I personally think that Iroh could beat Ozai in a one on one battle.

We have yet to see what Ozai is capable of. Though we do know how powerful Iroh is that he was sent by Azulon to conquer Ba Sing Se and not send Ozai. Azulon must've known that to conquer Ba Sing Se you need a powerful and inteligent strategist, hence he would end up sending Iroh, not Ozai. Also, in the flashbacks, we know that Iroh has been conquering other places in the name of the Fire Nation. While, Ozai is in the Royal Palace and not doing anything at all.
This to me shows that Iroh in the eyes of Azulon is more powerful than Ozai. Also, Iroh is a great Master Firebender, hence, he made up a new technique.

We've never seen Ozai fight, so there's no way to judge.

I think Ozai is way WAY STRONGER......... If Iroh is really that strong he wud've beat Ozai up to take the hrone..... Iroh don't have the guts to take Ozai on he knows Mr Macho (Ozai) will beat the living dayligths outta him........ But I'm so bias it's unbelieveable so really my opionion don't count..............

(ofcourse admirality would pick ozai)

Iroh is definatley the stronger of the two, even though we've never really seem the extent of ozai's bending, I sorta get the feel that ozai is alot like zuko in a sense, overshadowed by a prodigious sibling. That would explain why ozai had no remorse for taking the throne from iroh and calling him a coward when he was in the depths of despair.

It's impossible to say...the only bending we know Ozai's done is to melt half his son's face off...and Zuko wasn't even putting up a fight when he did that.
If they're equal in their bending, or close to it, and it came to a fight between them, I'd think Ozai would have a slight edge...he's younger, more ruthless, and, I'm guessing, less honourable when it comes to beating up on his brother...I don't see him as fighting entirely fairly...he'd do what he has to do to win.

Ozai is the firelord, so he would have to be very powerful. Iroh got beaten by Azula, so it is probable that Ozai would hacve been able to defeat him too. Iroh still rocks of course.

^^^Exactly when did Azula beat Iroh? I don't recall that at all, unless your talking about The Chase and I wouldn't so much call that beating him as I do a cheap shot.
I voted for Iroh. I agree with nandireya, the only thing we have seen Ozai so is burn Zuko and that is really not impressive. Someone on another thread brought up a good point: If the Firelord is to be a supurb firebender, is it possible that Azulon was so opposed to Ozai taking the throne simply because he knew that Iroh was simply stronger and a better man for the job? Maybe it's not that Iroh was the favored child but maybe because he was the more powerful of the two that Azulon was so adiment about Iroh getting the throne. Not that I like to admit it, but Ozai was right, Iroh's bloodline was broken and that seems to be a big thing with these kinds of King and Queen run countries even today. Iroh was trusted to go to battle and take over cities in the Fire Nation's name, but Ozai was home. There has to be a reason for it(although I would love to think it was simply because Ozai is a lazy piece of crap). I entertained the thought of keeping him home in case Iroh died, but if Iroh was so powerful and amazing, and Ozai was just as powerful, wouldn't you want your stongest men on the battlefield? And there were grandchildren there to take over if they died. After reading this it just seems like there had to be a different reason for Ozai being home.
Just sticking it in there. It made me think a bit and alot of it makes sense, at least to me.

If Iroh had become Fire Lord, with Lu Ten dead, Ozai would have been second in line. If Ozai is stronger he could just have easily taken out Iroh instead of Azulon. In going after his father, that might indicate that Ozai did indeed fear his brother's power...but more likely he just wanted to be Fire Lord NOW and the elderly Azulon was the easier target.

Have we forgotten that Iroh was mourning LU TEN DEATH! Honestly, the man lost his son................. if it were me................ I wouldn't even been thinking about being Fire Lord or bloodlines. I would be thinking about my son. Use common sense people.
