I thought that was clever and nice for Mike & Bryan to do for the new show. A nod to Mako, the man who voiced Uncle Iroh in the first series. For anyone that doesn't know, unfortunately he passed before he was done doing recording in the studio for the show. In the last episode he did voice-overs for, at the end the wrote "R.I.P. Mako." And now using the name for one of the new characters in Legend of Korra was a really good nod to him and his work on the original series. Did anyone else catch it?

I caught it. I remember hearing when mako passed away, i was really upset about it. When i heard that they used his name for a character, i noticed right away and it made me so happy that they did that.
