Yea! I want to be Aang's best friend... if that came true I would probably be the happiest person on earth. He's just so friendly and optimistic! I can't imagine how anyone wouldn't love him, if they did than they're probably crazy.

Aang is certainly my favorite character. It didn’t start out that way for me as I didn’t dislike him, but wasn’t particularly impressed by him. But that has changed I think because in many ways, he’s changed. He’s not the same boy who was rescued from an iceberg and wanted to immediately go penguin sledding and have fun. That boy was sweet, fun loving, and with his behavior later “In the Avatar Returns,” he shows just an inkling of the Aang we continue to see throughout the series - the brave boy who makes mistakes and accepts the consequences (often with a good-natured smile).
But the sweet, fun loving boy has grown up. He still is undeniably adorable and charming, but he has developed a maturity and seriousness. He has become more thoughtful, more wise, and is not merely a boy looking for a good time.
I think what has made Aang so enjoyable for me as a character is we’ve watched him grow up. Fundamentally he is still sweet, loving Aang but he has grown into someone who now has a maturity and dignity that only comes with facing a task or situation mach larger than oneself. He is an all-powerful being who has girl-problems, is at times awkward, and often just wants to be a normal boy. It is this delightful human quality in Aang that keeps him from being just the magical hero of the story.
He is sweet, he is angsty, he is unselfish, he is at times immature, he is suave, he is insecure, he understands the value of acting his age, he displays a wisdom and sense of duty far beyond his years. Aang is an interesting mix of contrasts and for me it has been exciting to watch the progression from Season 1 Episode 1 Aang to DoBS Aang.
Aang is who he is and he makes no apologies for it. I once read in a forum post where someone said Zuko is more real to them, well Aang is more real to me. The staff of the show has taken what could’ve been a very unbelievable character (Kung-fu Action Magic Jesus anyone?) and made them someone who is many times simply like the boy next door.

Well said Amira! Another reason why I love him so much is because he doesn't actually act like a hero. When you think about it he's really a team player more then anybody. He has more power then his friends but doesn't flaunt it. He has a a thousand times more responsibility but doesnt complain about it. If a person were to watch this for the first time they'd probably not realize that Aang is the hero. Even I forget it sometimes. I'll be watching and Sokka will take charge while Toph kicks about a thousand peoples butts at once and Aang is kind of pushed to the side. But at the end of the day, Aang is the hero. I almost cry everytime I see him show his real power in order to save his friends.
Oo I just love Aang, the end.

Aang appreciation month is over. Does this mean I should take off my sig for it? I still love him of course, but I don't want to seem out of date And *karma* Amira, you basically just summarized my feelings for Aang.

don't take it off Kataangirl, just write underneath it "Every month for me is Aang appreciation month!"
Very well put Amira. For me, the way the writers created Aang is to remind us that even people that seem superhuman or godlike, have their weaknesses; after all, they are human too. The only thing that separates us from them is their willingness to step up and face the challenge, and Aang has no limits of courage. Yes, he does have his insecure moments, but who hasn't? That is all a part of life and being human with flaws.

@kataangirl: Like lastavatar said, you could always put in your sig that Aang Appreciation Month is every month for you! That's what I'm gonna put in. xD And I agree with everything you said Amira. *karma* I love Aang because he's a 12 year old BAMF, and not that many 12 year olds can say that. @liz: It's amusing how hot he can look from time to time.

Aang must be a fan of Frank Sinatra because he did it, his way.
Aang has grown-up but never lost the fact that he still a kid and has seem to found a perfect balance between goofing off and being wiser.

I love the way he was going to hit Ozai with all 4 elements at the same time! To paraphrase Mark Hamill in Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back, "Dont mess with the Avatar, son."
