"YAY! I can spell!" ~ Um...you spelled "conscience" wrong. xD
But there is no plot in Danny Phantom, whereas in Avatar, there is. Yeah, I do see parallels in character, but there is more depth in Aang than there is in Danny. What you just described there was both Danny's personality and persona -- the voice of the person whom he brings across; however, Aang has depth, as I mentioned before. We're able to see someone mature more than any 14- or 15-year-old kid ever does. Because Aang is the Avatar, the sole hope for the survival of the world, he does have a lot of responsibility and he comes to accept that responsibility and ensure the safety and protection of the people whom he loves, particularly Katara, whom he will give up in order to master the Avatar State. Furthermore, the budding romance that ensued between the two has been seen as almost a plot device in order to have Aang have yet another ulterior motive to master the elements and defeat the Fire Lord, as well. Danny's romance for Sam is just another diversion.

There's really no need, as I see it, to compare the two shows. Of course Avatar is better. I think it's better than most shows on TV, animated or live action. It's better than alot of shows that are better than Danny Phantom. But I also think Danny Phantom is better than alot of shows, including shows I like. (I tend to put shows on tiers in my head, and Avatar would be tier 1, while DP is a mid-level tier, say 4 out of 7 or 8 tiers, and mind you, tier 8 isn't suck, it's just like, shows I only like a little bit. But I digress.)
As for plot... I think you're confusing that with serialized story telling. Avatar is a serial, as are things like Babylon 5, Heroes, Lost, etc. Serialized shows are popular recently, but even they are somewhat episodic. In fact most shows have both serial and episodic elements, it's just that some are more serial (but the majority of shows are more episodic). But even the shows that are more episodic can have continuity, can have plot development over the course of the series. And I think DP has more of that than most episodic shows do. You may not notice it in every episode, but often enough things do come up that wouldn't make sense unless you'd seen a prior episode that introduced it. It's not the kind of show where everything is exactly the same at the end as it is at the start and developments don't carry over to future episodes. Because they do carry over. No as much as in Avatar, of course, but if every show were the same, it'd get old.
Of course, I think all art, be it TV, movies, music, books, paintings, whatever, is subjective. Some people will like something that someone else doesn't, and neither person is right or wrong. You just like what you like, and there's little point in asking someone to explain why they like it. One could say "it's cute" or "it's funny" or "it's dramatic" or "it's romantic" or whatever else, but all these things are one person's opinion, and the other could disagree with each statement. And like I said, neither person would be wrong.
