>tumblr >good place for Korra discussions >good place for any discussions lol okay Man, that's what I miss most: all you clever people, from all corners of the world. Kora just does not have the magic, sadly.... Probably because not everyone knows about The Legend of Korra.

I think plenty of people know, but a lot don't [want] to watch. Some because they think it won't do the original series any justice.

I guess you haven't, but I've seen plenty of good/in-depth discussions on Tumblr. But it's a big place, it can be hard to find.
Korra seems to be in a weird spot where it's known online but not so much offline outside of the SDCC/NYCC. I mean from season 1 ATLA had lots of physical store merchandise, a solid day and time slot, and just more of a Nickelodeon presence including show repeats. Having more episodes helped it a lot too of course. But Korra doesn't seem to really have any of that. I'm hoping that they'll push the marketing more since there will definitely be more seasons, but I guess because times have changed, the show is darker, and because it stars a POC woman, they're kind of holding back in areas. Will Korra get Burger King toys, or video games, trading cards, or kid-sized clothes? I'm already guessing that between-episode comics are out of the picture because Nick Mag folded, and I guess maybe the video games too since THQ went under. Things are just different now.

There's a lot of legitimate theorizing and discussions (though a little bit more chaotic/disorganized than a traditional forum, mind you) on tumblr. You just have to find the right blogs who reblog more than keyboard smashing. I don't always agree with some of the people post (ie some regarding Bolin kissing Ginger as an act of rape culture), but some of the ideas can be thought provoking and discussion worthy and many of them will reply to you publicly or privately.

I'd never really thought about all this. It is true a lot of things are different with Korra from a marketing and advertising standpoint. There are very few commercials for Korra on Nick. I also miss previews of the next episode. I think something a little more specific than the generic "join the fight" ad could draw some more viewers. I remember seeing previews for many season one ATLA episodes even before I watched it regularly. As far as the merchandise goes, I wonder if because they are marketing to an "older" audience they are not going to release merchandise marketed more toward children (like Burger King toys). Of course I wasn't a kid during ATLA and I still bought many of the products. There are a few products out there though. They do seem a little older though (like cell phone cases).

Yeah. Without Wikipedia to check ahead of time, I wouldn't know whether there's going to be a new episode or not until the day it airs and I set up my dvr. It just feels very lacking, and apparently the ratings are proving it. Hopefully Nick will get their act together before they decide it's the show's fault and cancel it. But even if they're aiming for an 'older' audience, they could still have merchandise in teen stores like Hot Topic. Even some of the superhero movies that are decidedly dark and/or violent like Nolan's Batman trilogy still had a ton of promo tie-ins aimed at kids. (although actually that kinda weirded me out.) But outside of some fan-targeted choices like the soundtrack, artbook, and blu-ray/dvd, everything else can only be found online. Add that to their general lack of episode advertising, and it really seems like they're not even trying to pull in new viewers.

That makes me sad that the ratings aren't too good, but it really is Nick's fault.

I find it particularly odd they renew it for an additional 3 seasons, but then act as if they want to cancel it. In that case, why not just only renew it for that one season?

Add that to their general lack of episode advertising, and it really seems like they're not even trying to pull in new viewers. what else is new...really. It was the same with ATLA, screwing up air times for slime time, not having merchandize, not having a complete line of merchandize (there are not girls in the ATLA universe, just ask Mattel...) No soundtrack.... Oh, the show is on in the morning, at 6...at least they have reruns... But I think part of ATLA's success was that the reruns were on Saturday mornings... Kora is good, just different. And there is no question about the ships...unless they are pulling a fast one. I think Kora was sunk when the 3rd season of ATLA was a year late. And THAT is still a WTF moment for me...you got a hot ticket and you post pone it for a year?! REALLY?! Still can't get over it. Merchandize? pft, we are rich enough.... Soundtrack? We done paid the piper. Nick was just really Pi**y about the show, trying hard to keep it from succeeding.

I still check in on this forum. It's the birthplace of me becoming involved in fandoms of any sort. When I wasn't fitting in with the kids in the neighborhood, or I when I was being home-schooled for a couple years, I knew I could always turn here and have good discussions with people.
I joined this forum when I was 12 actually, and look at me now, I'm 19 and I still check it. I hold fond memories for this place.

First time I've poked my head over here in awhile, but I've been thinking of y'all quite a bit lately. I was in high school when I joined... college happened, and all work no fun I'm friends with a few DH oldies on FB and they asked me what I thought of Korra... aaaand, haven't even started the new season yet. D: I think I'm afraid of getting sucked in again like I did before with the originals... AVATAR OWNED MY SOUL.... ' edit: ...just realized that ATLA isn't too far away from it's 9th birthday....

ARDOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :superclomp: been too long since anybody has been clomped on the forum!
Korra is good, but not quiet where ATLA was. Dang, 9 years! Time flies! I see one or the other in WoW at times...considering that they have been silent there for years now....man, I am feeling OLD!
Oh, and NOW they are constantly showing reruns of ATLA...they really never wanted for the show to succeed, did they!

This forum cannot die this way. We need to increase our efforts to increase activity either through the use of advertising across the web or even posting every day. It's not hard to check into the forum nowadays especially in an era of mobile technology. Just use your tablet or smartphone if you're at work or on break. This forum shall not die like this and if we actually put effort into it. We can bring it back to it's former glory. This is not excusable, we should try to be active more which includes myself.
