Well we made....give yourself a pat on the back. I say this cause now was in the middle point of the half season and it seems mix but majority is disappointed. Of course I didn't have expectation cause I knew that the big event was going to be in the late to mid season. So of course the first have could be basically and introduction about the fire nation as a whole. How this nation work with it people and resources as well as the culture and attitude around the. Also it was mostly an aanggang story...Big change of the main plot were most on Zuko and how he handle himself with those who he had effect them.
Of course I'm not expert but again what I took from the first five episodes was mostly overlook view...a somewhat behind the scene of the fire nation and what our characters were up with there exploration. So from "The Awakening" to "The Beach", what is your take on the overall plot as well as this season so far....Well these things that we seen before come to play later in the season.

Well these things that we seen before come to play later in the season. I don't know how to feel about this statement. On the one hand, I'd really like some of the elements we've seen in these first five episodes to return, because it would make them seem like less of a waste. It's all too easy to get caught up in judging an episode on its own merits when it's not connected with the rest of the season. On the other hand, though, what I really disliked about a few of these early episodes wasn't their lack of relevancy to the invasion plan or whatever. It was the animation and the dialog and the timing and a multitude of other factors that made me disappointed in them. So if we see things come back from these episode (the villagers from "The Painted Lady", Ty Lee's sob story from "The Beach", etc), I'm probably going to wince rather than applaud.

My biggest complaint with the season to this point is the pacing. Not in the season as a whole, but inside each episode. The obvious sufferer of this was the Awakening, but all of the episodes this have suffered from it to some degree. The season as a whole I think has been a mixed bag in terms of pacing. On the one hand I wouldn’t classify any of the episodes so far as filler (each has a specific purpose that will come into play later) but I think a lot of people are disappointed that their haven’t been any really big bending battles or clashes between the gAang and the Zu crew. My earlier point about the sub par pacing in the episodes I think is actually related to this. They have too much material to cover in to short of time. I’m not really worried about the rest of the season, because Avatar has always had somewhat slow season starters. It’s going to take a bit for momentum to build up, but once it does it’ll keep going for the rest of the season. Oh, and in terms of how I’ve personally liked the episodes this season, here’s a quick rundown (with ten being awesome, one being awful, and five being meh)….
The Awakening: 6. Rushed. It felt like it was an hour long two-parter that suddenly got stuffed into a half hour.
The Headband: 9. Technically the best put together episode this season.
The Painted Lady: 7. While there’s nothing really wrong with this episode, and from a storytelling point of view it had to be here, it just sort of seemed… boring.
Sokka’s Master: 9. Solid episode with spotlight on a character that’s sorely been neglected. Favorite episode this season.
The Beach: 8. I’ve stated my opinion on this elsewhere, so I won’t bore everyone with it again. Suffice to say I liked it, but it has some flaws.

I agree with Ashrial; The Painted Lady was kinda lame, The Awakening was robed by time, The Headband and Sokka's Master both rocked, and The Beach was smack in the middle of meh and awesome.

The Awakening, was it really robbed now? Go back and watch it. The best episodes are Sokka's Master and The Awakening. ***They are the best episodes, there is no war in that.***

I beg to differ, "The Awakening" had all the potential and ingredients to be one of the greatest and most memorable episode of Avatar but it turned into a disappointing fizzle instead of a spectacular BANG! No thanks to the idea of squeezing all that emotion and movement into 24 minutes. But I agree with you about "Sokka's Master" it felt like the old days of Avatar when the plot was simple yet also beautifully deep and the pacing was smooth and everything that happened, happened enough to make you feel satisfied after just about every episode; "Sokka's Master" was out of place in the storyline but it was handled beautifully. Regarding the third season, Avatar is just making up for the fact that they didn't explore the FN in the first two seasons, not that it could be helped given the setting but the entire story is being halted in order to humanize the FN while trying to appear interesting through bad story lines and poor character handling. "The Beach" is one of the most notable examples as it dumps info dumps on us about Ty Lee and Mai who were seldom seen in the second season unless they were fighting or adding to Azula's intimidating presence.

