Okay guys, back on topic. TRUE FACT. TRUE FACT. XD Not this little black duck...I've stood by him when I wanted to throttle him...I'm not giving up on my Zuzu just because his daddy's got a pretty face...and is closer to my age bracket... If it weren't for Ozai's age, I would be all over Zuko. But I have an attraction for older men. Same with Sokka, I think Hakoda way hotter than he is.

He really seemed different, sure we don't know much about him anyway, but he didn't seem like the man that scarred and banished his own son. He almost seemed... nice. Weird. Seeing his face shocked me pretty badly.

I know that's what creeps me out about him. I always pictured him to be some really big dude with thick eyebrows that look like wooly catipillars with a bad hair day. He looks so not threatening, which is probably what the creators want us to think. They want Ozai to look like this non-threatening good father dude. I don't want to see what he looks like when he's ticked off. >_>

C'mon...he's got two drop dead gorgeous children...you think they got their looks just from their mother? The FN breeds the most beautiful people. Fact. Anyway, I really wanted Ozai to have a scar. But then again he would probably parallel Zuko too much. I like how he looks "not-so-evil", which he probably is deep down. He was just swept away by the appeals of power and glory. ILU OZAI!

I don't know about you guys, but I have a tough time hating evil HOT guys.
So when Ozai started to come through the fire this was me: PLEASE DOn'T BE HOT PLEASE DON'T BE HOT PLEASE DON'T BE HOT CRAPPPPPP He's hot.
It's going to take all my love of the GAang to get through this.

Yeah... I wasn't expecting him to look hot.. or that young... or even that non-evil. Of course, I'll stand by Zuko. However, it takes more imagination now to imagine all of the evil things that he does.

As long as he's good looking and doesn't act all rowdy.

M+B are messing with us. They've talked multiple times about how they like blurring the line between good and evil (with characters like Jet, Gen. Fong, etc) and I think they're going to try and pull the same trick with Ozai. It's easier to relate to a really pretty man than a wrinkled sour-faced old crone (like Azulon).

Him looking hot and non evil makes me very scared for Zuko when he finds out that the Avatar is alive. Poor Zuko...I think seeing him as a seemingly good person makes me more afraid of his temper...

Several people have said that they expected him to look "more evil"...I see where that's coming from, but at the same time, I think it was a very interesting choice on the part of the creators to make him look the way he does...it was unexpected and that's always good from a storytelling standpoint. As for what he's like as a person, I think we need to watch more of the season to learn more about him. I agree that seeing him as a father figure was pretty startling, but at the same time, I think it gives him depth as a character. All the same, though, I think that if Zuko hadn't come back under the circumstances that he did, his father would not have given the "I am proud of you" speech. One last thought that came to me yesterday... Anyone else think that it was strange how Zuko referred to Ozai as Dad before their first meeting? Dad...that word has certain connotations that don't seem to fit their relationship. He had never used the word before, as far as I remember. It was always "my father". Suddenly he's home again and it's "Dad"...I have a sinking feeling that he's started to forget what his father did to him, or rather, that he thinks his father isn't the same man anymore... If that is the case, I think he is in for a rude awakening...a very rude awakening...

The only thing that shocked me is how young he looks. I don't think he is good-looking at all, actually I find him rather creepy looking. His head looks wierd, maybe it's just me. Really, it kinda reminds me of a shrunkin head. Just creepy. I do still think however that he looks a bit more like Ursa, although I guess he does have some Ozai traits as well.

His looks don't surprise me that much. I just looked at a picture of Firelord Azulon and compared Ozai and Iroh to him. Ozai looks a lot more like Azulon than Iroh does. Iroh seems to take some of his traits from his grandfather Sozin. Also, given the fact that Ozai has two very attractive children, I expected him to be a relatively handsome man.
Another thing that doesn't surprise me is his age. Ozai appears to be in his mid to late 30s but no older than 40. I always thought Iroh was in his mid to late 50s. Remember, when Iroh was breaking down the wall of Ba Sing Se, he had a full head of black hair with a moderately receding hairline. Time alone doesn't age a man that severly that fast until we get what we see today. I think someone hit the nail on the head when they said that it was possible for Lu Ten's death, combined with being betrayed by his brother and possibly his father, that weighed heavily on Iroh.
Lastly, I am not too surprised that the creators chose the route they did when presenting the fearsome firelord. They have often shown good and bad parts in most of their characters. While Ozai may be evil, power hungry, and slightly sadistic, he is capable of some good since he is human. I think many people jumped the gun when trying to size up what type of man Ozai is, thus overlooking the very fact that he is not some creature, but he is human. I am pretty sure that he felt something in regards to his wife Ursa just disappearing. When Ursa disappeared, he was standing nostalgic-like by the turtle duck pond that she liked to visit. The fact that he was there at all says something to me. Ozai probably doesn't regret burning Zuko, but he may be slightly happy that his son has come home, and a respectful war-hero at that. It is no different from when someone spanks their kid and sends them to the room(Zuko's case was excessive, but you see where I am going.) Let's not forget that Ozai isn't the first monarch in history that has ever done something outlandish to one of his offsprings(Remember Ivan the Terrible).
All in all, now that a little light has been shed on Ozai, I think that the creators did pretty well in presenting him the way they did. They didn't really fool us or anything. It is not like we all believe that Ozai is a sweet as sugar because he turned out to be a Super Stud like Sesshomaru from Inuyasha rather than your traditional villan like Jafar from Aladin. Avatar is not your everyday traditional show. Maybe this route will alleviate some of the hatred many of us have had for a character whom we didn't really see until about 72 hours ago.
