Yay, Iroh! Iroh has more morals. And stuff. Ozai hasn't even been seen fighting, but Iroh's just awesome. Iroh might not even want to be Fire Lord, though... Really, who'd want to rule a nation when a simple life of tea is available?

^Azula likely inherited her Firebending prowess from Grandfather Azulon, as both of them are / were prodigies. After two seasons, the series has yet to claim prodigal status for Iroh or Ozai. Azula was declared a prodigy before she was officially introduced, so I'm apt to think it means something.
How can we gauge the abilities of someone we've never seen fight? If we're to believe The Lost Scrolls, the scarring of Zuko's face during the Agni Kai is nothing unusual... thus, not a good indicator of strength.

I voted for Ozai, even though we can't really know for sure. My reason for believing this stems from the episode "The Guru." There's this whole mystique about Ozai, this sense of fear and power, that he really does scare Aang s***less. There's been this whole purpose to the show, Defeat the Fire Lord, Defeat the Fire Lord, that's been drilled into Aang's head and ours. Personally, I wouldn't be too worried about Aang defeating a guy like Iroh, I think with enough determination and training he could take him.
But there's just this huge ominous feeling about Ozai that has me worried. I really think that he is the stronger of the two, if only because he's younger. Yes, we've seen old people still remain very strong, like Bumi, but the difference between Bumi and Iroh is pretty obvious. Bumi has a rockin' six pack, and Iroh has a pot belly. Clearly, Iroh doesn't age as well.
Someone also mentioned that Ozai wasn't sent to fight in Ba Sing Se like Iroh, but how do we know if Ozai was even in the military? No one has ever referred to him as a general or admiral or anything like that. He may have chosen to remain at home and perfect his firebending skills, while becoming more of a politician than a general, preparing himself to take the throne.

I think that if Azulon was confident of Ozai's skills he would have made him go to war. Being in the family that started the war, wouldn't you want you children to support any effort being made? It just seems strange to me not to have your most powerful people on the war front, that's all. You know aces in thier places. Azulon seemed to be very proud of Iroh, he didn't seem so proud of Ozai. Imo

Firstly whey hey I totally agree wit chu ;D The bit bout ozai not being a general or anything...... Iroh is clearly a leader of men if he aint all super powerful he makes up for it by being able to command a battle field........ Mybe Ozai isn't good at the whole leading armies and winning wars.......That is why I think he is more of an assain type fighter or special force unit....... I think he was separate to the military a kind of secet wepon type thing........ (what a romantic image of him ;D)

Thanks, admirality. To answer your theory, dragonfly, you wouldn't send your son into war if he had never been trained as a general. For all we know, Ozai never studied military strategies like Iroh and never went into the army, and, like I said before, spent his entire life studying politics instead.
Even if that wasn't true, even if Ozai was in the military, there's still another explanation. Azulon may have just favored Iroh because he liked him more. Iroh was his first born, and second born children have a lot to live up to because of their siblings, especialy with an age gap like Ozai's and Iroh's. Ozai might have been the stronger firebender, and he became furious when his father still favored Iroh. That may be why Ozai hates Zuko so much and loves Azula, because she's the more talented second born, like him.
And, while Iroh is probably a better general than Ozai, I doubt he's a better fighter. But in a war, you're going to send your best general, not the best fighter. The person in charge has to know what he's doing. And how often do generals fight on the frontlines anyway? We never saw Zhao fighting in SotN until he went to kill the Moon Spirit.

@demonof the West: Azula was trained for military stuff and I'm sure Zuko had at least started, but then was banished before finishing school. It seems that all royaltiy is trained for this. Even if he wasn't trained to be a General, he was probably trained in something. What I'm trying to say is that he shouldn't have been milling around the palace, he should have been on the battlefield like his older brother. However, if Azulon was not confident with his capabilties as a fighter he could have kept him home as not to embarass the Royal family.
I can't recall who said it, but maybe Ozai is like Zuko, overshadowed by the prodigous sibling. Anything's possible.

We don't know anything about Ozai, but I still think Iroh would win.

I'm neutral on this cause while we have seen what Ozai can do...we haven't seen something destructive that I think Iroh is capable of.

It's hard to say, we haven't seen Ozai bend, besides breathing fire. I don't know why but I have a feeling Iroh is though.
