I think it was probably Zuko Alone for me. His past is so tragic! Ot maybe the one where Zuko cries (I can't remember the name *Hangs head in shame). That one was Bitter Work I think...are you talking about when he was in the mountains and tried to get hit by lightning? It was bitter work if that is the one =D

The Storm when Zuko is kneeling before his father begging him for mercy, so sad. also, aang's part in the storm. when you think about how it would have all turned out if aang hadden't ran away...there would have never been a war. or at least not such a big one. to think that Aang could have saved thousands of lives by not running away.... I musn't think of it...

The two saddest episodes on the very top of my list are The Storm and Zuko Alone.
The Storm almost needs know explanation, especially a glimpse of Zuko's past (and Aang's too). And Zuko Alone, it's almost of a hard episode to watch for me. Why must Zuko's life be filled with sorrow?
Anyway... of course, Bitter Work and ending of The Desert is closely up there.
Edited: Forgot to add Southern Air Temple and Seige of the North.

Saddest Episode would have to be "The Southern Air Temple" when Aang finds Monk Gyatso's bones. It's Like finding your dead father or something.

The Storm, The Desert, The Southern Air Temple, and SotN: II all stand out, probably because there was a ton of emo angsting in all of them.
Zuko alone, too. I didn't like Zuko much until I saw that episode. It was like the ultimate heartstring pluck or something ._.

"Siege of the North". It was the first episode (at least IMO) that we got the feel that this is war. Also we had the touching Iroh and Zuko scene, Katara losing Aang to Zuko then crying, Yue's death scene, etc. etc.

^Yeah, that one made me sad too. But I think my favorite episode so far and my saddest was Zuko Alone.

Zuko alone disappointed me, and so did the library and the desert. They had great plots but the animation quality went down. SoTFN wasn't so bad, thank goodness ^^;
Anyway, I thought the saddest episode was the one where Zhao tried to kill Zuko. The episode number escapes me though.. I believe it was the waterbending master. I missed the circle of flam Zuko used to shield himself from the explosion and I thought he died. Could I have been anymore stupid? Heh xD I cried right after that episode. *headdesk*
