Does anyone know who voiced Long Feng? Was it Dameon Clarke? Nope. It was Clancy Brown. I recognized his voice before I saw the credits. He is awesome and very good in villain roles (he was Lex Luthor in the Superman/Justice League cartoons).

I think the show is especially trying to show parallels between different characters, just to show that no one is the "good guy" or no one is the "bad guy." From the viewer's perspective, Long Feng is being controlling and ridiculous. Ozai is violent and cruel. We're kind of seeing them both as "bad guys," but not exactly. It's too indefinite.
It reminds me of the book The Once and Future King. Arthur, now a youg king, is trying to settle disputes by conquering other peoples. He thinks he has a better way of life than the people he is conquering. Long Feng thinks he has a better way for the people of Ba Sing Se to live, and he uses force and brainwashing to acheive his "better way of life." Ozai, even, thinks he has a way of life for his nation that he wants to attain through brute military and industrial force.
And that's why this show blows me away.

Gah, I loved this episode! So creepy, a bit Orwellian. I loved the end, switching back and forth between Long Feng and Jet. Brilliant.

Only military and some government officals would recognize Iroh as the Dragon of the West considering the normal citizens where probalby keep in the dark during his assualt as well.
easy plot device there. some officers love Iroh's tea and want to bring one of their generals theres to taste it. They get there and the General goes nuts because he KNOWS Iroh as the Dragon of the West, major bending combat ensues

Hey, so I havent read the whole post, so forgive me if this has allready been mentioned. (I did not want to read 22 pages. GAHHHH!) Did any of you notice a political message? I personally think it was making a statement about the war in Iraq. It almost seemed to be saying war was important and you should not hide outside problems from the masses. Maybe it was supporting the war in Iraq. This might be a little far fetched, and maybe I am wrong. What do you think?

Okay. Here's goes nothin'. 1. That whole "bear" conversation was pretty funny. Still, nice to know there's at least ONE normal animal in this world. *Armadillo-bear? Bet that looks cool.* 2. This whole episode freaked me out. First, I got the jitters, then it grew into the willies, and now I've got the HEEBIE-JEEBIES! 3. Long Feng, HA! To think his name name means DRAGON! There's not one ounce of nobility or honor in his veins. 4. Y'know, even in a city this big, Appa should be easy to spot. I mean, where do you hide a 10-ton, snow-white bison with six legs, a beaver tail, and a giant arrow on his head? He should stick out like a sore thumb.

If there is any connection meant, I think the point would be against the handling of the war by the media, how many attrocities of the war are hidden and sometimes forgotten. But neither side, for or against the Iraq war, is trying to hide the war itself, so I don't think it applies at all. I do see connections in other episodes, though. Such as Jet's "Freedom Fighters" being willing to kill innocent people to take down the bad guys who are in charge of them. But I'm getting way off-topic. I think the most obvious political statement in the episode was about society's treatment of the poor. I think it's interesting that Avatar is touching on the issue of poverty.

I hope the next episode will be soon...This one was soooooo great!!! The ending with Jet being brainwashed reminded me so much of how I imagined the brain-washing in 1984!!! This was probably the deepest Avatar yet...I got the same kind of feeling about the episode with the war in Iraq thing, but not that they were supporting it just that they were playing off of how the war is portrayed in our society. All the political leaders have been going "America is the last free place on Earth and we must protect it," which was exactly what Leng Fe (sp) said. It was, I'll say it again, the deepest Avatar yet.

I'm not sure if it's the deepest, but it's definitely the creepiest. The part with the spinning lamp made me shudder. And I love the 1984-ness of it.

If anything, this episode just was "1984--Avatar style". I trust the Avatar creators to rise about shoving petty politics into their show, anyway. Anyway, creepy, creeeeeeeeeeepy episode...I'm getting serious "1984" vibes. And "Matrix" vibes from Jet and Zuko's fight. XD The whole brainwashing scene with Jet though reminded me of one thing: "THERE ARE... FOUR...LIGHTS!!!!" Ha ha. XD I love TNG.
