, they are tyrannical despots.
Authors note: If anything here is unrealistic, please tell me. That’s all, and thanks for taking the time to read up to here.
