Return to Omashu was the introduction to two recurring character; and Aang recieved instructions for what to look for in an earthbending teacher.
The Swamp paved the way to the introduction to Toph, and using water to manipulate objects. The Blue Spirit's reappearance had little importance to the main plot, though it was cool and used to show how low Zuko was getting now that he was a fugitive.
Well, that's pretty much what happened in book 1 and 2. Aang starts Waterbending in 109... uses it briefly in 110, then he waterbends on the ship in 112 to keep Sokka and the old man from being squished by a pole. Starts Earthbending in 209... then he earthbends a zoo in 215. You see little, if any, earthbending teaching beyond 209. I have a feeling that's what it'll be like in this season. You'll see him begin, but see only snippets of him learning afterwards and only if other plot elements are a factor.

I don't like the high amount of irrelevant things and the lack of continuity. Watch "The Runaway" and compare Kataras behaviour with her acting as "The Painted Lady". The same is true for Aang. Compare "The Headband" and "The Painted Lady" with "The Awakening" and "Nightmares and Daydreams". After every episode it's almost like the episode before hasn't happened AT ALL. That's less true for Zuko, but it's definitely the case concerning the gAang. They are stumbling through the story with terrible pacing, switching from "definitely relevant, but never mentioned again" to "absolutely irrelevant, let's give it a whole episode!". I still liked Sokka's Master, The Puppetmaster and The Avatar and the Firelord, because the storys were deep and well told. But that makes 3 good episodes out of 9....

Well, in a similar vein, the Order of the White Lotus hints and the tile from Sokka's Master could lead to something big like the Toph sightings in The Swamp.

They are most likely setting up all the characters up for the final big bang of the clash between Avatar and Fire Lord at this point. The plot will most likely happen very quickly, I believe a month or 2 in real time, seeing that the summer solstice is on June 22 and I am assuming that the end of summer is end of August or late September.

Yeah. I wish there was a better time line. I guess it would work this way:
end of season 2- 2 months before eclipse
season 3 beginning - 1 month before eclipse
solstice- maybe 1-2 weeks before eclipse
eclipse - beginning or middle of July
comet - late August.
So that works out to the season probably ending just before the comet or around the arrival of it.
Curious side note: Firebenders would get Comet Power Up...but would the Avatar as well? They haven't really demonstrated Avatars being as affected by elemental forces (like the moon for waterbending, etc).

There still following the main plot if people pay attention to the story...I mean the big task was that the gang set up postion for attack in the fire nation capital....What where seeing is basicly just the journey of getting from "The Awakening" to the big plan that sokka thought of. so there just really two stories like last time...the gang plan to attack and Zuko searching for his own awakening
