Awesome episode once again. Mako sneeze was the best thing out of the whole series. The groups already fighting mechs!? Scary to think what the final Amon vs. Korra showdown has in store for us.

"NO! Not my Cabbage Corp!" Pretty good episode...although Hiroshi seemed a bit too evil for me to really like as a villain. I'm fine with him working for Amon, but I saw him more as being extorted by the loan than all out hating benders and taking them on personally. Even if he was doing things "for his daughter's sake" it now makes very little sense why he would sponsor Mako and the freaking Avatar for the Championship. On that note, I really didn't like how easily Tenzin went down in this episode and in And the Winner Is. I get that he can't just solve all of their problems, but I would have preferred if he went down taking a hit for Korra or something instead of outright being defeated.

Maybe Hiroshi wanted to make sure that he was in good relations with the Avatar and her company in the public's eyes?

I get that he can't just solve all of their problems, but I would have preferred if he went down taking a hit for Korra or something instead of outright being defeated. Tenzin lasted the longest and deflected most of the advances from the mechas than Korra or Lin. It just goes to show that master benders struggle against technology. I really liked Asami in this, and I hope her martial arts training allows her to fight on par with benders and equalists alike, sort of like Suki. Did anyone also notice Mako not using lightning? Sure there wasn't much time, but I figure in a stressful environment, he'd srtuggle. This should how people once adapted to using bending as a fighting style have been able to weakly implement "advanced techniques" in battle, because they're not used to using it in battle. Generating lightning is probably easier in a factory than it is in an arena.

Overall, this was a good episode. Although I do feel that this sereis has been a little too predictable. I know Hiroshi being evil was suppose to come as a shock, but we've all been discussing that possibility since we first met him. However, I did like how it was all handled. Using an informant to set up the meeting was a pretty ingenious plan. The use of platinum was an interesting development. I still am bothered by how easily the benders are defeated though, this is one of the only complaints that I have with this series. Benders were able to at least stand a fighting chance against machinery in ALTA even without metalbending. I was glad we got to learn a little more about Asami, and while she is still not my favorite character, she is beginning to grow on me. It was good to see that even when faced with defying her father, she chose to do the right thing. I think she could make a good fourth member of the group, because she has proven not only her loyalty, but also her fighting abilities. I enjoyed getting to see the gang in a more causal setting, just swimming and enjoying themselves. They seem to all have a pretty good dynamic. Mako dunking Bolin in the pool, and Bolin and Pabu both enjoying a little pampering were just too cute. Korra seemed to be softening toward Asami by the end of the episode. I could see them becoming good friends. I think Asami could also be a valuable tool in learning some defense moves to use if any of them were chi blocked. I look forward to seeing how they all settle in at Air Temple island. I'm sure Tenzin's daughters will have plenty of questions. It was good that Mako and Bolin finally put their bending skills to the test to help Korra, I know I had said last episode that I was hoping they would do that soon. I wonder how Lin plans to take out the Equalist "outside of the law". However she does it, I just hope she is able to have some success because her pride has mostly likely taken a couple hits recently. I like that she has Toph's ability to "see" with her Earthbending. I loved the nod to ATLA with Cabbage Corp. And, if I'm not mistaken, that statue was of our beloved cabbage merchant. I'm sad that they are closing the Pro-Bending arena, I really enjoyed the matches. Hopefully, once the whole Equalist conflict is over, they will be able to reopen it. Republic city has much bigger problems at the moment though. All their plans to defeat the Equalists, or even to keep them at bay seem to be failing. Horyo: That is an interesting theory on the benders disadvantage. I suppose that learning to use bending to fight, is not nearly as important now there isn't a ongoing war. It would make sense that most benders would be less experienced in fighting than the non-benders who are training for such things. I would think that Lin and Tenzin would have pretty good fighting skill (which that seem to at least to a degree) since I would imagine their parents trained them to use their bending as a weapon.

I wonder how anyone will be able to overcome the purity of platinum? it does seem unlikey. But of coure no one thought that anyone would be able to bend metal either.

This was a fun episode. It is true that Hiroshi Sato working with Amon came as no surprise. However, I felt really bad for Asami, and I was kinda surprised that Asami did not know that her father was involved with the equalists.
One thing that has been bothering me about this series is the combination of regular 2d animation and cgi techniques. All the vehicles and the new mechs were animated in cgi, and I feel that this clashes with the 2d background. However, this is only a minor flaw, and I have seen the blending between 2d and cgi be much worse in other series.

I feel so bad for Asami, I was so sure that she knew something about the equalists only to find out that she had absolutely no idea, but he father was helping them behind her back....poor girl. Also poor Tahno, the poor guy looks freaking hashed over the loss of his bending.

I really hope to see her attempt this in a cool bad Equus asinus sequence throughout most of an episode if not the entire thing.

They did that in the first series, so I don't see why it's much of a complaint if you're already accustomed to it. Also to the general discussion, while it might have seemed apparent that Hiroshi was working with Amon, his personality switch was so... polar that it seemed pretty surprising to me.

Well, I for one am surprised by Hiroshi's sudden Face Heel Turn (Warning: If you value your time and sanity, do NOT click that link), not because it happened, but because of how soon it happened. And polarizing, much? I thought for sure he'd be out of it for a while, and then, only because he was forced to turn. But this is unexpected. People will do crazy things when they lose a loved one and to protect their children, though, so I guess the whole benevolent businessman and industrialist was just a facade. Good to see some characterization on Asami, and that she's not evil. I can't tell you how sick I am of nice, pretty girls turning out to be evil for whatever reason. It's just... overdone and way too predictable, so this is a nice turn of events. And nice introduction to her skills. I could see her easily becoming the fourth member of the new Team Avatar. And poor Tahno. I've already said once that even cheaters don't deserve to have their bending taken away, but that poor guy. I really feel sorry for him. And last thing I'm going to touch on, good work on Lin for learning how to use her bending to "see". I wonder, did Toph teach her that, or did she learn it on her own?

Great great ep.
On a few things folks posted
Technology vs Bending: some have said that the tech is taking down masters 'too easily' Actually that's to be expected since RC has a Hong Kong during the Boxers' Rebellion vibe. IE the introduction of the gun (ie the tech) quickly marginized the skill of the kung fu masters of the time. I still think that the tech + equalist only works in the enclosed and urban environment of the city until they invite this universe's real version of a gun. Out in the file with standing armies, I could see those mecha getting over turned by earthbenders quickly, same goes in the poles
Sato as a villain: I liked it, though it was predictable. The twist that she was killed by firebenders was interesting. While some might not find him sympathetic, I can. This is a man who's wife was murdered, maybe in front of his eyes, probably with FIRE. On of the most painful ways to die. Think about that. He might have saw his wife burn to death right in front of him and could do NOTHING. Yeah I could see ANYONE becoming full of hate when faced with that.
Bolin: perfect comedic timing as per norm
Mako: alright guy don't F this up. Treating Asumi badly (not that he would, but you never know with teenage drama) could easily push her back toward her father and create a spy in the uh Korra group thing... (a Korrawd if you will)
Lin/Tenzin : dang you guys are awesome. Also, OUT SIDE THE LAW means shes going to kill him, period. She's too much by the book character to suddenly turn into "F the Law, lets over throw everything, anarchy anarchy!" style antilaw/anarchist.
Asumi : I wouldn't think she's be a combat member of the Korrawd. Sure we haven't see enough of her skill and her two take downs were pretty much due to surprise. That being said Sokka was kind of a joke to until he met his master. What kind of crazy thing would it be if Asumi "inherited" Sokka's black sword.
