Zukaang is meant to be, even Mike and Bryan said that the romance was "part of the DNA" of the show (they never really mentioned which ship mind you), and every argument of proof and destiny between zutara and kataang works with zukaang. XD Go Zukaang!! jillrg - The comments made on that page are so true. I agree. That TV Tropes thing is awesome There's so much subtle-gay in this show XD

I think this page explains the romantic angle of this ship very well. LOL, yes it does. Maybe not how I'd like to see the romantic angle actually play out (a trust filled relationship with building attraction FTW) but it defiantly describes the subtext. Zukaang is meant to be, even Mike and Bryan said that the romance was "part of the DNA" of the show (they never really mentioned which ship mind you) Well, actually they did. When they were talking romance being in the DNA of the show they also said "Yeah, Aang-Katara, that romance." Regardless, Zukkang may not have been planned from the beginning but their relationship certainly was. With all the constant parallels and whatnot, it was obvious Zuko and Aang are destined to be at least BFFs.

I mean, every hero in a heroic trio has a love interest and a best friend. Katara fills the love interest role, but neither Sokka nor Toph fit The Best Friend role. Enter Zuko.

It's like Yugi and Seto Kaiba |D Um... I would have to say, no. Kaiba and Yugi never became as close or friendly as Aang and Zuko by FBM . Kaiba's writers never dorkified him like what happened to poor Zuko. He's always stayed a cocky, arrogant jerk who is proud of being angsty and stoic. Plus his greatest obsession is the Blue-Eyes White Dragon... who is a girl... or was in a past life. I can't compare Zukaang to anything because I've never been a fan of slash pairings before them.

Kaiba and Yugi did hit an awkward friendship stage at some point. (I used to follow YGO religiously.) That's something that always bothered me about Zuko's character. Yeah, he is socially awkward, but the fact he's turning into a total dork is such a drastic contrast from how he was in the beginning. Sure, the reasons "he's changed", "he knows better now", blah blah blah. But if you watch the whole series in a straight shot, you pick up a rift between Book 2 and Book 3 with him. Book 1 molded into Book 2 quite well. But then we hit Book 3 and it was OMG CHANGES. Hm. I like their relationship though, I really do.

Like you said, every hero must have a love interest and best friend. Aang and Zuko already have their love interests (though I obviously wouldn’t complain if they became each other’s) and, if they would get over their past bad encounters, they would be the perfect best friends. That's something that always bothered me about Zuko's character. Yeah, he is socially awkward, but the fact he's turning into a total dork is such a drastic contrast from how he was in the beginning. Well, no, I’ve always thought Zuko was a dork. I mean, way back in "The Warriors of Kyoshi" Iroh tries to eat his good and Zuko goes all the way back into the room and screams "I was going to save it for later!". That seems like a pretty dorky thing to me. Besides, Zuko realising his inner dork more now works to our advantage because Aang has been showing off his charms more.

That was more socially awkward, I'm still bad arse royalty despite being banished for almost three years!Zuko. XD I'm not saying it's bad writing, but there is a noticable difference. You know, if Zuko and Aang hooked up that'd solve a lot of problems.

Yeah, and I don't think it's fair that little Aang gets to become cooler while Zuko's development consists of "embracing hsi inner dork." It's the plight of all loners in fiction who join the heroic group . I was hoping Avatar would be different. I miss the original stoic, brooding Zuko. Why do such characters always have to be villains?

On the whole dork issue, I think thats what makes me love Zuko so much. He can be goofy, but just as quickly is back to being a badass. I mean, in all the early episodes he usually ends up wet, paralyzed, upside down, or some other embarrassing position, while still being awesome when the time comes for a fight. It makes him feel more well rounded and realistic, that he gets embarrassed etc.

But we knew "little" Aang was already a bit of a dork. His journey is to shed some of the dorkiness. Zuko's journey is the opposite. Him being socially awkward and unsure and a bit of a dork makes him more rounded, IMO, as a character.

Aang definitely became more suave. He had some moves going on in "The Headband".
