I know. Aang was kicking Equus asinus, but in a later epsiode he was nerfed. It's pissing me off. Here's an example of what I'm talking about: Aang was able to take on both Katara and Toph blindfolded, but in the next episode or two, Aang couldn't see in the Dark! Did he forget his training? Is he that stupid? Nope, he was nerfed so Toph can look good. If they keep doing that, Aang will never get anywhere.

im watching it now to confirm, but in both the puppet master and in nightmares and dreamscapes aang had no problem seeing in the dark.
in fact, when the gaang approached the cave, sokka said "i cant see anything down there." toph replies with "thats why you have me" **grabs sokka's hand** "lets go."
aang however, jumps right into the cave unassisted.

Indeed, Sokka was the one having trouble seeing, not Aang.
Then in an effort to certail any questions of his ability in the Hamma fight, I give you this. He didn't know what Hama was doing, he didn't know she was bending the water in people. He confronted Hama and she just starting controlling him.
Basically when it comes to bending knowledge is power, and Aang didn't have the knowledge at the time.

Might also be proof that Aang's waterbending isn't effected by the moon? Otherwise he could have gained control like Katara did. Surely he's stronger than Hama normally.

It's just nerfing Aang to make lame @ss Katara look good. The moon is where water benders--including Aang, Yiceman--get there powers from. Without the moon, water benders can not bend; this includes Aang as well.

Katara hate should be taken to the Katara thread please.
I'm sorry, but Aang not knowing the was having the water in his own body bent at the time it happened is a logical answer, and So is Yicemen's answer of a non-waterbending native Avatar not drawing the same power boost from the full Moon.
Mike and Bryan and the other writers have worked hard to make sure one character doesn't constantly overshadow others. They all have their days in the sun,(or moon as the case may be) but none of them make the others superfluous.
Aang survived the encounter with Hama, Katara will let him know what Hama did so he can effectively counter it in the future if it ever comes up, but at the time Aang did not know what he was dealing with so there was no way he could have effectively countered it.

It's not nerfing Aang when it's never been shown he's empowered by the moon. They're not making him any less powerful.
And Aang CAN'T be affected by outside sources like that, otherwise the entire plot is pointless. If he's affected by the moon, then he has to be affected by Sozin's Comet, which ruins the whole time limit thing they've got going.
So I still say that since he wasn't born and raised with waterbenders, the moon doesn't affect him. Nor does the sun. I know he's technically a bender of both elements, but each Avatar has always retained their personal cultures they were raised in. Aang's an Air Nomad at his core. I bet Roku was affected by the sun and the comet, but not the moon.

^^Don't forget the seasonal boost. Summer as it so happens is firebending's dominent season, Firebenders are naturally more powerful during the summer time.

Really? I didn't know about that one. Was that in one of the books or something?

It's in the Lost scrolls. Each element is dominated by a specific season. Winter=water Spring=Earth Summer=fire Fall=Air. According to the books each element stronger during it's dominent season. What's more, more benders are born during the element's dominant season then at any other time.

Nifty. Must just be a minor boost though, because I don't see any noticable change in the bending as the show goes on.

I don't think Aang's affected by the moon either. Besides, he didn't have any water to bend as he didn't know about taking the water out of the air and plants. And about more benders being born in the element's matching season, all of the air nomads were benders, so did they just have like...mating season or something so that the babies were born in the fall? Or maybe air's an exception. I've always wanted to know when Aang's b-day is though. Speaking of Aang, isn't next month Aang appreciation month?

Is it? Who makes up these months? And are there other character appreciation months? I've never heard of these things before.

Lol, I think it was just made up last year because people (myself included, even though I wasn't yet a member at that time) felt Aang wasn't getting enough attention from the fandom, which was kind of true. It was time Aang got some more love from the fandom, so Aang appreciation month was created

Aang doesn't get enough appreciation at all!! It's depressing.... he needs more fangirls, though I can't talk. I'm an Iroh fangirl and proud of it! He's dang sexy now too!!! Anyhoo all the things you're saying about the moon affecting Aang seems right. He's not a waterbender by birth and it's not in his blood. He's a waterbender spiritually because of his avatar duties and I think the moon has a very physical affect on water benders This screenshots.avatarspiritmedia.net/308/159.jpg and this screenshots.avatarspiritmedia.net/308/160.jpg show that it's very physical and because Aang ahs no waterbending in his family or in his genes he can't be physically affected by things like Sozin's comet and the moon
