I love to draw. And though it can seriously wear on my nerves sometimes, I often draw things that I like so much that I'm not my usualy shy self and I feel like sharing it. So... I have a scanner (check) But what else do I need? Everytime I upload my art is looks like crap~! It looks so pretty on paper... Yes, I draw using really light, flowing thin lines... that's just my style! But thanks to MS Paint my work looks... dark and patchy Can someone give me some pointers? What types of pens should I use... what format should I save my work in? What's an easy way to "clean" my picture? Oh, right... examples. Look here & here :) They were both uploaded to paint. I know the first one may appear very light. I have had people comment before on my work before saying so. The second one was also uploaded on paint (it's the only program I have -_-) But I converted it to black/white... so it's much darker. You see how the lines are so... uneven? How do I fix that? I'm not looking for c&c (though comments are always accepted :D) otherwise, I would have put this in the fanart section. What I really need is help properly uploading my art onto the computer. Some tips on... ah, preserving it's quality? You know, things like that...

Hmm, I usually use Photoshop and a tablet. That's the nearly guaranteed way to get nice lines but yeah..... I don't know if I can help on the inking and stuff, since I do not ink traditionally. You should start with art pens, sizes 0.1 and 0.3 (although since you already use thin lines, you might want a bigger size). And when you scan it, don't try to convert it. If you ink it nice and dark, then it shouldn't need much tweaking on the computer. Go to art websites, like deviantART and look up traditional inking tutorials and tips. There are tons of 'em. That site has tuts for most other things, too, like traditional coloring. All you have to do is look for them.

Thanks you two for the replies. Up until now I just always assumed that how to properly ink was common knowledge ^^; I had no idea there were tutorials for it~ Thanks Chibi Chan :D
And thanks for the link shockwave~ :D I most definitely will try it~! I would love to keep the "pencil-ness" of my work.
Though I want to ink in my art, some of it would look so much better without ink and I'd like to upload uninked pictures without it being so light @_@
thanks again :D

Here's another thing you can try: www.getpaint.net/Paint.NET is a graphics program that has a few features found in advanced graphic programs, only it's completely free. I use the "Levels" tool to adjust the darkness of my pencil drawings. Just try it, it's really easy and they won't turn out dark like in MS Paint. That program looks neat. But I'm scared of viruses and stuff from downloading. Has your computer been running slowley from the program?

Does Corel Painter Essentials have a pen tool? I have a cheap version of it somewhere. I didn't like using Corel, though.

I stand for truth Lord Azula -- You may want to check your scanner, since the program that uploads the pics usually has some sort of photo-editing software that comes with it.

And Elements doesn't feature a pen tool..... -_- I know, it sucks. I have to do all my inking by hand. =P

I cant give any tips but... If you want a good image-y editor thingy, I suggest GIMP it is free, and is basically Photoshop. Search for it on Google, yahoo, Etc. and Download!
