I agree, I was a little upset when I thought they were going to answer one of the biggest questions from ATLA casually in the first couple of minutes. I really hope, they don't just drop the issue though. I just hope that it is presented in a way that doesn't make it seem out of place in the series. I will always at heart have wished they would have done a concluding season dealing with the aftermath of the war... ;; even just a mini one to answer the mystery of what happened to Ursa, the founding of Republic City, and other things. The war with the Fire Nation didn't just end and everyone agree to get along so easily, you know? But regardless, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this series. I think it has a lot of potential. edit: I think it would be kind of cool if they did a "flashback" episode to let us see what actually happened and not just let us "hear" the story, if that makes sense. I don't know if or where that would fit in the storyline, but I think it would give a nice sense of closure - at least for me - in regards to that storyline, and give it from the perspectives of the old characters. avatar.wikia.com/wiki/The_Promise_Part_1

Any one else notice the advancement in technology? So far i saw, electricity, radio, cameras with flash, and cars. That's some really advanced technology compared to the first series. I'm guessing the electricity mostly comes from coal fire plants since that's what the fuel of choice was for the fire nation. It wouldn't be too far of a stretch if they had telephones too. Did anyone NOT notice it? Someone else also questioned the existence of guns... It would make sense that they don't exist since it's still a cartoon and all, but it doesn't make sense that electricity was founded before gunpowder. but then again, guns would make the whole Avatar universe upside-down. Anyway, I also felt that the show was a good "continuation" to TLA. In TLA, we see Aang learning/mastering Fire, Earth and Water. In TLOK, Korra starts off as a master of all the elements except Air. So pretty good that throughout the whole Avatar journey we get to see how benders practice all the elements.

WAIT A MINUTE...
Who are those dudes on Air Temple Island in monk robes? (Scene where Korra asks about White Lotus Sentries)
Non-Bender Air Nomads?

I loved the episode. Tenzin's kids are hilarious!! My only complaint is with the way they capture the pro-bending. I don't like that it captures the beginning and ending of each move and the facial expressions of the characters; this is a lot more like traditional anime, but I really enjoyed the way they captured bending in the old series with more zoomed out views. I get what you mean, but well, probably cos probending is sort of like MMA, with quick punches and kicks, nothing fancy like "traditional" martial art bending. Maybe the screenplay writer didn't see a need to focus on the motion itself (compared to the elaborate bending movements from the original series) Also, maybe it's just me...but does anyone else wonder when the probenders "tire out" (compared to the first series where fights could go on for pretty long)? is it just to quicken the pace of the show or maybe it's cos MMA-style bending is more tiresome than tradiontal bending (more physically draining than spiritual)? I think the latter.

Well I got a feeling there'll be a love triangle thing that eventually develops (seeing as the series is going for a slightly more mature theme).
I love how Tenzin is a mentor figure to Korra. We lacked that for Aang, I guess Roku counts but he wasn't a permanent fixture. I felt that the 2 episodes really showcased the changing of theme from a bunch of kids on an adventure to a more "young adult" theme. With adult teachers and villains as well as realistic figure behaviours. pretty brilliant!

BOLIN'S TOTALLY GONNA GET FRIENDZONED BY KORRA I CAN ALREADY SEE IT
Other than that, pro-bending really got me excited (I was skeptical about the whole bending sport/MMA bending thing)
(anyone else thinks the probending area looks Inidan-inspired?)

[Wow first post in almost 3 years]
What a great introduction to the new series! I think the new series is a great reflection of how our world would be like if integrated with bending (inequality, pro-bending, etc..).
Not sure how I feel about the change in the Avatar world with technology though (electricity, cars, radios). Doesn't feel the same, the Avatar world is always a rural place in my mind, but it would be nice to see a change I suppose.

I would rather be true to the race of the animated show, and besides, there are no African or Arabic people in Avatar either. Actually I think the Sandbenders were sort of Arabic, no? Then there's Pathik..but he's Indian..
