Poor, Katara, she never deserved that (I mean learn a technique like that when she didn't want it, she does deserve that power if she wanted it) and yea, that lady is creepy

I think it's good she learned blood bending.
To fully master all water bending she has to learn all it's aspects. Good and evil.
It's what she's going to do with that knowledge that defines her.

Hama (Hamma?) has become my favorite one-shot character. She's an awesome waterbender who happens to be a villain (not an antagonist like Pakku, but a real villain) and she's voiced by Tress Macneille. How a character can be any more awesome is beyond me.
And of course, the episode itself was great. Waterbending= so much love. Bloodbending, how macabre! ...Obviously, coherent sentences can not describe my love for this episode.

I have to agree with BrightFire on this one! I loved Hamma! I thought what an awsome, powerful old lady! Even though she can be constrewed as "creepy", I think to some degree, she had a right to do what she did, after all, she was forcibly taken from her home and locked up at a young age, so yeah, I'd want a bit of revenge too! And what better way of getting it than turning your captors into meat puppets ;D

I never thought Avatar would bring in blood bending as a lot of people think its gruesome (and the show is targeted toward kids), but it makes things much more interesting. x] I wonder how far they'll take bending....
As many other people might have already mentioned......
- If you know how to airbend, can you just take all the air away from someone, which would kill that person?
- If you know how to firebend, can you remove all the heat from someone, which would eventually kill them?

I'm not a keen observer on Air and Fire, as I am on water. But I can only bring up that Fire is usually generated from a heat source, or a direct flame is taken form another source. I don't think they could "steal" someone's heat like that. One because it seems impractical, since if you could take a fire away, you can also cause them to spontaneously combust. Another reason is that it's too gruesome. For air, I believe it's a spatial effect. It has to be within a set area for the air vacuum to work. Thus killing more than a specified person. But I'm not too sure, those are only points that I can bring up.

you can't create an air vacuum through airbending. This would be instantly filled by more air, and thus a wind current is created... hmm interesting anyway, a lot of the discussion here has become very scientific. Avatar doesn't even pay attention to science. At all. You can't create air vacuums, because that would not only be really hard to draw (the animators aren't all powerful), but would also be extremely complicated for the show's target audience, and would also cause a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE death. Anyway, bloodbending's A REALLY cool ultra. I'm sure Katara will use it again, probably on Azula.

Um, isnt it normally the other way around?? anyway, I laughed quite a bit at the start when Sokka was trying to tell a haunted story, and everyone just looked SO bored. Katara's story wasn't that scary. The creepy music was quite chiling though.

I honestly didn't find Katara's story to be that scary. I was expecting a bit more out of the whole episode, I think.
Was wonderfully done for a Y7 show, though. Bloodbending is a really, really dark subject, and they did really well with making it decent for a Y7 show.
