Nick.com has just released Part I of a new interactive game entitled "Welcome to Republic City." The game is essentially a virtual tour of Republic City wherein you can collect information on the people, locations, objects, and creatures of The Legend of Korra. The art is beautiful and bits of the show's music play in the background. We get some interesting glimpses into the specifics of past Avatars' lives and also a few hints at the fate of the Gaang. There's also an intriguing preview regarding the politics of the United Republic Council, the governing body of Republic City. Apart from a few grammar mistakes and some funkiness with the ages of characters, I think this is a beautiful way to introduce the series! Part II is "coming soon." Here's the link, though I'm not sure if it will work for everyone: www.nick.com/games/legend-of-korra-welcome-to-republic-city.html?xid=5KOR_LOKTu

I loved this! I wonder when they'll let you unlock the next part though >.> And lol, yeah, Tenzin is a bit old for Pema, but meh, it happens in real life and works out, so it isn't the end of the world. I wanted to cry when Katara's description talks about how she misses Aang "terribly" though ='(. I'm also curious as to what the deal with Jinora and the "interest in boys" is haha. She's a little young for a boyfriend, but her having a crush or something would be adorable ;D But yeah, I thought it was great to finally get to know exactly how old everyone was and exactly what happened in the construction of Republic City. It'll definitely tide me over to the third episode!

Just checked it out today. It was a nice way to start my Saturday morning. That soundtrack was EPIC!
Edit: I'm glad to find that I was right about the Air Acolytes serving Tenzin and his family are non-benders. I think it's also pretty interesting that Tenzin's children as yet do not have the tattoo's of full-fledged Air Monks. Jinora is 10 and is tattoo-less while Aang was 12 and was already inked. I understand there might be some discretion towards giving tattoo's to children that young on a kid's cartoon show but if there is I wonder what in-story reason they have for it. At what age are Airbender children given their tattoo's and what must they do to earn them?
And I was right about URC being led by a ruling council of all-bender's. Tarrlok seems especially interesting as a more than possible villain of the series. At least we know that aside from the representatives of the other 4 nations (Northern and Southern Water Tribe, Fire Nation and Earth Kingdoms) we know that Tenzin and Chief Lin Bei Fong are also council members.
I wonder what the dynamic of the council will be like and whether or not it might give us a clue as to why Amon and the Equalists want to depose the bending-ruling class so badly.

Yeah, but Aang was one of the youngest air nomads to master the element, so he was an exception. I think mid-teens is the average age for bending mastery, avatars and Tophs and such are kind of protegees, so I think it makes sense that Jinora doesn't have her tattoos yet. Yeah, I can see Tarrlok being sorta like the Boss Tweed of Republic City :/. Which is interesting, because in ATLA all the waterbenders were good guys so this should be a nice change of pace. If that's true, then I would definitely guess him to be one of the "sources" of the equalists' anger.

Oh wow, they really put a lot of effort into that game, didn't they. It's really nice, thank you for linking it! I love all the info and art, and the character/scene animations were great too. Katara is totally making me cry again though, but I like her outfit, it's nice.
On the over-map to the far right, I think it was some Station location, it looks like there's a statue of someone in front of it, but I can't tell who it is. It looks like their hand is orange so I thought maybe it's of Zuko firebending, but the person looks kind of bald, so I'm not sure.
The city council is interesting too, and I agree Tarrlok has kind of a weird vibe going on. The history books are cool though, it looks like they're referencing the plots to The Promise graphic novels. I also liked the bit in Jinora's bio of learning historical fiction, including stories of when Tenzin went on adventures with Aang (aww<3), hopefully that will be a venue to hear more stories too.
Regarding Aang's tattoos, I think he got them so early in part because he invented a new Airbending technique, the air scooter? But yeah, it probably depends on when they finish mastering the element.

I wish that were true so we can get a glimpse of Aang's adventures when he grew up and what sort of fully-realized Avatar he was like. Regarding Aang's tattoos, I think he got them so early in part because he invented a new Airbending technique, the air scooter? But yeah, it probably depends on when they finish mastering the element. That's interesting if that's true because if you can recall Aang's classmates from his childhood days you'll see they all had tattoo's and they were all presumably the same age despite any certainty that none of them may have invented the airscooter. Does that mean that Air Nomad children are expected be master Airbenders, at least by the age of 12? Considering that they live a monastic way of life and can all bend does it necessarily follow that Airbender's can bend not only at an early age but also begin to master their abilities from an earlier age than benders from other nations? And consequently do they become practically masters at very young ages like Shaolin monks who train since birth/infancy? The answers to these question make me love the customary respect and level of detail that we've come to expect from Bryan and Mike. Simply awesome. ;D

Actually, Aang was the only one of the young monks we saw in "The Storm" to have his tattoos, and it's been explained that an Airbender receives his tattoos when he masters the element. Aang, as the Avatar, was able to master air at the young age of 12. Whether or not the invention of a new move is required to pass some kind of mastery examination would be cool to know, though. Here's a picture of one of the kids - I can't find an image of them all together, but this takes place after Aang discovers he's the Avatar. You can see Aang, tattooed, walking away in the background.

Very interesting, thanks for providing the link. This is a neat way to keep up with all the new locations and characters that we are meeting, and get a little more background information on them. I particularly like that there was an explanation for the reappearance of the sky bisons.
I hope that they continue to develop Tenzin's children in the show, I think they could have some intersting scenes. I also hope that we get to hear a little bit about Aang as a father from Tenzin, and of course meet the other children.
I agree that Aang was most likely advanced and mastered Airbending at an early age, so it's not really weird that Jinora has yet to receive her tattoos. It would be really interesting if they addressed that in the show though. I would say that a student's master just decides when they have reached that level of mastery.
