If you think about it the spirit world is alot like the matrix. Unconscious in the real while your in the spirit world. Die in spirit world and you (presumably) die in the real. I wonder if theirs an inbetween area like in the matrix (trainstation) that would be pretty cool. Just random thoughts.
Why would Koh strike fear into humans if practicaly nobody knows he exists?

Probably there are legends, stories about him, that were first started by the Avatar, or whoever knows all about the spirits and stuff, like Iroh, who's Enlightened. I would say that Koh's more of a bedtime/sleepover/campfire scary story type, but by "people," it could've just meant the people who know of his existence. Actually, I'd say that it is well known, since, as we saw, it has many humans' faces in his collection, and the people who knew those people must've known...

Those people could have already been dead and in the spirit world.
If Koh was just a rumor in the real world he would be most feared by people in the 4-12 age demographic.

I think the spirit world we saw are only open to spirits, and mythical creatures. There must be another place where the deceased souls of the mortal world go, or we would've seen Gyatso and many others, even if the Spirit World is much bigger than the mortal. Either that or the dead mortals are designated to a certain area in the spirit world, or there are multiples.
Rumor? Stories and legends are different from mere rumors, mind, especially when they're spread by wise sages (who are most likely to be Enlightened) and Avatars.

I think there is only one spirit world. Maybe the dead live in a different part of it though.

Maybe the dead just kind of sit in a hole for all eternity.

Maybe the dead just kind of sit in a hole for all eternity. Not likely if it's like the mythology of the Far East and even then, when the soul is free of the reincarnation cycle, they become transcendent or be a part of the One Great God (depending on which religion you look into).

I think there is only one spirit world. Maybe the dead live in a different part of it though. I agree with this, I mean, I don't think there would be more than one world, because when Gyatsui died, where else would his spirit go? I'm beginning to think maybe only certain spirits are able to see, and communicate with when Aang goes to the spirit world. Maybe only the spirits he NEEDS most at the moment. Perhaps Gyatsui was there all along. I mean, when he wanted to talk to Avatar Roku, he found his animal, not Koh, or the meditating monkey man. I think it all has to do with what is on his mind, like if he wants to speak to Yue, He would sit, and think about her, and when he went to the spirit world, he could find her. I don't think it would be like, "Ok, let's go find Gyatsui's house."

They could be reincarnated into the spirit world. Maybe the freaky monkey man used to be human. Maybe koh too and the hei bei. Just a thought.
