I think there was a rumor that James Cameron bought the rights to the trademark of "Avatar" as a title? But I think that was unconfirmed and now clearly false

I think it just meant they didn't know when in 2012 they were releasing yet as people keep wondering if its spring or fall of 2012. But that's how I see it. I mean don't they have 26 of the episodes already produced I don't see how much complications could delay it to another year .___. I don't know what other delays they could be dealing with but it could have something to do with the recent leaks or it could involve any number of things. Your guess is as good as mine. And last we heard it was only the first 12 episodes that I think they mentioned were good to air. It was the additional 14 ordered by Nick earlier this year that they had to go back to the studio and do. Did anyone else notice how the opening called the series "Avatar: The Legend of Korra" as opposed to "The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra" like they have been previously. Maybe they were able to get that monkey known as James Cameron of their backs. Let's hope so. Because if any legalese issue still lingers from that then it might be one of the things that's causing the delay. I sincerely hope not though.

Are there any other big Nickelodeon releases coming out that could be conflicting with a Korra release? Something SpongeBob related maybe? Back at SDCC, Bryke compared the show to an airplane ready to take off, it was just waiting for its turn on the tarmac. Aside from other conflicts, it might be possible that Nick is delaying it so the attention won't be split between other shows. ....Or they're saving it so they can release everything at once and have a ratings bonanza. Anyway, for that article bit that mentioned Avatar Wiki, here is the link to their discussion page (link) but the only (vague) bit of info is: "Except that the addition of the second season did not postpone the air date. I promise. There are other network factors that are playing the role of "delayer." It has nothing to do with the pick-up." -~Staff member on the air date of LoK Which was posted months before the leaks happened. I really hope "Avatar" stays in the title though, the other choice was just ridiculous. Especially since they would need to change it for the international releases anyway because of the word problem. Honestly if they were legally unable to use Avatar for a while, just leaving it at Legend of Korra would have sounded better than tacking 'The Last Airbender' in front of it, even if it would remove the serialized aspect of it.

Sounds like corporate hijinks, and I don't doubt that it is. Also who hopes that "rufftoon" will be back on staff? She was fabulous as a storyboard artists and I hope she is back on "Team Avatar"

That's like trademarking the word 'king' or 'god'. And Rufftoon works for Dreamworks animation now...

@ Musogato: That's positive news. Let's hope whatever shenanigans they're dealing with right now doesn't wind up pushing back the release date anymore.
@ Nandireya: Anything can be trademarked unfortunately. And James Cameron is notoriously anal about whatever he considers his "properties".

James Cameron had dibs and an incomparably better movie so Ive no issue there. To avoid the linkage to that Nightmare, Id be much happier with just "The Legend of Korra".

You can copyright the DNA for cancer and other diseases, or even other people these days. Someone in Austria even copyrighted the wheel. With a good lawyer, James Cameron can copyright words.

OH. MY. GOSH! When news arose that the opening credits and first episode had been leaked I went on a mad dash to find them hahaha and to say the least. AMAZING! I am so incredibly stoked to have some more Avatar goodness in my life. And I'm happy that we get to see at least one of the old characters (even if Katara is ancient) I just want this show to be released sooner rather then later because I am all hyped up and ready to delve back into the Avatar world. Looks fantastic, so stoked.
Yay!=D
