Well, this is my fanfic, my first one in like 5, 6 months, lol, Its Zutara, but the progression of a relationship between them, is a bit slow, and for good reasons you'll find out later, and not only that, I think thats how this relationship should be.
This was inspired by Alice Sebold's novel "The Lovely Bones" so heres the first three chapters of my fanfic, since all of them are short...
~Spirit:Chapter 1~
Ever since she was a small child Katara had heard tales of what happened to the spirits of dead people after they had died or been killed. But out of all of them, she liked to believe her Gran-Gran and Father's story. They said that when a spirit left its body, it went to a place called "Heaven" not the Spirit World like some believed. When spirits leave their bodies, her Dad had explained, they touch someone. Literally brush past someone on their way up to Heaven. Most of the time this has significant meaning, rarely does it not.
Stories like this would lead someone to wonder.... who they would touch when their time came. Katara pondered this every day, of course she found out sooner than she thought she would.
Her death came quick, she was taken away from her friends by a summer fever and constant worry.
She felt him, before she saw him, her white hand brushed against his smooth cheek, and the rough skin of his scar. Katara looked as she went, Zuko seemed... confused, he shook his head and rubbed his eyes as if waking from a dream. As it was she was confused. What possible meaning could her encounter with Zuko have?
During her later days in heaven, she watched Zuko.
The summer fever took his Uncle. Katara saw Iroh in Heaven and wondered who he had touched. She continued to watch Zuko.... he was sharpening a knife.... he wasn't depressed enough to commit suicide was he? Apparently he was, he did.
"My nephew will be joining us soon." Katara heard Iroh say.
Zuko did, Katara saw him, she sighed.
Finally some answers to her questions.....
~Spirit:Chapter 2~
As soon as Zuko had shown, Katara had fled down one of the many golden pathways of Heaven.
Her mind was reeling. What would Zuko say when he saw her here? What would he do? Katara collapsed to her knees after running for a good mile, but not because she was out of breath, she couldn't breath, but because violent thoughts overtook her mind.
"Theres never violence in Heaven, there is only peace in Heaven."
Katara repeated this to herself over and over trying to convince herself it was true.
Really she had no idea what Heaven was like, only her Gran-Gran and Father's stories. But how valid were those anyway? They'd never been dead! She felt like crying or sobbing but she couldn't, just like she would never take another breath again.
"Katara." a gentle voice called.
Katara stood and turned around, one of "Heaven's Council" was speaking to her. Heavens Council controlled all the comings and goings etc of Heaven.
"Melinda, hello, what brings you here?" Katara asked, happy to see a friendly face, after her dangerous thoughts.
She smiled,"Your mother, shes heard of your arrival, and she'd like very much to see you, Katara, come with me." she took Katara's arm and led her down another one of the golden pathways.
Katara was numb, her mind was screaming,"MOM!"
~Spirit:Chapter3~
Katara had run into her Mother's open arms when she'd seen her.
"Katara," she said now.
It was so good to hear her voice again, after all these years. The exact sound of it had faded to the back of Katara's mind, she'd almost forgotten it.
"Mom, its so good to see you!" Katara would've cried.... but here in Heaven she couldn't.
"Oh, sweetie, how... why are you here?" she asked looking her daughter over.
"I died because of a summer fever, Mom." Katara replied.
The fever had made her feel horrible and lifeless everyday, it had made her wish she could just break painfully free of the fever....or die. It felt very odd to say out loud "I died" though.
"Oh, baby." her mother hugged her.
After the sad stories of what happened at her own death, Katara's mother was questioning of what had happened, even though Katara knew she'd been watching.
Katara told her every last detail, except for the Zuko part, she didn't want her mom to know about him for some reason she couldn't fathom.
It didn't matter, her mother knew, she'd seen him.
"Who was that scarred boy who was chasing you?" her mother asked, her face lit up with a smile,"an admirer?"
"Hardly, he was our enemy, chased us around the entire world trying to get Aang." Katara replied.
Her mother nodded,"Its just, he reminds me of someone I once knew...."
