In the second episode of Book 1: Air, we saw more of Korra and Tenzin and got our introduction to the Fire Ferrets!
I love the character development we're getting for Tenzin especially, and the dynamic with the White Lotus is interesting - they seem to have become more dogmatic and militant since the original series.
I was skeptical about Pro-Bending when we first heard of it months ago, but it's come together really nicely. What do you think of this episode, and where do you think the show will go from here?

I thought Meelo was adorable lol. And Tenzin reminded me a little bit of Mufasa from Lion King ("You deliberately disobeyed me!"), but I love him. I'm thinking the romance will definitely be between Korra and Mako, considering how the episode ended. And as much as I love Kataang, I'm thinking this would (assuming that there is something between Korra and Mako in the first place) be more of a Zutara-esque romance, since Mako is definitely more of a Zuko than an Aang (whereas Bolin reminded me a lot of Aang). I know it's too soon to assume any of that, but it's still so much fun to speculate about shipping I'm also really loving the music!

I was also a little skeptical about Pro-bending, but I really found myself enjoying it. I think it's a great concept. Also I think it a good way to bring at least three of the elements together. It shows how much more powerful the elements are when combined. I also really like Bolin and Mako. I think it will be interesting how their relationships with Korra play out.
I agree, the White Lotus is much less secretive now, which does make sense because Republic City does not belong to one nation just as they don't. So it does stand to reason that they wouldn't need to be secretive, but I will sort of miss the mystery of the White Lotus society.
I liked that Tenzin started becoming a little warmer with Korra in this episode. I think he is having to get use to training someone with a personality like Korra's. I can see why Korra has such trouble with Airbending based on her personality. I look forward to seeing her work her way through her struggles with the element.

BOLIN'S TOTALLY GONNA GET FRIENDZONED BY KORRA I CAN ALREADY SEE IT
Other than that, pro-bending really got me excited (I was skeptical about the whole bending sport/MMA bending thing)
(anyone else thinks the probending area looks Inidan-inspired?)

Lol, I kinda see it too but I sorta hope he doesn't develop any interest in her (like that'll happen) just so I don't have to see him get heartbroken . I can already tell he's gonna be one of my favs and I'd hate to see him sad. Now it just sucks that we have to wait a whole month+4 days for epi 3 T_T

Well I got a feeling there'll be a love triangle thing that eventually develops (seeing as the series is going for a slightly more mature theme).
I love how Tenzin is a mentor figure to Korra. We lacked that for Aang, I guess Roku counts but he wasn't a permanent fixture. I felt that the 2 episodes really showcased the changing of theme from a bunch of kids on an adventure to a more "young adult" theme. With adult teachers and villains as well as realistic figure behaviours. pretty brilliant!

^Yeah, I can see some conflict developing between Mako and Bolin over Korra. I would say that Mako will probably keep his feelings to himself and Bolin will be more open about them. Eventually, I would imagine Mako would get tired of Bolin flirting or what not and express his feelings for Korra.

DAT HALF MOON. Seriously, ATLA always had a full or crescent moon...often both on the same night (looking at you, Winter Solstice!) so it's a nice change to see a different phase for once. Anyway, I really liked Tenzin's development and interaction with his kids. "I will make no such promise" had me rolling! Not nearly enough Naga in this episode though hope she doesn't get sidelined too much as the series goes on! So I'm guessing the next episode will be more focused on the city...perhaps Tenzin will go in and try to make a deal with the Equalizers? We know that they are going to crash the Pro Bending tournament, but I figure we'll see a little more of them before that. Can't wait till April!

I loved the episode. Tenzin's kids are hilarious!! My only complaint is with the way they capture the pro-bending. I don't like that it captures the beginning and ending of each move and the facial expressions of the characters; this is a lot more like traditional anime, but I really enjoyed the way they captured bending in the old series with more zoomed out views.

I really liked how this episode set up Pro-bending, and the rules are easy to pick up on without it feeling cumbersome. The three zones are similar to the Quickstrike ATLA card game -- I wonder if that was intentional or coincidence? I know Bryan made a video about it, but I never got around to watching it. :X The modern style of bending is interesting too; I couldn't really understand the difference in previous interviews, but when Bolin did the example with the earthbending stance it all clicked. I think it's rather interesting that the arguments for/against it also coincide with the real-life martial arts situation. I love that they present both sides of it. I'm liking the brothers as well, and Bolin was much better than what I was expecting. I'm guessing we'll meet Pabu in episode 3? But yeah, definitely seeing the vibes for Korra/Mako, and agreeing with the probable triangle. I'm staying off any ships for now, but I gotta say I'm looking forward to seeing how it all develops. xD I was kind of expecting the Amon ambush to happen in this episode, so I'm a little sad it wasn't, but it's also better that way -- with everything else they did, it would have been super rushed. If it happens in episode 3, then it'll put it in line with The Southern Air Temple where things get more interesting. Although Murphy's Law is compelling me to think it'll be another episode or two down the line. But hopefully not, the clips of it look super exciting. But anyway, loving Amon's voice acting, his tone is perfectly subtle and threatening. One small error I noticed though, that I wonder if they will fix before the episodes air on tv -- right before Korra, Mako, and Bolin play in the Pro-bending match, there's a close-up on Mako when he says 'this girl is crazy' and his eyes are green like Bolin's. I was kinda surprised. OH! Also, I am totally impressed with how the episodes played on KorraNation.com -- I was expecting it to play slower than the Zora King, but it never paused to buffer, not even once. Very impressed. paku - I noticed that too with the face-shot Pro-bending frames, it was weird how they slowed it down. My guess is they were still trying to figure out how to storyboard it at the time of making these episodes, and hopefully they'll have the presentation ironed out better in later episodes.

I get what you mean, but well, probably cos probending is sort of like MMA, with quick punches and kicks, nothing fancy like "traditional" martial art bending. Maybe the screenplay writer didn't see a need to focus on the motion itself (compared to the elaborate bending movements from the original series) Also, maybe it's just me...but does anyone else wonder when the probenders "tire out" (compared to the first series where fights could go on for pretty long)? is it just to quicken the pace of the show or maybe it's cos MMA-style bending is more tiresome than tradiontal bending (more physically draining than spiritual)? I think the latter.

For the pro-benders tiring out, it made me think of the ATLA games where you have a limited "Chi" bar and so you can only do a number of attacks before you run out. But I'm sure it's being mindful of its time-frame within the episode as well, since this isn't like Dragonball/Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh where the battles can just continue for multiple episodes. (Thank God.) But also, I think it makes the matches a bit more compelling and strategical for it to be limited. I don't know much about sports stamina, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's influenced by that too.

I would still contend that this is inconsistent with some of the more ridiculous and long fights from the original series. EG In Bato of the Water Tribe when Zuko fights Aaang. They're jumping all over buildings and stuff and neither of them gets too worn out to bend despite the fatigue they show. It always appeared to me that "sports stamina" had minimal bearing on "bending stamina/chi" (if this even exists in the show). Counterexample?

Well, the pro benders aren't fighting because they have to for their lives. If they were battling each other for real, they may very well continue after they got knocked off the back and find a way to retaliate, but they don't because once you're off you're out for the round so we don't really get to see how much energy they have left after that. That's what I'm thinking anyways. I love Tenzin's fam lol. Meelo is adorable. Also, does anyone think there's a chance they'll air both the first episodes together on the 14th like they did online? Or do you think we'll have to wait till April 28th for the third?
