Awww, sweet song. The trailer reinstated my belief that Zuko's a emotional mess. He's blaming Iroh now when the person he needs the most is Iroh (second is his mother). I should probably be hating Zuko right now since Iroh is my third favorite character, but I don't. How many times have you all been a total jerk to people you are close to? Zuko's being an idiot, but we're all idiots at times. The important thing is that he learns from his mistake and is nicer to Iroh later.

Somehow, though, it seems like Zuko has been given so many chances to prove himself... I think he should do some major groveling...I'd like to see that...I really would...

Zomg. Nandireya! You think like I do! <3 That is one of the Hoobastank songs I like, and I always put it as a Zuko/Iroh song. Speaking of songs, I acutally stumbled across a song today while watching AMV's, that works almost perfectly for Zuko and Iroh! It is Avril Lavigne's 'I Will Be'. Here are the lyrics, this time I'll copy and paste them, cause I wanna. XD;
There’s nothing I can say to you Nothing I could ever do to make you see What you mean to me All the pain the tears they cry Still you never said goodbye and now I know how far you’d go I know I let you down but its not like that now This time I’ll never let you go
I will be all that you want and get my self together Cause you keep me from falling apart All my life I’ll be with you forever To get you through the day and make every thing OK
I thought that I had every thing I didn’t know what life could bring But now I see honestly You're the one thing I got right The only one I let inside Now I can breath cause your here with me And if I let you down I’ll turn it all around Cause I would never let you go
I will be all that you want and get my self together Cause you keep me from falling apart All my life I’ll be with you forever To get you through the day and make every thing OK
Cause with out you I can’t sleep I’m not gonna ever ever let you leave You’re all I got You’re all I want Yeah And with out you I don’t know what I’ll do I could never ever live a day with out you Hear with me do you see your all I need
And I will be all that you want and get my self together Cause you keep me from falling apart All my life (my life) I will be with you forever To get you through the day and make every thing OK
I will be (I’ll be) all that you want and get my self together Cause you keep me from falling apart And all my life you know I will be with you forever To get you through the day and make every thing OK
The Italic'd lyrics would sorta be from Iroh's point of view. This just sorta was screaming at me...'Zuko/Iroh Song!Zuko/Iroh Song!' And I muuuuust agree. Yessss...

The lyrics to these songs make me tear up! Yes, another one to work well the the Zuko/Iroh thing. One song that I have always liked for the pair is "Saving Me" from Nickelback. I always see the two in my head when I hear it.

My Funny Friend and Me from Disney's The Emperor's New Groove is a good one too...
In the quiet time of evening When the stars assume their patterns And the day has made his journey And we wondered just what happened To the life we knew before the world changed When not a thing I held was true
But you were kind to me and you reminded me That the world is not my playground There are other things that matter And when a simple needs protecting My illusions all would shatter But you stayed in my corner When the only world I knew was upside down And now the world and me, I know you carry me
You see the patterns in the big sky Those constellations look like you and I Just like the patterns in the big sky We could be lost we could refuse to try But we made it through in the dark night Who would those lucky guys turn out to be But that unusual blend of my funny friend and me
I'm not as clever as I thought I was I'm not the boy I used to be because You showed me something different, you showed me something pure I always seemed so certain but I was really never sure But you stayed and you called my name When others would have walked out on a lousy game And you could've made it through But your funny friend and...
You see the patterns in the big sky Those constellations look like you and I That tiny planet in a bigger guy I don't know whether I should laugh or cry
Just like the patterns in the big sky We'll be together ‘til the end is nigh Don't know the answer or the reason why We'll stick together till the day we die
If I had to do this all a second time I won't complain or make a fuss When the angels sing that that unlikely blend Are those two funny friends That's us

