I'll take it easy when I want to. I do not like it when people brag about something with facts everyone knows. I'm not a golden retriever expert because I know that they normally grow bigger than yorkshire terriers.
I think that maybe only people from the EK have last names/

Christ this thread's still around? This has got to be my longest running forum thread, bar none. >_>
Well for the "discussion" at hand. I would say that Toph would most likely (or would like to) end up with Sokka. I mean she's been giving out a few not-so-subtle hints in the series. Of course this is with the Suki factor notwithstanding.

As much as I like Toph and Sokka being together(it's really the only ship I like), I only have one problem with it: Toph just seems to be too young for him.
I know we've dicussed the age thing many times, but how many guys out here at he age of 15/16 would really be interested in a 12 yr old. She's just a little girl and he's becomming an adult. Really that is my only problem with it, honest. I truely think that they look adorable to together, and it's cute how protective he is of her, but remember he was like that with his sister too.
As for Toph, I seriously cannot wait to see her in the final battle. I think she will be underestimated, and will thoroughly kick butt!!!! I cannot wait to see how she pays Zuko back, and how well she works together with him.

Okay... I don't want to get into a whole discussion over the age difference but my personal opinion (which I've said about a thousand times so be patient if you've heard it already) is that Toph is and has been an adult for a while. Depending on a child's upbringing they can mature in completely different ways. [get ready for the rant]
Toph was hidden for 12 years of her life. Imagine a life where your parents don't want anyone to see you because you're blind. She didn't have the love from her parents that she deserved. And then she realized that she had this incredible power and had the responsibility of hiding it from her family for who knows how long. The fact that she grew up without any love or nurturing and had to control her strength and skills as an earthbender must have forced maturity onto her from a young age. If she didn't have a certain level of maturity then she wouldn't have been able to handle the things she did.
Sokka obviously had some of his own traumas as a child. His mother died when he was young and then his father left forcing him to take on the responsibility of the other men who had left the tribe. But he had a nurturing grandmother and his sister, as he has stated to Toph, is as close to a mother as he could get. Toph has stated to Katara that her mother never cared for the "real" Toph, the way that Katara does.
Sokka had a father who he knew loved him even though he was not there. He also had a sister and grandmother who loved him. Toph virtually grew up on her own learning anyway she could and always knowing the fact that her parents were too ashamed of having a blind daughter to let her out of the house. This is partly where she gets her incredible strength from and also where I believe she is more of an adult then Sokka and maybe even Katara. True Toph can be very wild and irresponsible but I think that it's because she has never had the chance to do that before.
To end my rant, Toph (in my opinion) is an adult, something I'm not sure I could say about Sokka. THEREFORE Toph is not a little girl.

Don't mean to start a fight, but some of ya need therapy. Or maybe just have a daughter of your own. I'm sorry, but I just think this sends the wrong message to out youth. Age DOES in fact matter, as well as maturity. Even 200 yrs ago there were age restrictions on dating and marriage. I don't want to think of myself as old fashioned, but jeez. I'm just thinking about the 16 yr olds I work with and go to school with, to them 12 yr olds are just kids and none of them would even think about dating one. One of my friends found out the hard way, age does really matter, and I will never forget the lesson she learned.
I guess I'll say what my dad always told me when we argued about this stuff:
When you have kids, you'll understand. I'm already starting to understand. And he was right(most of the time). Would your parents allow you as a 12 yr old to date a 15/16 yr old boy/girl? If you answer yes, then maybe your parent should be in therapy as well.
I don't mean to start a fight here, I'm just stating my opinion,(and yes it's a very strong and rigid one) and I know I'm gonna start one. I apologize if I offend anyone, but this is something that I feel very strongly about, for reasons I cannot devulge.

