But I think it is a little hard for some people, myself included, to understand how someone can say that Aang only still has just a crush when he clearly states he's in love. And I think he knows his feelings for her. He was crushing at first, but they've been through a lot together. He's seen her vulnerable, he's seen her strong, he's fought for her and with her. He's seen her anger, her attitude, and they have shared a beautiful bond. He's seen her at her worst and her best and all the while his feelings seem to have grown. So much WORD in that, Amira! I don't think I can add anything else.

Is the theory of Katara sharing a spirit with Ta Min and Umi true? Is katara's spirit reincarnated along with aangs? Replace Katara with Toph and I might say, yes. The only girl that should truly have a chance at being Aang's reincarnated love, is Toph. Unless I imagined Toph being the person Aang saw in the swamp and it was actually Katara.

Unless I imagined Toph being the person Aang saw in the swamp and it was actually Katara. Uh...sorry, but what does that have to do with anything? Toph isn't even interested in Aang; she has a crush on Sokka. And I don't think the fact that Aang had a vision of Toph in the swamp has anything to do with any reincarnation theory.

The swamp vision has nothing to do with romance though. If it did, then there would be hints furthering Toph and Aang.
Sokka saw Yue, Katara saw her mother.
Instead Toph is crushing on Sokka. Aang is "Baby-skinned Twinkle Toes" to her. They are friends, they are teacher and student, but Toph's got her own romantic crushing thing going on with her storyline.

No, Toph is his Eartbending teacher, someone he desperately needed to find.
But yeah, the idea that Katara is Aang's reincarnated lover does not sit well with me, mainly because it flies against the idea that destiny is something we find and make ourselves. If katara is in love with Aang, then it should because Aang is everything she feels a man should be, not because she loved him in a past life.

I just think right now Zutara doesn't stand much of a chance when trying to compare these ships. As far as Katara is concern, Zuko is still her enemy and someone whom she hates very much. For me personally, with that kind of vibe, it's hard to ship it even in a fandom sense. I will have to wait until they are friends before I see what they have to offer each other.

I don't like the reincarnated lover thing either. I get the feeling that the reason we've been shown Roku and Ta Min or Kuruk and Ummi is not for reincarnated lovers but more for the notion that Avatar can love and marry. In Roku and Ta Min's case, they had a family and apparently had a solid relationship.

I don't think anyone was trying to twist, just making genuine interpretations. That's the thing though. Aang being in love with Katara is more than just interpretation. It's canon fact. You don't have to buy it but it's there like Aang having arrows on his head. The swamp vision has nothing to do with romance though. If it did, then there would be hints furthering Toph and Aang. Seconded. Personally, I think it works better if the swamp visions represent all kinds of love. Sokka seeing Yue is romantic, Katara seeing her mother is familial, and Aang seeing Toph is friendship based.

@marvel: I feared that. The no one knows part. Oh well... I thought if the swamp vision didn't mean romance it would mean a deep friendship alongside the Earthbending teacher thing since there's still the words "people we lost, people we love....time is an illusion...blah, blah, blah". I'm not saying Toph and Aang don't have a deep friendship (I'm convinced they have one), they just......don't show it that much. :/ Oh well. I agree with Silent_E though. Until Zuko and Katara become friends, I don't think we, okay I'll change it to "I", can make a solid judgement on how they'd be. Especially since Zuko's changed with some enlightment from his uncle. EDIT: @ana: Oh, I know. I'm more than convinced that Aang loves Katara. Like a lot of people, I just still don't ship Kataang

She would tell Guru Pathik to stop drinking Onion and Banana juice because it was making him lose his mind, and then go and get on her white horse to save her boyfriend.
That's true. I can get behind that, it's just hard to imagine them as friends. Not from Zuko's perspective -- I can see him trying to gain her friendship and her trust, but Katara wouldn't be so eager to be friends with him, especially after all that's happened b/w them in the past. I'm not saying that they won't, I'm just saying that it's hard to see at the moment.
And I ttly ship Kataang b/c I think it's epic and awesome and cute.

I totally see that too. The thing that's giving me hope for Zutara friendship is Mike and Bryan saying the theme is redemption and forgiveness.

Well, yeah! I can't see them wrapping up the series w/o some form of reconciliation b/w the two. Katara can hold a grudge, that's true, but I think that Zuko might do something later on in the series to get some of her trust. It would be trippy to see them laughing at jokes and sharing marshmallows by the campfire, though. It's Aang that's gonna be his future BFF, not Katara. DX

@amira: Ahh, very nice post! But.... I apologize for bringing this up. I know its a very common defense mechanism among the shipping colonies, but I just wanted to know your thoughts regarding this specific topic and Aang being in the state of a twelve years old, possibly thirteen year old. I believe its hard for people so young to determine whether they're truly in love or not solely because, well, in Aang's case, developmentally, he's only experienced maybe about 12.5% of his life, saying he lives to be 150 years old or not. The small amount they have experienced so far in their life so far is the only thing they know so they do what they think is truth and jump the gun and make the claim. Short post, I have more to say, but it applies more to Katara and I can't get my wording in order. I'll save it maybe for another time. He has claimed his love for her, been through the good and the bad, traveled the same self-discovering journey as he, but.... that thought still comes to my head... is he getting confused with what he thinks is love? It's easy to misinterpret the feelings of love and turn it into something its not. Could his love for her be the love a best friend would feel? I'm not trying to start anything -_- I just want to bring these questions up. And just to throw it out there, I'm a neutral shipper these days– Think of meh as an airbender

You know, whenever I hear someone talking about Katara 'saving her boyfriend (Aang)' I always picture her as like a knight in shining armor and Aang as a damsel in distress Odd mental image, I know. But anyways, I voted Kataang (obviously) because I just love the way they interact and I think it's really sweet and cute how they care for eachother so much. The only reason I'm not for zutara is that I just didn't see enough of it being developed. If it had been there in the start, then yeah, call me close minded, but I just go along with what happens on the screen because...that's really what tells what happens in the show to me xD.

DX Yeah, I wonder what he has to do to get her trust back. That would be cool be to see. From what I heard about WAT, seems like it. Oh well. I'm not sad by that cuz I like platonic everything in Avatar.
