This year has been strange. If I was superstitious, I might be inclined to believe in the Mayan calendar thing....alas I am not.
In my Son's school band we had to mourn the loss of 3 parents this year. and all the kids are in the same grade (3 out of 8)
I was very upset when I heard about the first one, the lady died in April, and only at the Spring concert did I hear about it (long story...the woman was on the board of directors for the boosters. I am of the oppinion that the president should have send out a little email mentioning that.)
Then, during summer, one kid lost his Dad (Father's Day no less) and a short while later the father of the third kid murdered the mother. Things that happen in my small town.
now, a few weeks back my step mom died.
She had been battling cancer the last five years and she was bad off.
We did have a stormy relationship. Many good and fun times, but also a lot of ugly scenes which I cannot all attribute to my adolecent errors (I really was a good kid, just not very ambitious).
Sadly it seems like they dominated the later part of our relationship.
However, we did crochet a lot together. I think together we used up about as much yard as it takes to cover the moon a few times!
Going through the emotions on my way there, and helping my dad sorting a few things out, I started to feel the need to grab my hook and get going. Strangely enough, I can tell many of the models we made together, about 20 years ago, looking at the magazines I still have.
Alas, since there are still several weeks left in this year, I just found out that one of my Taekwondo instructors has passed away last week.
he always had advice if you needed it, he was also one of my Administrators on my own forum.
I seem to recall that he had heart trouble, but I am not sure. But it certainly as a shock, as he was 3 years younger than me.