@dragonfly: Hahaha you're not starting an argument, only a discussion. Avatar is not set in modern times and there was a time when it was completely appropriate to marry a 14 year-old girl to a 35 year-old man or maybe even older. It was not unheard of and in fact very common. This story is obviously not set in such an extreme time period but it is definetly not meant to be the same standard as 2007. And even in our modern lives a 4 year age difference is not anything to scoff at. I'm 15, and 3 years ago one of my best friends as a seventh grader had a crush on the guitarist in her band (at the time in 11th grade... literally the exact ages of Toph and Sokka, 12 and 16). When she was in eigth grade and he was in 12th he admitted that he really liked her but made sure that he kept their relationship very very very tame, as dorky as it sounds he was a real gentlemen. Now she's a sophomore in high school and he's a sophomore in college and they've been togethor for 2 years and are probably the happiest couple I've ever seen, and you might not believe it but they've only kissed because he respects her that much. Her parents are fine with it (in fact her parents love him!). I think it's fine for Sokka to have feelings for Toph so long as they keep the relationship appropriate for their age (like my friends did). And the appropriateness for their age is completely different then it is in our world. For instance Yue was engaged at 15... Yes I know she is royalty so it's different but Toph is part of a rich noble family so plausibly Toph could be married off in 3 or 4 years. I completely respect your opinion but I don't think your basing it off of the situation and the lifestyle of the avatar world. My parents personally wouldn't let me date a 16-year old but they don't let me date period (but what they don't know can't hurt em ) But my friend finding her boyfriend (who was four years older then her) is honestly the best thing that's ever happened to her. She's so happy with him and she's already told me that she thinks he's the person she wants to spend the rest of her life with... and this is in OUR time, not avatar world time which has completely different morals when it comes to marriage. Do I still need therapy? I probably do either way XD Edit: Also my music teacher dated a 16-year old when he was 25... and 5 years later she was his wife. Keep in mind that was the 50's but Avatar culture is still far less modern then the 50's.

I like that thought zerg! And nice Bitter Work reference there You're completely right that what Toph and all of the kids have been through is more then most grown men have to face and has sort of forced them to become adults in 12-16 year old bodies. That on top of Toph's strange childhood makes her far far far more mature then a 12-year old.

Keep in mind that was the 50's but Avatar culture is still far less modern then the 50's. Well, I'm happy for them! Let me know in a few yrs how it worked out for them! Sorry but both of your stories personally made me sick. I understand that Avatar isn't set in the present, I was merely stating that it doesn't project the best of moral standards for today's youth. And your stories prove that. Both girls are at way diffenent places in thier lives than the boys, if these relationships last for much more than a yr, I'd be surprised. It doesn't have much to do with maturity, it has alot to do with LIFE. I would also like to point out that people didn't live to be as old as we are today, so yes they married early. Avatar doesn't portray that well at all. I guess I have very high morals, and the parents of both girls should be locked up. I will also state that the likely hood of your 12 yr old friend not having sex with this boy are about slim to none, keeping quite about it is only to prevent him getting into trouble. Twelve yr olds do not know what love is; heck I'm 18 and thought I was in love twice, I was wrong! I'm really not sure anyone really knows what love is, but how can you say it's love when you've never experienced that kind of companionship before, can't, my friend is doing the same stupid thing, although her friend's warnings have fallen on deaf ears, she's learning the hard way. Her parents are nuts (unless they don't know, which would make it seem that she knows she's doing something wrong), and the teacher should be ashamed of himself. There is nothing a 25 yr old man can have in common with a 16 yr old girl except one thing.......don't think I need to say it. Like I said I have very high morals and 12 yr olds dating period is wrong to me. Teenagers dating men/women 9+ yrs older than them is wrong. There is no need ot start relationships this early, enjoy being a kid, growing up sucks!!!!!!Why do all you kids want to grow up so fast? Do you really think it's as great as you think? My final word on this subject is simply this to all those who don't see the problem with age: I feel sorry for you, your future relationships, and your future children. Although I do hope that when you do become parents, you'll have a huge change of heart about the subject, especially when it's your 12 yr old daughter dating a 16 yr old boy.(We all know where teenage boy minds are! ) Your opinion is yours, and mine is mine. And yes I do feel strongly about the subject, it's personal and moral for me. Enjoy being a young teenager, have fun, don't grow up too fast. I did and I regret every second!!!!

Dragonfly: My friend isn't 12 now she's fifteen and believe me, she'd tell me if they had sex. I've asked her if they'd done anything other then kissing and she was grossed out beyond belief. You don't know her so I wouldn't suspect you to understand her and her boyfriends relationship. They don't even kiss in public and yet they're in love. The girl who was 16 and my teacher who was 25 never slept togethor because at that time it would be considered outragouesly dirty to do that before marriage. I'm kind of upset you say that my best friends relationship makes you sick considering... well she's my best friend and I'm good friends with him too.
If I were a mother I would not let my 12 year old daughter date a 15 year old. But mothers aren't always right in their decisions.
