I figured that since I wrote a mini-essay on Azula for the Sokkla thread, I'd just post it here. Tell me what y'all think.
First, I don't really consider Azula evil. I feel that in her world, it's more Nurture over Nature. She's naturally gifted, driven, cunning, and intelligent- she can't help that. However, being born in the Fire Nation and being Fire Nation royalty set her coarse from Day One. Ursa, I feel, earnestly tried to set her on the right path- kind, thoughtful, and with a high set of morals as she did with Zuko. With Zuko, I get the feeling that Ursa never was really for the war (she just didn't go against it) when she told him "Never forget who you are". Deep down she knew that who Zuko truly was wasn't what the Fire nation was, so that gives me a clue.
Coming off of my rant, Azula is made of awesome. She's a deep, interesting character with a lot going for her- she's smart enough to lie, quick enough to keep track of them, and wise enough to know how to use them (which is why I don't think she lies all of the time; she just happens to know how to twist words). I think she knows exactly what she's doing, what's coming, and what's happening- no surprises for her, which is both a good and bad thing. However, she's so steeped into Fire Nation politics and words that it kind of deters her from doing what needs to be done.
Her weak point is not doing what needs to be done for herself. She does everything for everybody else, but I don't think she truly knows what she wants. She's so on this mentality of "Well, it's for the good of [insert name here], but it's never for "Well, it's for the good of me." On one hand, when or if she turns to the side of light, that'll serve her well. Generous, which is what Ursa always wanted for her. Right now, though, it's kind of sad.
Yep.

Deep down she knew that who Zuko truly was wasn't what the Fire nation was, so that gives me a clue. Intresting...I do think that Azula has got some of her personality traits from Ursa, and her her personlaity is more like Ursa's and Zuko is like Ozai. Also, I agree with you on the nurture over nature point. However, until we see more of Ozai and Ursa it's kinda hard to really see how Azula was raised by her parents. When or if Zuko finds Ursa, we will finaly get to Azula's POV on her mother, plus how she was raised by Ursa. Another thing that I would like to point out is that in "Zuko alone" whenever she teased Zuko, because of Ursa's teachings she knew what she was doing was wrong. I definitly think that Ursa was doing a good job in raising Azula. Coming off of my rant, Azula is made of awesome. She's a deep, interesting character with a lot going for her- she's smart enough to lie, quick enough to keep track of them, and wise enough to know how to use them (which is why I don't think she lies all of the time; she just happens to know how to twist words). I never noticed that about Azula. If I rember right, in GOZ's thread there was a scan with Azula saying something about she won't let far father down. Combine that with her naming Omashu new Ozai in honor of her father and quotes like these: "We've done it Zuko. It's taken a hundred years, but the Fire Nation has conquered Ba Sing Se." "Why don't you let him decide, Uncle? I need you Zuko. I've plotted every move of this day. This glorious day in Fire Nation history. And the only way we win is together. At the end of this day, you will have your honor back. You will have your father's love. You will have everything you want." "And there is no more "Omashu". I'm renaming it in honor of my father, the City of New Ozai." I think you may be on to something..

Lets say Ther is news about Ursa being spotted or something and Zuko goes to look for her. Do you think that Azula will be with Zuko and also look for Ursa? This is something I have been wondering for some time now. I think it would be a nice way for Azula to develop if it happens like that.

Huh.... I never thought of that... Would she? I mean, she didn't really seem to care when she left. Unless she knows what happened, or was told. I don't know...

Hmm...It's a pretty hard question to answer since we have not seen Azula's relationship with Ursa. Maybe she knows and understands why Ursa had to leave, so she didn't really have a huge reaction.

Maybe... I mean it did seem as if she was one of the last to talk to her. Maybe she told Ursa what she told Zuko, about their father. And it's not like Azula hated her mother. She obeyed her for the most part... was just maybe a little outspoken at times lol

When she said mother has disapeared did she have that smile?

You haven't seen it? Well go watch it! lol, I'll send it to you or something
I don't think she was smirking.
Zuko came out and said "where's Mom"
she looked away and said lightly "no one knows" then she looks back at him and says "oh and last night grandpa passed away."
He says "Not funny Azula. you're sick and I want my knife back." He reaches for it, she jumps out of the way and says mockingly "Who's gonna make me? Mom?"
then he grabs it from her and goes and finds his dad.
