This was definitely the most intense episode yet. The whole attack seemed to come out of nowhere though. Amon's attacks had been escalating but I wasn't expecting him to all of the sudden lay siege to the city. I was thrilled to see the benders actually winning a few battles. Tenzin was amazing as were his children. It was good to finally see some dominate young benders again. The new team Avatar taking on the tanks was great, they seem to have gotten down fighting pretty well. You can easily see their improvement.
Lin getting her bending taken was absolutely heartbreaking. I thought that scene was done so well. I loved watching her fight so hard to protect Tenzin and his family even though you could tell how hard it is for her to see him with Pema. I really hope she is able to find some happiness in this sereis because even though she is tough as nails, she has an air of sadness to her.
I felt like team Avatar, including Korra weren't really too involved in this episode other than in the fighting scenes. I am glad that Asami finally called Mako out on how he is acting. At the beginning of the series I really thought I was going to like Mako, but he has really turned out to be a jerk. I realize he is probably confused, but he needs to discuss it with Asami. I'm just hoping that Asami doesn't turn in the jealous type and turn against them. She hasn't really been portrayed that way up to this point though.
Tenzin's new son is absolutely adorable. The whole storyline reminded me a lot of Hope being born after crossing the Serpent's Pass. It's sad that such a happy moment has to be marred by having to try to run from the equalists.
A few random notes:
Hiro looked very devious when he was discussing dreaming about this day with Amon. It made me think he might be planning some sort of coup once the takeover is complete.
I wonder if the Tarlok story is going to come up again, because I don't really like the whole explanation of "he is Yakone's son". Surely there is something else behind that. He played a pretty significant role up to this point to just have his bending taken and then never being heard from again.
I loved hearing Dante Basco's voice at the end. General Iroh? if I heard correctly. I wonder what the connection is.
So much lead up to the finale, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the conclusion to this battle. I'm sure it will be epic.

Glad most of the things I hoped for in this series came to fruition in this episode. Kids helped out in battle, Asami really owning those equalists. Tenzin using his airbending in more ways. Naga taking down the lieutenant, Mako reversing the electricity, white lotus made up of multiple benders. I wasn't expecting magnetism to be used but that was awesome as well.
I really hope that after this Mako gets dumped. And no that doesn't mean green lighting him to go for Korra. Hopefully it gives him a much needed kick and makes him a better character for next season.
Oh and WHEN IS KORRA GOING TO AIRBEND!? This is called book air she has to learn it in the finale but what would cause it to finally click?

Lin~! This can't be the end of her story, she's too awesome to fade into the background now. Get her an Equalist glove, she can still fight and strategize. ;_; She was amazing in this episode though. When her bending was taken away, her reaction shot really reminded me of when Julia got shot in Cowboy Bebop. That probably doesn't bode well. ;_; But I was really surprised at Amon's offer to her, I mean, what? I mean he would probably just turn on her after she offered up the info, but still, wow. The Airbender kids fighting was surprising as well, and they did really good! Kind of too good, considering how young they are and who they were going up against? Power of bending, I guess. And yeah, the new baby brother is super adorable. I hope the whole family will be able to find a safe place to hide, though. However I'm curious, even if they did all lose their bending, would it be possible for their future children to be benders, or would the Airbender gene/spiritual whatever literally end with them? Because if the latter is the case, that makes Amon WAY more scarier. Because then it isn't just one person losing their bending, it's ending their lineage. D: When Asami and Pema went to the kitchen, I thought, 'Oh good! Maybe they'll have a moment to bond or something, and give Asami more lines', but then Pema's face when she left made me remember that she helped instigate the makorra situation. So much for that. But good on Asami for confronting Mako about the kiss and everything else. I have to agree that I am disliking Mako more because of how he's handling this whole situation, but it's probably more because I just dislike it when people get strung along. But augh, jerky teenage behaviour augh. I know this was also reasoning used for some of the dumb things Zuko did, like lashing out at Iroh in early Book 3, but auugh, no excuses I still can't stand it. But speaking of, Dante Basco is finally heard! And sounds exactly like Zuko haha. So the new character is called General Iroh? Aww. I heard it as 'Milo' but having it as Iroh would be way sweeter. :3 So I wonder if he is one of Zuko's sons, or maybe grandson? He doesn't look too old but I can see a family resemblance. The United Forces thing is really interesting too, is this military solely for Republic City or some larger collective type of a thing? Because if it was just for the city, I'm surprised they wouldn't have a base nearby so they could more quickly see the destruction. But anyway, I hope there will be more explaining in the looks-to-be-amazing finale. And an hour long, aah! Can't wait can't wait. And yes, I hope Tarrlok is brought back as well, even if it's just something small like Tahno's appearance after the Pro-Bending match. Actually I hope Tahno comes back as well, and the no-longer-metalbending cops too, they were cute. And Lightning Bolt Zolt! I guess I just want to see all of the no-longer-benders come together and help fight back against Amon. I don't want them to permanently fade into the background, as if, because they can't bend they no longer matter. Because that is an awful awful message. This is their city too, and even though the United Forces are coming to help, they should be able to do something as well.

