Yes, I would like to get some advice on this character? I know he needs some work, but maybe you all here on this board could hurry that along. Please tell me if there needs to be improvement!
Name: Tai
Age: 31
Gender: Male
Nationality: Southern Air Temple
Bending Level: Master/ teacher
Appearance: Tai wears an orange robe as is the custom of the airbending monks. He finds these a hinder when it comes to his airbending, however, and sometimes is found wearing light, yellow pants tucked into the common, tall brown boots. He also wears a light yellow shirt and a kind of modified version of the cape common among the airbending students. It is not as long and can be tucked into two bands worn on each of his forearms. He wears a brown sash/belt in which he often carries around his set of paintbrushes and charcoal.
He has a long, pleasant face that is slightly plump. He is tall, though, and very gangly with long slender fingers and large wide hands. Tai has darker grey eyes and a wide mouth. He has a faint scar on his wrist from where he once cut himself while fishing with his father. He has a long torso and long slender legs. He stands at about 6 feet and weighs about 175 pounds.
Personality: Tai can sometimes be…odd. He loves to read; anything from history and poems, to fiction and bending scrolls, he will read just about anything you place in front of him. Though he may seem at first a quiet and calm fellow, once you mention a subject of his interest, it is hard to get him to shut up. However, most of the time, he is shy and serene.
Tai doesn’t have very many close friends. He prefers to stay inside and play solitary games or, of course, read in his temple’s vast library when he has the spare time. However, whenever he gets the chance, he often travels to the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation; always alone of course. He is also a skilled painter and loves to paint landscapes; one of his great reasons for traveling is that he likes the change in scenery.
Tai has never loved anyone in his life except for his female flying bison named Kaju and his pet bird, Lin. They are his sole companions in his travels.
History: Tai was born on a small island near the Southern Air Temple to a fisherman and his humble wife. He was brought up by the sea and has never lost his love for it. He had an uneventful childhood; he was healthy, had many friends, played in the water, and lived in safety.
That all changed rapidly when he was seven; he was playing a game of tag with several of the older boys and he was losing. Badly. So when he was It, he got angry that he couldn’t catch any of the boys. He stopped and pouted and made a fuss just like any other child would do. The older children made fun of him until he got so mad that he started chasing them once more. And he began to run. In fact, he ran so fast that he passed every single one of the older boys; and then some.
He never told his parents that he ran like the wind, but they later found out he was an airbender anyway because he got a cold a few days later. He sneezed. Both of his parents debated back and forth whether they should take him to the temple to become an airbending student; he was their only child after all. But when he nearly blew the roof off of their one-story house, the matter was decided. The next week Tai and his father took the small fishing boat to the Southern Air Temple. Sending a message by bird, they were able to contact one of the airbending monks. Tai was quickly taken in and his old life as he knew it had disappeared forever.
Tai was one of the few Airbenders who were not born at the temple. Because of this, he found it hard to make friends since many of the students there had spent most of their lives together. He felt very alone and isolated. Since he did not spend time with the other students, he devoted himself completely to his airbending studies. His teacher, pleased with such a raw and unyielding talent, often spent many extra hours with Tai in order to further his education in airbending. He advanced well for his age, repeatedly doing better than almost all of his fellow peers.
It was a short time before he started his second level of training that he acquired his air bison, Kaju. They were immediately bonded and from then on, Tai spent any and all of his spare time with her. Because he wasn’t close to the other students, Tai would spend hours flying with her, talking to her, and sitting with her in silence.
Tai spent much of his life as such until he was thirty. It was a few days after his birthday that he was approached by his airbending teacher who informed him that there was not much more that they were able to teach him. He would be tested vigorously and, if he passed, he would be given the rank of master and would receive his tattoos. Nervous, but excited, Tai passed each test with some difficulty. The next day, he got his blue arrow marks and has since then been a teacher at the temple. As a present, his old master gave him a furry, white bird that was considered fairly rare; named Lin.
One may be interested to know that Tai has had an unusual reaction to the ink from the tattoos. His skin is allergic to it. Ever since he got his tattoos a year ago, his skin has been itching considerably and has never really ceased. He has tried creams, lotions, potions, and as many herbs as there are stars but not a single one has worked for more than an hour or so. The one thing that works the best is sage. The itching affects his head the most, so every morning he rubs sage on his head and all over his body to make the itching less irritating. His students have dubbed him “Scratch” because that is what he is always doing; scratching. He also always carries the faint, but not unpleasant, smell of sage.