Nandireya, I think we're sharing a brain, because that is exactly what I think of that song everytime I hear it <3 But I bet none of you guys would think of this song, because trust me...it's like the perfect song for them. And I smack myself for not posting the lyrics sooner. The song is called 'Do I Make You Proud?' by Taylor Hicks:
I've never been The one to raise my hand That was not me And now that's who I am Because of you I am standing tall My heart is full Of endless gratitude You were the one The one to guide me through Now I can see And I believe It's only just beginning
This is what we dream about But the only question with me now Is do I make you proud Stronger than I've ever been now Never been afraid of standing out Do I make you proud
I guess I've learned To question is to grow, That you still have faith, Is all I need to know, I've learned to love, My selfish part of me, And I've learned to Walk on the road I believe.
Everybody needs to rise up Everybody needs to be loved To be loved Everybody need to rise on Everybody needs to be loved, to be loved
This is what we dream about But the only question with me now Is do I make you, do I make you proud This is what we dream about

*pulls thread up* Must...keep...this...alive! XD Anyway, why does everyone expect Zuko to free Iroh at one point? I mean, I know he redeems, but...still...I don't think Zuko freeing Iroh is possible. >.>

Why do you think that? I think Zuko will free Iroh, I mean...the whole bond between them isn't broken yet. I think Zuko will come to his senses soon enough. From watching the trailer many times, they panned to Iroh from a birds eye view. And went up and showed something that sorta looked an air vent. Perhaps, and this is streaching it beyond everything. But being that I have faith in them both, and I'm passing into my blinded stage. Perhaps...what Zuko said...was acted? Like the guards were there, or someone was listening, and he had to say it?
Such as he was acting jerky on Iroh's behalf in that comic from the newest Avatar magazine. The gaurds were there, and he had no choice but to talk badly. Those were Azula's gaurds, and if he let anything slip...then they would think something was up. And besides, Zuko looked rather upset when he was speaking harshly on Iroh. In the comic and the trailer. Any reason why you think that Zuko won't free Iroh?

The bond is pretty much the same in a weird way...
As yiceman and I have pointed out in the Spoilers forum...the pair have betrayed each other. Iroh sided with Aang against Zuko (and his entire nation) and Zuko sided with Azula against Iroh (yes, Azula was right about Iroh being a betrayer)...but only Zuko gets flack for it! At least we saw Zuko feeling bad about it...and now that we can see his face when he's saying those harsh words to Iroh he looks more upset than angry. We only saw Iroh disappointment in Zuko's choice, we never saw him feel guilty about betraying Zuko...

I think Iroh needs to realize that Zuko's choice was in a way, common sense. He joined Azula who claimed would bring him home, which is all he's really ever wanted. He owed nothing to Aang (who gave him some dirty looks a few scenes back) and sees him as a threat to his country (which he's always been loyal to). Zuko was probably completely confused and hurt when Iroh sided with Aang and co.

BUT if guards ARE listening in on those two, then I doubt they won't notice Zuko breaking Iroh out, unless that picture of someone being slammed against a wall is of Zuko fighting a guard so Iroh can get out of there....and if Zuko broke Iroh out, wouldn't Azula suspect Zuko? He's not that great at lying (you saw how he was with Jin and Song!).

He'll go back to Iroh soon enough.

I was listening to various playlists on my iPod while I was heading up the coast on my little mini-vacation...and I stumbled across the Once More With Feeling Soundtrack (a musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for those who don't know)...and when I heard Giles' song I just thought how much it fit the Zuko/Iroh relationship as it is now...
You're not ready for the world outside You keep pretending but you just can't hide I know I said that I’d be standing by your side But I…
Your path's unbeaten and it's all uphill And you can meet it but you never will And I’m the reason that you're standing still But I…
I wish I could say the right words to lead you through this land Wish I could play the father and take you by the hand Wish I could stay here, but now I understand I’m standing in the way
The cries around you, you don't hear at all 'Cause you know I’m here to take that call So you just lie there when you should be standing tall But I…
I wish I could lay your arms down and let you rest at last Wish I could slay your demons but now that time has passed Wish I could stay here, you’re stalwart, standing fast But I'm standing in the way I’m just standing In the way
Like Giles...I think Iroh will realise it's time for him to stand back and let Zuko sink or swim on his own...

