I have not looked at any of the footage, I have been warned it is graphic and heart breaking.
My thoughts and prayers to the people of Japan (and the rest of the Pacific, I heard the Tsunamis were big)

Yes, everyone, please keep Japan in your thoughts.
If you want to donate money to help:
Text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to aid the victims. I'm sure there are other ways as well.

Good idea!
Just make sure the charity you are giving your money to is acredited and a 501c (in the states) and has a good reputation. Places like guidestar can help you find a good wone that doesn't steal your money, since sadly, while catastrophies like this not only bring the best out in people, but also the very worst.

So many people irrationally freaking out about nuclear power, due to to the complete media debacle and fear mongering, is going to lead to the end of nuclear power for decades. And that honestly makes me cry. There are FAR more pressing issues due to this earthquake, aside from even the obvious death toll of thousands, than a dang nuclear reactor that really isn't doing much damage. Look at this for example, These scenes are taking place at oil/coal/and chemical plants ALL ACROSS JAPAN. These things are causing IRREPARABLE DAMAGE ON A CRAZY SCALe. But do you see the media talking about it? No, all you hear about are "OMG ATOMZ!! HIDE YOUR CHILDREN." Keep things in perspective. One of the top 5 STRONGEST earthquakes ever recorded in history hit Japan and only a single power plant is experiencing problems. And it is a power plant that is 40 years old and due to start shutting down within a year. All things considered that's pretty dang good. But you have f**king idiots in middle america rushing the drug stores buying up all the iodine because of irrational misunderstanding of nuclear power.

True. The fires they can see (the chemical compounds not so much) but ZOMG radiation.
The numbers of radiation are high, but the scale is so small. I think that confuses people. Not to mention the fear mongers... Radiation has been a popular theme to freak people out since the inception of the A-Bomb.
an 8.9 is insane to consider it. I mean, the numbers on the scale go linear, but the actual power isn't...
(did I mention it's good to see you around, regardless of the circumstance?)

In general Japan is a mess right now, they were first hit with twin disasters, now they are dealing with the nuclear power plant problems. I don't think it's going to progress into a world pandemic or anything of that sort, but it needs to be fixed regardless along with the other problems Japan is facing.

I dont think its fair to say there has been an over-reaction of how serious the situation at the Nuclear plant when you have Yukiya Amano, the head of the U.N.’s International Atomic Energy Agency saying “This is not something that just Japan should deal with, and people of the entire world should cooperate with Japan and the people in the disaster areas.”,. The fact is, things can deteriorate extremely rapidly and you could have a Chernorbyl event within a matter of hours. Id rather that people were overly concerned now rather than when it becomes too late to do anything. The lack of sufficient specific information released also adds to the worry that things could be worse than the Japanese authorities are letting on.

This is in NO WAY AT ALL WHATSOEVER SHUT UP like Chernobyl AT ALL. It CANNOT BECOME LIKE IT. Sorry about the caps but GET IT THROUGH YOUR GOD DA.MN HEADS. **** the media for doing this. This situation is so blown out of proportion it is crazy. Go actually read about Chernobyl and the situation around it before you start comparing every nuclear incident to it. Chernobyl was something that could, literally on a physical level, never happen again.
