I think what I loved best in this episode was Lin's metal claws. TOTALLY INSANE.
One thing I'm actually bothered with is that metal benders are...kinda...useless? And inefficient too. I mean, metalbenders have to be adept (I'm think at least decent) Earthbenders, but they seem to eliminate the use of their earthbending apart from utilizing it as a jumping boost. Using metal wires obviously wont work on a mech, why not just put them off balance with a little bit of earthbending? :/ meh
Also, no one seems to be discussing this - What state is Republic City in now (or going to be in)?

Interesting to see that Lin and Tenzin were with each other that entire episode. And on the subject of Lin Bei Fong, first she goes Omega Red, then she goes X-23 and/or Ezio with the knives in her arms. She's just an entire armory with that armor. Was also neat to see Tenzin's remake of the air scooter. It was more like an air cycle!
And that statue in front of Cabbage Corp. was the cabbage merchant from The Last Airbender.

I have to say I was personally disappointed in Asami's characterization myself. She is introduced as a way to Deus Ex Machina the money problem introduced just before her introduction, turns out to be beautiful, rich, nice, and her main conflict was being a romantic interest for mako (and staying in the background for that short "arc").
Then this episode comes along and shows that not only does she have all those great qualities above, but she just happens to be tough, an excellent driver, extremely brave, AND whisks away even more problems for the guys by providing housing. Her biggest conflict and "flaw" is trusting her dad. How is the conflict resolved? Dad asks her to join the fight, she pretends to accept and knocks him out, then takes out a guy who looks like Amon's lieutenant quickly and easily like it was nothing thus removing her only flaw! (trusting her dad too much.)
It all felt very cliched, and she seems to be a mix of action girl, and the beautiful daughter of the mad scientist. I am very disappointed in whoever wrote her.
The rest of the episode (save for the usual pacing problem) was excellent though.

I liked the episode, but like others, didn't particularly feel suprised when Hiroshi was working for the Equalists. I honestly thought it was going to be more of a business move for him, no emotional feeling behind it, just greedy for money and fame.
Poor Cabbage Corp. Can't catch a break. Poor Tahno. Even if he is a louse and a cheat.
Asami is a bit of a cheese factor right now. If she really was a chi blocker, THAT would be cool.
I hope Lin redeems herself and shoves it in Tarlock's face. I like Lin.

Loved the episode. One question though..
Why does Lin wear shoes at all?
Has she been sensing the vibrations this entire time through the shoes and just needed a more direct contact to find the HUGE cave right underneath her feet? She could have sensed the equalists back in "and the winner is" and not gotten shocked.
It just doesn't make sense to not use that skill a lot more, especially when you're going on a raid or guarding after Amon said he would attack.

So many things are so awesome for this episode. And I for one am glad that Asami joined Korra and company. It makes sense that if they're gonna beat the Equalists her knowledge of her father's inventions would be a good asset to have on the team.
I have nothing more to add to this discussion other than as usual I can't wait for the next episode.

Well we probably can't do anything but guess at this point, but there could be a variety of reasons for her wearing shoes that range from the practical, to preference. She does live in a modernized city, wearing shoes could simply be so she doesn't step on broken glass. Or the shoes could simply be a part of her uniform she wears among polite society for appearances. Since she isn't blind and doesn't really need the vibration sight like toph did, its not like its necessarily, and heck it might even be sensory overload.

Did the footstep sound effects in this episode seem unnecessarily loud and conspicuous to anyone else besides me?

I wonder if the dude that killed Mrs Sato was the same dude that killed the boys parents?

I wonder if the dude that killed Mrs Sato was the same dude that killed the boys parents? OR MAYBE, Amon is actually a bender (fire or something else) and killed Mrs. Sato. Probably not though.

Asami looks like she joined the group. I dont realy like her that much yet but maybe ill grow to like her. I think its because she kinda stole Mako from Kora in a way. Its like zutara contriversy all over again.

Mr. Sato's betrayal was indeed predictable, I mean, who else could supply the Equalists with such advanced technology and financial support? The list was very very short, and turned out to be exactly who I thought it would be, though really, similar conclusion on Asami is how deep can a children's show really be? We must remember who the real target audience is, and deep and intricate character development isn't something the writers can do, especially since they are very limited to how many minutes they have to fit an expansive world and story into about 14 episodes.
I hope this short layoff goes by quickly and Mr. Basco's return breathes new life into the show, not that it needs it but it will be refreshing to hear an old beloved voice from the previous series.

The series is at least 26 episodes long, and even as a children's show, its darker themes represent a wider audience base, inclusive of younger avatar fans who are now in their late teens.

Horyo I agree with you about the older audience being included, but Korra was conceived as a short miniseries before Nickelodeon ordered another season. We have no idea if the original story was altered or not to accommodate the extra episodes, or if it will simply be a continuation after what they have already written.

I'm still not sold on Asami, she could be in on in it with her father and Amon, portray her as innocent, surprise her with the news her father works with Amon, make it appear she chose the good guys only to be the eyes and ears of Amon on the inside with the group..
The more I think about Amon's character the more I think Amon could be a bender himself. Working with Sato, you had the platnium walls in the underground factory, maybe Amon told him to build it that way. He probably knows everything about bending from experience..Maybe he's trying to get rid of them all so he can be the only one in the near future to rule the world..
