@para, I felt the same way pre-Toph too. Before we had met Toph, I though the addition was going to ruin the dynamic entirely, but once she was on the team, I couldn't imagine it without her. If Asami is going to join the team and not just be a reoccurring character, then I'm sure Bryke has carefully planned out the dynamic so that it will work. The timeframe is short, but if they can develop the other characters in it as they have so far, then Asami will most likely get some time as well. I have to agree though that she does seem a bit suspicious. I've only seen the screenshots in the other thread, but she's so Moé! I can't even look at her eyes for more than a second, I'm so blinded by the sparkles. Actually kind of reminds me of Emolga from the Pokemon anime (yeah, I'm mentioning that), where's she's all sparkle-sparkle and then when you're not looking steals all the apples. I'm guessing this isn't the episode where Amon invades the Pro-bending tournament, so if Asami is with the Equalists, then maybe she uses being friends with the Fire Ferrets as a back-way in for Amon and his team to sneak in.

I don't trust Asami. She could have a plan. Maybe an evil goal. And I don't think, that she really fell in love with Mako.

Wait where was it ever mentioned that Asami has fallen in love with Mako? For all we know she is simply having a fangirl crush over a pro bender, or heck that she hasn't even left the stage of attraction.
She is still an unknown quantity at this point.

She certainly seems to be a capable and interesting character. Really beautiful and smart, I wonder if she'll join with Korra's gang later and be the 4th wheel that everyone wanted to see?

Does anyone else think that Asami has a bit of a resemblance to Jun?

Looks wise? Eh, only that they both have long hair, and wear more makeup than any other main character.

I guess I'm just looking for connections between this series and the last. I'd love for all of the main characters to be related to characters, even ones with small roles, from ATLA.

Does anyone else think that Asami has a bit of a resemblance to Jun? That's totally what I thought the first time I saw her. I guess since Mako is Zuko without the angst, Asami would be Jun brought up in a rich family! (maybe bryke wanted to put Zuko x Jun in the original series but it wasn't convenient? Haha would be quite a couple)

(maybe bryke wanted to put Zuko x Jun in the original series but it wasn't convenient? Haha would be quite a couple) I was a Zuko/Jun shipper! I always thought that they complimented each other really well. Mako and Asami don't have that same live wire energy together... yet. ;D

Although I have to admit that I saw Mako as nothing but a Zuko expy at first... He really has removed himself from Zuko in my eyes with the latest episodes. Not quite sure when that happened though.

Aside from the obvious fleshing out of her character that she needs and will no doubt get over the course of the series as the story progresses, I would just like to say Seychelle Gabriel did an excellent job with Asami. Looking forward to more from her. ;D

There is definitely something fishy about Asami, she really came out of no where and she just seems too good to be true (sorry Mako) It's just kinda fishy that she showed up just in time, and was like "oh yeah no worries my dad will fork up all the money you need no problem" (not in those words but still) And when the equalists attacked the Arena Asami and her father seemed to just disappear from the story line all together. I don't know if it was just because the creators didn't have a spot to bring them back in or that they want us to be suspicious.

So yeah about Asumi, she was just a girl that didn't know the bigger picture.

Which disappointed me greatly. Well not her innocence, but how they wasted her character.

Wasted? Not quite yet, her trials (should they go this route) start now. She was a rich famous girl, now she's daughter to the man that allowed the equalist to take power, her last name will now be a stigma. Not to mention she's pennyless. Sure they could just wrap it all up by allowing her to live off the air nomads, but that would be boring.
She's probably very emotionally broken right now, will she be able to repair her family's name? Does she even care about that? What about her relationship with Mako, is she expecting them to get married and have him take care of her? etc
Now if they do nothing with her story post this event, then yes I completely agree she'll be a waste of a character.