I wasn't expecting magnetism to be used but that was awesome as well. Yeah that was really neat, but I'm hoping that the police force will begin to see the danger with their uniforms. I know that as metalbenders it is good to have potential weaponry on your body, but it seems like it makes them easier to defeat, especially with magnets and electrocution. And I had forgotten about Mako redirecting lightning, but I'm so glad that particular skill was finally used against the equalists. I've been hoping that would come into play for a while now. General Iroh could probably be Zuko's grandson. He appeared to be mid thirties to me. That is probably too young for his son, but would be possible for a grandson. As far as the United Forces I think it is probably some kind of worldwide force. I would imagine that benders from the three nations are included and that they are more of a worldwide police force that deals with larger conflict and are trying to protect from another 100 year war. The way Tenzin acted about calling them though, made it seem like it was a big deal they were called in and almost like they had a good reputation for winning.

My love for Lin continues to rage with the fire of a thousand burning suns. This episode had a lot of really great things going for it. The battles were intense and Amon is as menacing as ever. Iroh is gorgeous but, although Dante is great and all, his voice coming out of Iroh 2.0 was kind of a plot twist for me. His face and that voice just do not seem to go together at all. But maybe that's just a personal preference. I'm a little disappointed with all the shipping drama - if Asami joins the equalists because of Mako being a douchecanoe I will RAGE I'm all for IrohxAsami haha
God I have so many feels I can't put it into words. I really am enjoying this show but I think the 12 episode limit has really hurt them in terms of character development. I just feel like despite the many great things about the show, there's just so many missed opportunities with it.

I wasn't aware that Dante Basco was going to be voicing Stephen Colbert.
And it's most likely Zuko's son who he named after his uncle.

man... Lin I just feel ridiculously sad for her. Honestly, I don't care how hokey and "for kids" it would be but if Korra was able to restore her bending I wouldn't complain at all. Air Bending kids were pretty awesome, makes sense they'd be able to crowd control really well. Heck maybe some of the equalist started to hesitate because the benders were so young.

Wait, so General Iroh sent a message back to republic city, whose leaders are now subdued (with one who went into hiding) and (the city) is now under control of Amon? That can't end well for the United Forces. Unless it was actually sent for Korra, but I don't see this as being a possibility as she's in hiding also (plus considering Tenzin sent the order anyway).
It was touching and sad to see Lin lose her bending. Though, Amon's simple response was indicative of some potential respect for her. Usually he mocks and demeans his victims, but I guess he acknowledged that she was tough and honorable, and unlike most of his more notable targets. Though, he probably would've taken it away and derided her character if she had spilled.
I don't see what taking the Island does for Amon other than making a statement? I mean, the White Lotus were really the only benders other than Tenzin's family, and they only stayed to protect Korra. The only other people there were nonbending acolytes, who are peaceful and should fall under Amon's protected bracket anyway.
Edit: Anyone notice that Iroh could be a potential love interest for Korra or Asami?

On TVTropes, the discussion mentioned Aang and Amon using two different pressure points (with the standard one) to debend people. I think Amon might just be locking someone's specific chakra, but possibly in a reversible way.

Me neither. I love the Equalists as antagonists. I'm indifferent to Amon, but having normal people being a match for benders is pretty dang awesome.

That can't end well for the United Forces. Unless it was actually sent for Korra, but I don't see this as being a possibility as she's in hiding also (plus considering Tenzin sent the order anyway). The message given to Iroh was from Korra, or so they said, and it was more updated than anything Tenzin could have sent. So apparently Korra has the ability to send/receive--telegrams?--whatever they are. I doubt it'll be a huge plot point. On LoK romance, I'm with Lin--cut the crap. Oh, Lin. She is to me what they wanted Korra to be. Strong, relateable female character. She carries herself admirably. And as for freaking fartbending, for heaven's sake. This is why I can't recommend Avatar to my friends! Because then they watch an episode and are too polite to say, "Thanks for convincing me to watch the children's cartoon with the supernatural farting. You just go ahead and watch that then." Arrrgh. Final point--that picture-of-the-Satos scene with Hiroshi and Amon foretold doom to me. One of these guys is gonna backstab the other. My bet--Amon is not super forgiving to Asami, and Hiroshi flips his--well, yes.

Completely agree about Iroh being Zuko and Mai's son. Maybe grandson. The voice is just throwing me off. Seeing Lin get her bending taken away, as heartbreaking as that was, has just firmed my faith that Korra will learn to restore bending. No way would they do that to Lin permanently! Also loved Pema's face as she left Mako and Asami in the kitchen alone. It is amazing how powerful the airbenders are in this show. Even the children!