I'll say it again until I'm blue in the face... (oh, maybe that's where I got my screen-name?) I get the feeling that the creative team was not expecting to have only one season left to finish up the story. If you could spread out the Season 3 narrative across two or more seasons, wouldn't it flow so much better? *sigh* Oh well. Artistic output + corporate demands = rushed season 3, I'm thinking. It would be nice to hear some official word on whether this was true or not. I wonder if we will ever get any?

Sokka's master was amazing. I loved the combustion man fights in the beach. i have great hopes for this season.
But we've already gone through 1/4 of the season and it isn't as amazing as i thought it'd be. don't get me wrong its doing great but i was hoping for like epic fight scenes and sweet dialogue with evilness and more drama. but i guess they can't do that on a kids show cuz my dream avatar would be just 75% epic fight scenes 15% dramatic dialogue and 10% comedy ^_^

I thought I read that Mike and Brian had always intended for the show to last for three seasons. When you say that you "get the feeling," are you basing that feeling just on the tone of the episodes or are you drawing a conclusion from something you've read? You've made me curious.

As of now I feel like Avatar won't get going until later in the season.... So far everything seems to not be going the way I expected... The Awakening and Sokka's Master, to me, we the only good episodes so far...They actualy dealt with the plot line and it moved it forward. The painted lady was okay, we got to see another side of Katara and Sokka. The headband we learn some things about the FN. But in the Beach, gosh that was horrible.... The only worthy part of that episode was the Combustion man and Zuko admitting he was confused.

I think most of us want the meat and potatoes of the story like aang learning firebending and this whole day of black sun to begin...So I think for the most part we learn much about certain sector of the fire nation and maybe how they play out...maybe not in the same location but like in "The Painted Lady" where we see sometime of abuse for the so call benfit to sociy...So I think The Beach was reboot of what are things to come now that were heading doing the other half of the story
People forget every pass season there are clues to how they play out later during the season...much more like season two and appa story....So while most focus on the episode...don't forget to focus the bigger pictures.

In my opinion, the season is just tarting to get on the ball and on a roll. Typically, with the past season of Avatar episodes one through five aren't fillers, although some may argue with me on this, but their there to introduce new setting, plot, and events that will take place at a somewhat slow pace. Such an example will be 'The Painted Lady.' Many found it boring and irrelevant to the plot. It seems like this is so and it could be if the Painted Lady doesn't make a reappearance. To have an episode bring forth a new character-which the painted lady is (although it's really Katara in dusguise) seems useless to emphasize. Why have an entire episode devoted tothis new character then? These small details will be reflected upon in future episodes but we'll have to wait. The action hasn't even started. The first five episodes are there to establish a purpose or a setting, this case being the Firenation and it's citizens. It's piles and piles of informations being dumped on us viewers, which could either be exciting or a drag to our viewers who want to see Aang master the Avatar state or start learning Firebending. Remember this has only been the first 1/4 of the third season. There are still 3/4 left. Just imagine the possibilities And the fights that can persue! xD

In my opinion...none of us can say what the "majority" of fans think unless we've personally surveyed all of the millions of Avatar fans.
As for me, I'm currently very much satisfied and am hungry for more!

SPOILER(ish)
\\\
Not to spoil it for everyone, but the Avatar and the Firelord has got to be the best episode so far. Roku and Sozin… wow, just wow. This episode is what I think a lot of the fans having been waiting for, an episode that contributes in a big way to the main storyline, and begins to clear up some of what was left hanging last season, while also setting up some stuff for the future. Overall (using my previous rating system) I’d give this a 9 ½. The only real downside is a joke that I thought Avatar was mature enough to be past by this point. Also, Sokka has (what I consider) his best line to date in this episode. Hope that wasn't to spoilery.
