He's probabley going to return. Remember he said to Appa, "I will see you again". So he's going to come back. And what do you think the message was that he tied to Appa's horn? I think that it was something about Air Benders I'm guessing that the message is very important, and it will end up in the hands of the Dai Li.

Also-more Indian looking than Chinese, don't you think? The Avatar world has more than one race. It's based on Asia, which is made up of more than China. It's a big continent with all sorts of people on it, of all shapes and sizes and colors. It's not unusual for Guru Pathik to not look "Chinese." And considering he's a guru, which I don't think is really a Chinese occupation, it only makes sense that he'd look more Indian/Pakistani/Tibetan. (Forgive me, I am not an expert on guessing people's origins based on appearences.) Gurus are found in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism - so he could be from almost anywhere in east asia (since Buddhism is practiced as far away from India as Japan, and Hinduism is practiced as far away from India as Cambodia). But judging by his accent, and the Sitar music that played in the background when he spoke, he is obiously meant to be kinda 'Indian' ;D And he was an awesome charecter - I cant wait for 'The Guru'. I wonder what connection he has to the avatar? Is he an airbender? Did he know the avatar? Which nation is he from? What bending does he do? Considering the spirit world has things from Indian legend like the monkey who was meditating, and this Guru does, maybe they are connected?

This guy rocked so hard...
Had to get that in there.
The Guru seemed to like Aang, and the monkey was very rude to him. I think he's from the Fire Nation, but has severed all ties with all nations to be fully at peace. I don't think he's a bender, because it would be nice to have a good character who DOESN'T bend, who's religious/spiritual.

I'm hoping that Guru not only helps Aang out in his quest but also helps him restore the Air bending by setting up a new group of airbenders.
As for the clothing thing, my guess is that Jet wears red as part of his patriotic red, white, and blue color scheme he wears as a "Freedom" fighter.

I agree that the guru seems more 'indian' than far-eastern ethnicity-wise.
I also am skeptical that he's a bender. I almost more think his area of focus is going to be the 'strings' between everything and likely the spirit world - something like what the swamp man was talking about. I'd guess the spirit world is instrumental in the ties between people and nature and the like.

I visited Ellora, and saw a fantastic temple, and learnt that the entire thing had been carved out of a single massive rock, First off - That's awesome. The wonders of Anicent Engineering. No one would ever attempt that today.. but wow. That is amazing. Absolutely beautiful. Secondly, not sure if it's been pointed out or noticed yet.. but Guru Pathik wears Yellow and Green, Earth Kingdom Colors. www.avatarspirit.net/images/screenshots/216/516.jpgSo we can at least assume he's from the Earth Kingdom if the color=nation theory works out. Of course, there is always room for exceptions. Jet's clothes for example.

I was wondering if he will help Aang find his teacher considering he can locate and sense strings between people. He maybe from the fire nation and in disguise like Zuko. He could be a surviving airbender, but judging that the eastern air temple was women's only, I doubt this. He may even be a firebender which would be VERY cool, but also very unlikely. He is a guru and a hindu one at that, perhaps with buddhist undertones. Judge for yourself.
