Back in December, we discovered that Dark Horse Comics would release an Avatar title for Free Comic Book Day in May. We had no idea what the comic would be about, but the speculation is over. Dark Horse and Nickelodeon are releasing a 240 page collection of out of print and never seen Nickelodeon Magazine comics. Then in 2012, they will begin to release original CANON comics (graphic novels) to continue the story where the series left off!! The possibilities are endless! I want to see more about The Freedom Fighters, and show us Ursa! For more information www.wired.com/geekdad/2011/02/avatar-the-last-airbender-from-dark-horse-and-nickelodeon/---------- Information on the second all-new graphic novel, The Promise: Part Two, can be found over here in this post.

Haha, beat me to it! xD But yes, OMG this is so exciting! Free Comic Book Day is on May 7, 2011, and two (previously unpublished) Avatar comics will be released then: Relics and Dirty is Only Skin Deep. It will also be packaged with a Star Wars: The Clone Wars flip-book comic, and is (only?) available at your local comic book shop. The release date for the 240-page comic collection has yet to be announced, and the early 2012 release for the post season-3 finale continuation comics is just, omg. Too amazing for words. <3

Canon comics set after the series? My feelings are...mixed (and those who know mel no doubt know why). 240 page compilation sounds awesome though.

Your Avatar title might impress some people, but not me.

Sounds good. It all depends on what the content is. I liked how they explained how Mai and Zuko got back together..... but that was simple fun. I was hardly a complex idea or plot. 240 pages is nice, but comics take many panels to say very little. Compared to a novel, where 240 pages could easily mean a few episodes worth of content. (Sorry for the pessimism.)
On the plus side, you can't go wrong with pics featuring some good old shipping! (Adult Kataang FTW!) As with Avatar_Mom, (and probably almost every other Avatar fan) I would live the return of Ursa.

I'm so beyond excited!! This news is amazing! I was hoping that they would do something with the Gaang, and that hopefully they would answer some of the questions I still had about Avatar. I can't wait to see what these comics have in store for us Avatar lovers. Thank you so much for posting this information. I'm so happy!!! =D

If this is a success; who knows! Maybe they will release a set about Iroh's backstory!

A preview for Relics, one of the comics available for the upcoming Free Comic Book Day has gone online! You can read it here. (btw, it uses Flash.) The comic takes place before the Gaang reached the Northern Water Tribe in Book 1, and there's a special guest. =3

I'm hoping they have one with Toph going back to her family. I REALLY want to see how that turns out.

This is exactly what I was hoping for. As Lady Juse said, we need closure on the series. I so wish this was coming out tomorrow.

Potentially worth mentioning here.... In the Wall Street Journal interview with Mike and Bryan yesterday ( link), this was brought up: WSJ: Will we find out what happened to Zuko’s mom? DiMartino: That question will be answered in some way, but not necessarily in the show. That’s all I’ll say.So whether it's in the comics or the graphic novels, it looks like we will be getting our answer! =3

It's listed in the latest Previews...release date 13th July...
This volume collects the long out-of-print, fan-favourite comics previously published in Nickelodeon Magazine and with the Airbender DVDs plus over seventy brand new comic pages. That's twenty-six stories set in Airbender continuity, by a host of top-notch talent, many of whom worked on the original animated series!
