Name: Akira
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Nation: Fire (Currently on the run though)
Bender?: Yes -- Student level
Appearance: Akira can be described as looking somewhat boyish and short, probably around 4'5". Her face is plain, with the exception of her eyes which are a beautiful golden color. Other than that, she doesn't have much going for her in the way of looks and could easily be mistaken for a boy if the person addressing her didn't look hard enough. Her birthmark is barely visible on her right shoulder.
She wears a plain, sleevless greenish-grey tunic with some slight freying, and brown leather pants. She doesn't wear any shoes since her old pair wore out a long time ago. On her head she wears a red bandana, which covers her short, black hair. On her back she wears a leather backpack containing a variety of scrolls, food, medical supplies, and a variety of other things. Her weapon is a bo staff.
Personality: Akira is intelligent and somewhat cunning. In sticky situations she is more likely to use her wits instead of resorting to brute force to solve the problem, and rarely uses her firebending.
Akira is not attention-craving in nature, but is quite an eloquent speaker when it is needed. She gets offended if people refer to her height as a negative, or if they make fun of her name.
Akira still feels enormous amounts of guilt for leaving her parents behind, believing it to be her own fault that they were captured in the first place. She knows in her heart, that her parents are probably dead.
History: Akira was born the only child of a Fire Nation general and the daughter of a high-ranking government official; Her father was a firebending master while her mother often stayed at home to care for her.. She was named after her uncle, who died a year before her birth. As a young child she often idol-worshipped her father to the point of imitating everything he did the few days where he had enough time to spend with his family. Her behavior amused him enormously, he even called Akira his 'Little Soldier.' Her mother was against this and often nagged at her husband to stop encouraging her. He seemed set on annoying his wife though, as he began teaching Akira how to use a bo staff at when she was seven.
As Akira grew older and entered school, her personality seemed to start to change. She began taking more interest in learning and reading, rather than the militaristic life her father lead, Still, this greatly pleased both her parents and made her a favorite of her schoolmaster. Akira was not popular amongst other students though, not only because she was a 'Teacher's Pet' but because of her height and the fact that she had a name usually given to boys. She dealt with this by learning to utilize her wits to trick the other children into letting her go, usually through the use of simple traps, and persuading them to let her go. If that didn't work, 'running really fast' was always an option . Akira did not have very many friends, and the only person she truly trusted was her father. Her mother just didn't seem to understand.
One day, about two years ago, her parents were sent a documentation stating that both were charged with High Treason against the Fire Lord and must come with their child the next day to recieve sentencing. They both knew very well the penalty for High Treason was death. After that, they both finally told their daughter that they were the leader's of a underground movement to help refugees escape into Ba Sing Sei.
"If our country is so great, then why do we do acts so unforgivable and horrid? We kill thousands of men, women and children while our own people gorge off of the profits of war. I was always taught as a child that citizens not from our own Fire Nation were swine, but now I know that through our actions, we are the ones who are swine" were the words she remembered most from what her father told her that day.
That night, the family packed only what they needed and attempted to flee the Fire Nation capital. So far it went smoothly until they were confronted by a group of Fire Nation soldier, holding an arrest warrant for the entire family. "Akira, your mother and I may not get out of this alive. There is a secret path in the forest, they won't be able to follow you there. Take Yajuu, he knows the path even better than I do. Always remember though, I love you." was her father's last words to her before placing her on the large Komodo Rhino and sending her towards the hidden forest path. The last glimpse of he parents she was the sight of her father being brought drown, and her defenseless mother being literally dragged back to the capital, probably to be executed.
The poor Komodo Rhino didn't stop until it reached a the docks where a ship was scheduled to shove off that afternoon. There it died from heat exhaustion. Akira had just enough time to hide the corpse of the rhino and stow away on the ship, hiding in the cargo area in a small crate. When she reached the Earth Kingdom, she cut her topknot and dressed in the rags of an Earth Kingdom peasant, a disguise given to her by her father before they tried to escape.
Now, she is a lone wanderer, stopping from town to town to restock on supplies, and usually camping out in the middle of nowhere when she needs sleep. She earns money to pay for supplies by doing odd jobs in every village she stops in, if she can find one.
((I'll be happy to change any aspects of her profile on request.))
