One thing that really bothered me about the episode is how stupid, I mean REALLY stupid, Zuko is. Once Ozai told him that Azula gave him credit for slaying Aang, he should've denied it. Instead, he took the credit Azula all-too-willingly gave him and decided to confront Azula later about it, as if he would get an honest answer. Good point; but keep in mind that Ozai's good mood would have been spoiled if his newly redeemed son was to tell him that not only did Azula, his beloved daughter, turn the elite Dai Li against their leader, conquer Ba Sing Se, and capture Iroh, she also "killed" the Avatar whereas Zuko merely stayed loyal... Ozai may not have been so happy if he learned that after praising his son when Zuko hardly did anything. My point is that Zuko, if he had half a brain, would have immediately challenged Azula's assertion that he killed the Avatar. All of the above that she accomplished was not possible without Zuko's treachery against Iroh and he should've smelled a setup when Ozai told him Azula gave him credit for slaying Aang. Instead he went along with it, playing into Azula's trap.

The thing though is that after years of whining over "daddy's respect" and his honor, refuting the credit in that throne room would have messed all that up...which is why Zuko sent the jewel-forehead-assassin-man out to get Aang.

Personally, I was dissapointed. It was way too rushed, the transitions were horrible, as was the animation.
Hopefully it will get better.

^ Amen to that.
I felt Aang's character was a jip from Zuko when I heard "I need to restore my honor." WTF?
And Yue floating downward was kind of random.
As night said, the episode felt like a mad dash to the Fire Nation and the transitions were at random times, not feeling natural. XP
But I'm going to try and hope it gets better.
Oh...and one more thing. WTF was with the Earth King? "lulz...wurld's getting taken over. WURLD TUR!" WTF?

Zuko doesn't have the monopoly on honor or restoration and in Aang's mind he had failed and he had screwed up and he needed to redeem himself. I don't know of any other way they could have put it, especially since Aang and Zuko have sort of been deemed parallels.
Zuko thinks he may have restored his honor. Aang thinks his is lost. And in the end of the episode, Zuko's honor may not have been restored as he thought and Aang's honor may not be as lost as he thought. Parallels once again.
Makes sense to me.

Yeah I thought it was a great episode but it was really random when Zuko and Mai kissed, even though I knew it was going to happen from the trailer. I also thought it was kinda weird that the Earth King would just leave like that, not really caring that his whole country has fallen.

I loved the awakening episode. I knew it wasn't going to have a lot of accion because they had to show aang and how everything happed to the point where they are now. The one thing that I didn't like was that they let the earth king go, it shouldn't have been that way, it was like he didn't care for what was going on. Suko he is just disappointing me.

The episode was a little fast paced, but if you over look that it was pretty good. Of coarse it could have been better but its just the first episode of season three and was just setting the foundation for the next episodes. Personally I would have liked to see Ty lee and I thought Yue was a bit out of place and when she did come out she didn't say much on a nice note about Yue when she floated down it was very pretty.

I think the problem is that we waited so long for new Avatar that everyone's hopes and expectations kept growing bigger. People were expecting something huge and wonderful that could not be lived up to. The longer we spend anticipating a thing, the more of a letdown it is once it gets there. Personally, I thought the episode was great. There's always something that maybe could have been done differently, but on the whole I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's only the first episode, and we're still setting the scene and re-introducing characters. I imagine the season will only continue to get better as it goes on. Yeah, it could be WAY better. Whats up with the whole too-spirit bundle? Kinda stupid, huh? WHATS WITH HOPE BEING IN THERE I LOVE HOPE BUT THATS JUST CHILD ABUSE WRONG MAN WRONG!!!!!! That's exactly why they put her in there; to show the brutality of this war, and that the innocent are not safe from it. That's one of the things I really appreciate about Avatar: it doesn't gloss over anything.

Well I'm dead tired of defending this episode so everything that "I can fly now" wrote I agree with and the first 3 sentences in her post sums everything up. I will disagree with "Night" though, there was nothing wrong with the animation in the episode. Everybody moved fluidly and it was storyboarded quite well. This goes beyond opinion into fact...I could see quite well that the animation was good. Although I could be dead wrong (it's happened in the past) please point out parts of the episode where characters looked stiff and moved every 1.5 minutes.
I look forward to it, thanks.

Sorry if this is completely off-topic, but why do at least 50% of the members of this forum seem to lack the ability to spell the word "premiere" correctly? It's driving me off-the-wall nuts. I lack the ability to spell lots of words correctly...that's why I check everything with a handy-dandy spell check before I post BTW I declined to vote...I've decided to keep my moroseness to my signature...
