Oh you're poor mother. Three kids under 2. I so do not envy those few years she had to endure. Potty training two at the same time is bad enough- they must have loved that they had a ring leader to follow too. It's so true that twins do not act the same. I used to think it was simply because my twins are different genders, but I noticed that there is a defined hierarchy involved. My daughter is 1 minute older than her brother... and somehow she know it. She is the queen bee and what she says goes. He is just all too glad to follow her lead and listen. Someday I hope he finds his chi and puts her in place... she has is coming.

Me and my sister are identical twins!! =] it's kind of funny though because one doctor said we were ferternal, and another said we're identical. Our mom went with the doctor she liked better! Some ppl in school don't know which one is which so when they pass back papers they'll show me a paper and ask is this you? and I'm like yea, thanks. lol

That's interesting... with my brothers, the younger one is the more dominant twin.

Some ppl in school don't know which one is which so when they pass back papers they'll show me a paper and ask is this you? and I'm like yea, thanks. lol If you ever wanted to know for sure, all it takes is a simple blood test. Identical twins will be 98% or better DNA match to one another. Until I found out my twins gender, there was speculation that my twins may have been identical. The main factor was only one placenta was seen on previous sonograms. When we found out I was having a girl and a boy, it just meant that both placentas were so close to one another, they grew together. And when I delivered them, they most certainly did grow together. That's funny Moonmask. Most parents of multiples I speak to (that have fraternal girl/boy twins) always tell me their first born is the domineering child. You're the first person I have spoken to as family member of identical twins. I guess birth order doesn't make a difference in this case... I suppose it's more a matter of 'survival of the fittest'. Or should I say, "survival of the more stronger willed"? lol

That's insane GH. That is definite grounds for being careful, as a woman from that family. The genetical link to passing on the ability of multiple births always goes to a female family member. After all, we're the ones with the eggs and we have the ability to release more than one egg during any given cycle. Which doesn't exactly save the males of that family... They will pass that same egg passing ability on to their daughters. My great great grandmother on my father's side had 12 children. Of those twelve kids, she had 4 sets of fraternal twins. I can't even imagine what it would be like to cook dinner on a daily basis for that many people. That's like cooking a holiday dinner daily. Only thing I can think of is that they didn't have cable tv back then.... so they had nothing better to do than procreate.

The genetical tendancy to have multiple births is a throwback to when we were all little furry mamal things things that had litters of offspring... I read dat in new scientist.......

I so totally believe that. When the kids were young, I used to joke with my husband that I am de-evolving because I spent more time bent over (on all fours) picking up the mess of toys (brought on by two kids) than I did standing up... on any given day.
I'd tie that in with the whole "animals are meant to have litters" thing to prove that I was no longer human.. lol

It's funny how you both mention the large family thing as insane... and I agree. I am one of 6 kids and my husband is one of 7. Without offending anyone here, I mean this seriously, I swear anything over 4 kids makes the poor parents insane. I call it the "Over 4 Theory". Saying you want more than 4 kids is not the same as actually having them. I swear the element of more than 4 children drives the parents blissfully over the edge and they don't even realize it. Trust me, my parents and my in laws are more than a few marbles short of a good game/ nuttier than a $4 fruitcake/ a few fries short of a happy meal. My house sounds like a pep rally with only two ankle biters cruising around... imagine what a household of 4 or more is like? It was never quite growing up. I used to pride myself- I must have been beyond ordinary intelligence level if I was able to study for a final with screaming in stereo and still get an A for a grade. Delivery isn't all as bad as everyone likes to make it out to be, Admirality. It's one of those things- you know when you have a positive pregnancy test in hand, the ending of that pregnancy is not going to be without some sort of pain... you get 9 months to prepare for it. I have to admit to being really sad when I delivered my twins. I felt like we got split up. They'd be 'the twins' and I'd be mom... when only moments before I had them, it was just the three of us together. Mom's too have a bond with their twins.... we're privy to their secret language and ritualistic behavior until they decide to gang up on us.

Twins are demons from another world. I hear that they share a single soul, because one body cant contain all the satanic evil.
I say burn them all.

You might be on to something there, Kaneda...
Though I believe they have different souls- and thank God for that. If I had to deal with two kids with same exact personalities, I think I would have tossed myself off a high rooftop long ago.
I look at it more as, you know how your parents wish a kid just like yourself on you? Well, I take it the Gods couldn't figure out who was more bad, my husband or I. So instead, they decide to put the screws to us and give us the "one just like you" at the same time.
We must have been really bad.

I've always wanted a twin until recently. I think it must be really hard to constantly be compared to eachother. I know two identical twins who are on all the same sports teams. In softball, one of them became a captain, and one didn't. I'd feel horrible if my twin and I did everything together and she was always more naturally successful. Especially during high school years, where everything you do is being scruntinized by friends and family. Maybe twins' bonds are so strong, that they are each able to be happy for the other no matter what, but I feel like there's a competition with me and my brother and we have years separating us. Yes, it would be fun to have someone always there for you, but there are major drawbacks too.
