Aw man, I miss this show... it was so long ago, and I almost completely forgot about it... I do remember thinking when I was young that the designs were rather like that of Disney's.....

There are lots of cartoons that lose their appeal when you go to watch them again as an adult - luckily Animaniacs is not one of them. I've already picked up the first two dvds and will gladly buy any others that come out afterwards. This show had so many good things going for it - an awesome vocal cast, great writing and a winning combination of subtle, clever humour and appealing visual gags. It took so many digs at everything that even I don't know all the references. The music was also very good as well - not just the singing (although it was always a delight to hear the characters singing) but the background music as well. Animaniacs is, I think, the only show of its time to actually have their music performed by an actual orchestra that was hired specifically for the show. The quality of the music is much better than that of many other cartoons of the day and on par with many of the top notch live action shows nowadays. The show was also a winner because it relied on an ensemble cast - although characters like the Warners were pretty much guaranteed at least one story per episode, the rest of the stories rotated among the other cast members. I had my own favourites among them and some that I didn't personally enjoy all that much, but at least with their method, it was highly unlikely that someone would have to sit through an entire episode centered around characters they didn't like. Last but not least, I admit to having some bias towards liking Animaniacs because one of the characters (Yakko, who is my undisputed favourite from the show) was voiced by the venerable Rob Paulson, who just happens to be one of my very favourite voice actors and an all-around great guy. Edit: Here's one of my favourite songs that wasn't included on your list. Sadly, after the first airing, they edited it to take out the mentions of the Los Angeles earthquake and didn't play the original version again. They even did an altered version for the DVD. Interestingly enough, the version on Youtube is the original. youtube.com/watch?v=wVEWQiioO-4I especially love songs sung by Yakko - he tends to get a lot of the more 'sly' humour. I love his glibness and the ease he has with twisting words. "Whose fault, whose fault? The San Andreas' fault. Cause Mr Richter can't predict her kicking our asphalt".

@ Growly: Man I can't believe I forgot that song. Another song I wanted to include but couldn't find was the song where they sing the ingredients of a candy bar. Rob Paulson is my hero mainly because after all these years he can still do this: youtube.com/watch?v=6WC-AG5vigIYeah but Yakko is a lot funnier now that I'm older. There was so many hilarious comebacks and one liners I'd missed when I watched it as a kid. It just proves that the show was written with both kids and adults in mind. Man you don't get kid shows like these anymore.

Aww, I love the Animaniacs. <333
A while ago I picked up the DVDs mainly for nostalgia purposes but I really enjoyed the show beyond that. The music was great (not only because the songs are catchy but because, like Growly said, they used an actual orchestra), the character were loveable, and it had humor for adults and children. The fact that parents could watch it along with their kids is probably what I like most about the show and it’s kinda sad that isn’t the case these days.

Oh man, I loved the Animaniacs! I remember two episodes very clearly: --The one where the bald doctor (forgot his name) is in the driver's seat of a car, and Yakko, Wakko, and Dot, are in the back seats. Wakko's makes a song using only one note. --Yakko, Wakko, and Dot are playing hide and seek in the water tower, and Wakko is the one who has to find Yakko and Dot. A clown (on the mayor's orders) constantly comes to the water tower, and Wakko tries to get rid of him.
Ah, good time, good times.

Ahh! I used to love this show.
Two of my friends and I used to call eachother by animaniacs names.
The girly girl was Dot. The tall friend was Yakko. And I was Wakko because I was tomboyish (so I could be a boy), and I ate a lot, and because I was short.
But my secret favorite was always Yakko... so sad I couldn't have been taller. TT_TT
Ah, good times. So many people we used to bother like the Animaniacs bothered Dr. Scratch 'n' Sniff.

"Wheel of Morality, turn turn turn, tell us the lesson we should learn" I found a compilation on youtube that showed all the "Good Idea, Bad Idea" skits too. It amused me.

That would be Buttons and Mindy. Poor Buttons, he could never catch a break.
I really liked the Rita and Runt segments - Bernadette Peters was the voice of Rita.
