Yeah...it could be...but Yue said they learned by watching the moon...I don't think the fishy La had anything to do with it...

The fish is the moon spirit, so......
fish = moon? I mean, if the fish is harmed, the moon goes red, and if it is killed, the moon goes away. So It's kind of a p/i thing.

Yes...but Yue said they learned waterbending by watching the moon...not by watching a fish chasing another fish in an itty-bitty pond. Even if the fish was the physical embodiment of the moon spirit, they still learned by watching the lifeless hunk of rock in the sky.
Man! These posters are just for fun...I shouldn't have to justify them.

Im mostly trying to keep the animal thing going because that's what bothers me about bending origin... all of them are from animals but water? What? Why didn't firebending come from meditating on the sun anyway?

Well...staring at the sun is a good way to go blind...but waterbending could have been passed on by the unagi or something...a big, scary seas serpent so all the bending disciplines could have an awe inspiring mascot.
But I was going with the facts as presented in the show...I said I thought they got a bum deal.

Actually there is a real-world form of meditation that consists of staring at the sun (but like all advanced meditative practices, you need a proper guru to teach it to you or blindness is imminent) but like how Pathik eats onions, it's apparently something that the creators never thought to look into it (though I have a very strange ATLA world-building plot bunny bit which uses it...)
Either way you look at it, it just doesn't make sense.