Horay for being a penguin!! I love Iroh and Zuko! What's not to love? Angsty teen and his adorable old uncle? Favorite Zuko/Iroh moment, at the end of The Chase when Azula (skunk!) hit Iroh and Zuko's reaction. I cried, that was just so intense. (I also like in bitter work right after that when Iroh tries Zuko's tea ) So i read this ENTIRE thread before posting so I might comment on some things that happened a few pages back (sorry!). About Iroh's major personality change from the ruthless general to the kind (adorable!) old man. Well the turning point was Lu Ten's death. I think he finally got a taste of what he had been doing to the families of the other nations. I think that he realized that he was the same as all of the fathers who had lost sons in the war in the earth nation or the water tribes. I think this is when he started studying the other nations (as he talked about doing in bitter work). I bet Iroh felt like he was invincible, considering he was a great general and fire lord to be. But Lu Ten dying/ozai taking the thrown killed his pride, and slowly he began to heal and the result was the wise Iroh we have now. He and zuko are just too similar. They both lost the people who mattered most in their lives. They both had ambitious horrible younger siblings. They both were raised with the burden of knowing they would be the firelord. And they both had that taken away from them by a cruel twist of fate. Iroh is the perfect man for Zuko to look up to because Iroh has dealt with exactly what zuko is going through. When Zuko realizes he made the wrong choice, I'm sure Iroh will forgive him. And i think that Iroh's trip to the spirit world was him seeing all the people he's killed and all the damage he's done. I'm almost positive that Zuko is going to realize his mistakes and redeem himself. I don't think they would have developed his character and his and Iroh's relationship so much if he didn't end up on the right side in the end. In the end I see Aang killing ozai and Iroh becoming firelord. Zuko being next in line of course. I don't think that Zuko is ready to be firelord honestly. I know he's probably supposed to be 18ish? Still a little young. He needs some time to live a normal life. And I think that ending a war would be too much. I think Iroh would be better for that job. I still am very skeptical about Zuko coming home with his honor. I think that Zuko is going to get a whiff of a plot to get rid of him/kill him and then realize that his uncle was right all along. About the Iroh being Zuko's father theory. It's interesting but I really don't believe it. When Iroh says "Things in our family are not always what they seem," I think he's referring to Azulon "dying". And I think he's afraid something like that will happen to Zuko like I said in the above paragraph. I think that if Iroh were his father it would kill the firelord's image. He is portayed as an evil, horrible, cold person. If we find out that his reason for hating zuko/getting rid of his wife/dethrowning his brother was all because of some crazy affair then it would make his past a little understandable. It would even create the smallest bit of pity for the man we are supposed to hate more then anyone!! It would be a crazy twist but I don't see it happening. There were a couple of other things I wanted to write but I can't think of them now. I'll post again tomorrow if I think of them. Oh yea! Here's what I see happening in "The Runaway" Zuko realizes that he's in danger/ isn't happy (one or the other). So he decides to leave and find his mother. He goes to Iroh's cell and this is the scene we see in the trailer where he's speaking to Iroh through the bars. I think he's tries to justify his actions before he leaves because he won't see Iroh again, and he doesn't want Iroh to remember him only for the betrayel. Then the scene of Zuko taking his swords and leaving is him running away (making him the runaway [or one of them atleast]) That same night Aang leaves Katara, Sokka and Toph (making him the second runaway). He rescues Iroh (making him the THIRD runaway) because Iroh is his only chance to learn firebending with a teacher. Aang knows Iroh is on their side and he knows Iroh is probably the strongest firebender alive (I think he's way more bamf then Ozai and azula). So what happens when the royal family wakes up the next morning? Iroh is gone... Zuko is gone... what are they going to think? Zuko of course. Zuko becomes an enemy of the fire nation once more. And if that rumor going around of Azula making posters of Zuko saying "Wanted Dead" is true then at the last shot of the episode i think we'll see a shot of the first poster going up and the scary azula music comes on. Then the credits. So was that really far fetched? You can tell me if it was. christ that was a long post.
